Key Features
- Four-Bay Hub
- 2 x Thunderbolt 2 Ports
- 1 x USB 3.0 Port
The Professional Workflow HR2 4-Bay Thunderbolt 2/USB 3.0 Hub from Lexar is a 4-bay hub that supports Lexar's Professional Workflow line of USB 3.0 storage drives and Thunderbolt 2/USB 3.0 card readers. You can connect this hub using either Thunderbolt 2 or USB 3.0. You can also add up to four flash-based storage drives to this hub and store transferred files. Even if you connect it to the computer with Thunderbolt 2, the drives and readers will still operate at USB 3.0 speed. However, because Thunderbolt 2 supports a faster overall speed, you can use all four devices in the bay at the same time, without slowing down. The hub is also backwards compatible with Thunderbolt and USB 2.0 (at slower speeds), while using the same cables and connectors.

question
Can you use the lexar thunderbolt card readers in this? It doesn't look like it, but its a pity if you couldn't. Can you only use leader card readers that use usb3..
You can only use the readers that are made specifically for the Hub.

question
does power supply supports 220v?
Yes, OK for 100-240v. But you may need your own power cord to go between the power supply and the power point. Std 3 pin US cord supplied.

question
If i buy the HR2 and four of the Professional Workflow SR2 (SDHC/SDXC UHS-II USB 3.0) readers, will the transfer speeds be Thunderbolt when the readers are installed in the bay or will the bay operate as USB 3.0? Thank you.
USB 3.0 speed is up to 480 mb per sec. If you use SD cards, the fastest speed is 30 mb per sec. If you use XQD cards, the fastest speed is 400 mb per sec. Both are less than the USB speed, so the card sets the transfer rate. The only reason to use Thunderbolt over USB 3.0 is if your Mac doesn't have USB 3.0.

question
Is there a difference between using the card readers in the hub with a thunderbolt connection vs the cheaper card readers with a USB 3.0 connection?
Transfer speed of a single card should not be affected by USB3 vs Thunderbolt. But load up several cards and the Thunderbolt through put should be significantly faster. I'm trying to decide on the bang for the buck of this unit myself. I have 6 Thunderbolt connections in my 2013 Mac Pro so it would be nice to make use of more of them instead of my USB3 ports. I currently have the 2 slot (1 SD and 1 CF) Lexar USB3 reader and I'm looking at this as a replacement that can multi task better. But the price is pretty steep when you add an SD reader and 2 CF readers. And without using multiple cards at once you won't see any benefits over the USB3 reader at all.

question
Does anyone know what the DC power requirements are for this device? Eg. 12V 3A?
Hi - not sure why you need to use DC power, but 12v AC adaptor power should be 7.63 volts for DC ( formula ac=dc/0.636). But there are many things that play into conversion from ac to dc. To specifically find exact voltage - this might help - Ohm's law is V=I*R, Whatt's law is W=V*I, where V=voltage, I=current, R=resistance, W=wattage. My suggestion - Contact the manufractrer for best answer. Hope this helps.

question
Does this unit come with a thunderbolt cable in the box? Or does that need to be purchased separately?
Hi there, from memory it came with one - but I could be wrong... sorry. Its really a fantastic card reader and makes life so much easier when offloading multiple cards!

question
Want to store my wife and my images when traveling. We often shoot close to a TB on a long trip. Several questions...1. If I place one SD card readers and three 512 GB Drives in an HD2 hub, can I determine which drive a particular card reading session will go to? Or does it fill up one drive and only then go to another drive?2. If I want to keep my images and my wife's completely separate, can I use two card readers and two drives and have one reader go to one drive and the other reader to the second drive?3. Does the hub store from the cards to the drive without having a computer involved? 4. I assume that when I get home, I can load to my computer directly from the drive on the hub as I would with any other external drive, seeing my files in a Window so that I can direct the files where I want on my computer.5. Am I correct in that the drives and the card readers can be used separately just like any card reader or external drive? Thanks in advance
The Lexar Professional Workflow HR2 4-Bay is essentially a hub. You need to attach it to a computer and you can upload the images from your cards in to the computers hard-drive or the storage drives in the hub and you can pick what drive you want to do that to. But again it is manual and the computer is the interface.
