Great powerful compact flash.

Perfect for my Panasonic G9 and GX7. My OLY M43 flash was ok but broke 2 twice. This flash is almost as powerful and I like the simple quick dials.

Good thing in a small package

It just works! Small, surprisingly heavy, and feature packed. The only downside is the need for four (4) AA batteries.

NIssin i40 on a Fuji X100F

I specifically purchased this flash for the small body on the Fuji X100F and think the size is a good match. TTL & Auto Modes: Both modes initiate TTL exposure when the flash is hot shoe mounted, or off camera with a TTL cord (Use Canon pinout cords for Fuji bodies).  The mode difference being that in the Auto mode, TTL power compensation (FEC) must be done from the camera's TTL menu (+-   5 stops in 1/3 stop increments in the X100F)  The TTL FEC dial does not change power in the Auto mode. In the TTL mode, you can make TTL FEC changes using the dial on the flash head (+- 2 stops in 1/2 stop increments). This is a really nice feature, in that you can adjust the FEC without looking, using the audible clicks on the flash dial for feedback, rather than looking at the dial on the flash head or looking at the cameras TTL menu.  In Manual mode, you change flash power on the flash head, from full power to 1/256th power. The camera menu Manual power setting will follow. If you try to adjust the flash power in manual from the camera menu, the power setting will return to whatever the manual setting on the flash head is. Zooming: The flash head zooms from 24 mm to 105mm, plus has an Auto Zoom mode. This is changed by holding down the power button for three seconds while in the Manual mode. It does not appear that you can zoom the head in TTL or Auto exposure modes.  Verified that with version 18-9 firmware that HSS is active. Shot fine with the Fuji at 1/4000th How to check Firmware version of i40: Turn on the flash, pressing Pilot button and Power button at same time for a second. The indicator lamp A and C will pulse until you take out batteries, the pulse count identifies the firmware version. For example:  Indicator lamp A twinkling 18 times, Indicator lamp C twinkling 9 times, i40 version is 18-9, which is the latest version for Fuji. I also use the Demb Flip-It with Diffuser and find the Photojournalist model is a good fit.

After much research I bought the two unit i40 kit.  Works great with my Olympus Pen-F.  The i40 is compact but packs a powerful punch.  They are well-built and should take the normal jostling around your camera bag--emerging unscathed and ready to go to work.  It did take some time fiddling with the i40 and Pen-F settings to get things coordinated.  The i40s included directions and the downloaded version left a lot to be desired.  Still Ill give the i40 five stars.

Excellent flash

After 2 years of owning this flash I can say it has been an excellent investment. Its extremely well built, compact, and thoughtfully put together. I should mention that near the 2 years mark of ownership it did develop a slight issue where it would not fire when aimed straight up. But Nissin, in a no-nonsense, no-question-asked manner (and with the help of B&Hs excellent invoice history) replaced it. Truly remarkable service.

Very good and fit my camera.

I really like this smallish but effective flash. It's the right size for my Sony a6400. I also like that it is simple and straight to use. My other flashes have many more disks and lights to deal with. This flash does the job, is easy to use, small and light to carry or pack. Glad I have it; I can see myself using this flash whereas the others stay in the drawer!

You could use this flash in manual exposure mode on the FZ80, but it's not compatible for TTL exposure, since the flash is compatible with Micro 4/3 cameras, and the FZ80 is not a Micro 4/3 camera, but a point and shoot camera.

question

will this work with the sony a6000
Asked by: Anonymous
If you are looking for a TTL flash for use on the Sony Alpha A6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera, no, the Nissin i40 Compact Flash for Four Thirds Cameras would not be compatible. The flash would fit onto the camera and may work on full manual mode with you setting the power of the flash manually, however, there would be no automatic TTL flash exposure capability if paired with the Sony A6000.
