Flolight CycLight overview

  • 1Description

The CycLight from FloLight is a single-fixture, LED light solution for greenscreen shooting. The CycLight greatly eases the shooting of greenscreen by producing smooth, even light intensity without hot spots. With the CycLight, you can simplify your lighting set-up by using just one light instead of using multiple units in an effort to get the necessary even coverage.

The FloLight is designed to be floor or ceiling mounted. When placed 2-3' from the background the benefits of the Cyclight's innovative technology become apparent. The CycLight features three high-power 40W LED emitters and uses the proprietary Light Wave lens technology to limit the amount of light closest to the floor (or ceiling) but progressively increases the output as it climbs the background for an evenly lit greenscreen. The unit can be angled to aid in evening out the light.

Because the LEDs are green, the light saturates the greenscreen more fully than a white light would do. The Cyclight also has an onboard dimmer for controlling the overall intensity of the unit. Three internal fans ensure quiet, cool operation. The unit has 3 1/4"-20 threaded holes in its base so clamps can be attached and allowing for overhead mounting. It also has a carry handle and face cover for safe transport.

    Flolight CycLight reviews

CycLight is rated 1.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great easy to use light for interviews I'm a veteran video producer who shoots at major studios across the country. I've used the CycLight multiple times for quickly lighting green screens when conducting solo interviews. I think it's a quality product that is solid construction and has great control of the light due to the dimming dial. The dimmer is important depending on if you are lighting on a standard green or using digi-green for the background. You can literally light a green screen with just this one light and then run three-point lighting on your interview. I don't put the light right up against the green. Instead I place it right behind and almost underneath the interviewee's chair, which is about 8-10 feet away from the green screen to eliminate bounce. That gives me the best spread and balance of the light. The only reason I gave if four instead of five stars is that I would recommend FloLight to add a sliding piece of metal to the top that could clip the light from going too high onto the ceiling and bouncing the green back onto the top of the interviewee. I've easily handled this using a little black wrap and gaffer tape on my shoots, but it would be nice to have it built into the product. Other than that small addition, I think this is a great light for anyone who does a lot of green screen interviews.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why did it need to be green? This light was great for evenly lighting the screen but the spill from the light always seemed to taint the subject. I used this on 2 shoots recently, one in a small confined space 14x10 room and the other in a 25 foot area. I had 5-6 ft between the subject and the screen/camera as well as 7-10. In both shoots the light bounced off of the ceiling and managed to tint the subjects skin green all over as opposed to just around the edges. It's more time consuming to color correct the image than it was using a regular light. I would recommend they just offer this as a white light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Green planet This is a great idea and concept only. In practice what actually happens is it casts such a powerful greenlight that it'll actually taint the entire subject. I shoot green screen often and place the subject 10 ft in between the screen and the camera. Even with 10 feet from the screen I got so much green light reflecting back off the screen onto the ceiling on the subject that it took hours of color correcting to get the person to look normal. Completely defeats the purpose. They would be better off to just have it put out white light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does little for the cost Flolight says place it 120mm (4 3/4) from wall but enclosed manual say 34 feet. At 120mm its not a smooth light. Even at 4 feet, light has a hot spot in the middle and not even. Standard florescent tubes work better. Expected better for the money.
