VERY COMPACT AND HI-QUALITY SOUND. RECOMEND !

Perfect for a desk setup

I previously used the FiiO E07K with my laptop and loved it for several years. I recently purchased a desktop computer, and needed something to power my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro full-sized headphones as well as provide a line out for my Bose Companion III desk speakers. This little USB DAC/AMP does the job perfectly. The rear micro-USB-in and rear jack line-out is ideal for a desk setup, and the front headphone port with convenient volume knob works wonderfully. The E10K is probably the best inexpensive, aesthetically appealing, and ideal DAC/AMP for a compact desk setup. As usual, the sound is fantastic in comparison to the garbage noisy internal soundcard of most computers, and can power headphones and deliver audio to powered desk speakers flawlessly. The low noise floor here is superb, and the response is commendably flat. The bass control switch is not entirely graceless depending on the headphones. In the case of the DT770s, it actually gives some tracks a fun kick in some of the sub-bass and is far from bloated or distasteful. It also works without a hitch on Windows and Linux, no driver installation necessary. The flawless Linux compatibility alone gives it a massive edge over most Cambridge DAC/Amps. Build quality is, as usual, excellent, especially for the price. I would highly recommend this product.

I'm no audiophile but I can tell the difference.

Sounds great for my needs. Drives my Sony MDR-V6 perfectly fine. I am no audiophile but I can tell the noise floor is much lower, and my headsets sound a bit crisper when I had my friends do a blinded sound test. Another benefit is I can use a long usb cord to mount this device under the desk.

Made no difference that I could tell.

I purchased this after buying a pair of Hifiman HE-400 headphones and reading on numerous audiophile sites that I needed an amp to get the most of out of my headphones. I noticed no difference in a few days of listening between this amp on my Hifiman headphones and my Grado SR-80 headphones. The only justification I could make for owning this would be the much higher volume ceiling I could get. On my HP laptop, I have the volume maxed at 100 and it gets acceptably loud. But if I really wanted to rock out and go very loud, I would need additional amplification like this. So either I have horrible hearing, or the improvements this makes to the tonal quality of the headphones is negligible compared to my laptop headphone jack.

Love it!

A good amp/DAC, nice metal housing, installs automatically on Windows 10. Drives my MDR-7506s very well.

I bought my E10K in 2014, 5 years next month. Definitely well built and durable. I've never had a problem with the hardware or driver compatibility, used with both Win7 and Win10. Good DAC specs, clear sound, fair price; very satisfied with this product and B&H service.

Great Device!

question

Do you set it to Low or High Gain?
Asked by: robin w.
Depends on two factors really (which obviously means it depends on the headphone that you are using)Check these 2 headphone specs when pairing a headphone with an amp.1. Impedance. This unit can handle up to 150 ohms according to FiiO.2. Transducer sensitivity. Usually in dB/mW but manufacturers won't mention that's @ 1 Khz

question

Does the output for the 3.5 mm front output versus the 3.5 mm rear sound the same? It seems the front output has more control
Asked by: Anonymous
The front output is a dedicated headphone output from the unit. The line out on the rear is used to connect to external speakers.

Is the line output a LINE OUT or PRE OUT?

Is the line output a LINE OUT or PRE OUT?
Asked by: Michael
This is a line out, which is exactly what you would expect and want in a device like this. You will only see a 'pre-out' on a device with mixing capabilities, which this does not have.

question

How is this powered? Will it have issues if I use it on a smartphone?
Asked by: Anonymous
Just btw some sources do say the Nexus 5 will work as it supports USB_AUDIO on Android 5.0+ and USB Host (so it'll provide power). However, not officially supported anywhere the E07k/E17k is a better bet. You can also always just get the X3 2nd gen or X5 from the grey market for pretty cheap
