MindShift Gear Nest Filter Case Overview

The MindShift Gear Filter Nest Storage Case is a two-piece storage solution designed for carrying and organizing round filters. Comprised of two separate pouches-an outer protective shell and an inner organizer-this versatile case can accommodate eight filters, lens caps, or step-up/down rings up to 82mm in diameter. Additionally, both an integrated belt loop and grab handle on the outer case offer a variety of means for porting and attaching the case to backpacks, belts, and even tripods.

The outer pouch is a padded, zippered shell designed with an additional front zippered pocket for holding lens cloths or other small accessories. This pouch's belt loop is compatible with the rotation180° Panorama and Professional backpacks, where it attaches to the waist strap to integrate into the unique sliding mechanism of the pack. Alternatively, a grab-handle with slide-release closure can be used for simply carrying the ouch or for hanging from a tripod for easy access while shooting.

The removable inner pouch holds round filters side-by-side within a series of four divided layers, each of which is color-coded. The rear-most divider is wider than the others to specifically accommodate thicker filters, such as variable NDs and polarizing filters. The dividers are constructed from a no-scratch material to ensure protection from dust and debris.

Two-piece storage case includes both a padded outer shell and an internal divider organizer.
Internal pouch can accommodate up to eight round filters, lens caps, or step rings measuring 82mm in diameter.
Dividers are color-coded for quick, easy access to specific contents.
Rear-most divider is designed to hold thicker filter types, such as variable NDs and circular polarizers.

I'm a hobbyist photographer and I'm embarrassed to say that, I never knew something like this even existed. I always kept my filters in their boxes and it took up a lot of room in my camera backpack. This product is well constructed and fits the different filter sizes that I have, all the way up to 77mm. Highly recommend. Fast shipping from B&H as well.

If, like me, you've invested in filters, particularly 82mm magnetic round filters, paying a little more for their protection is worth every penny. This wallet, unlike the flatter roll-out style, provides better protection, access and organization. The internal 8-filter sleeve is removeable if you want to reduce weight/bulk and carry it in your camera bag. Or use the case's outside pocket for lens cloths or memory cards and strap the case to your tripod. Somewhat pricey but well-made and functional.

There are many more affordable filter cases available and I have tried several over the years and have not particularly cared for any of them. This one cost much more than any of my previous cases but like most Think Tank gear, it was worth it. Having 8 slots with two of them being just a little larger to more easily hold VNDs was great. I store both filters and rings in the case and it makes using that gear much easier. An added bonus is the ability to be able to connect the case to the outside of camera bags and avoid wasting internal space.

Good padded separations. Good zipper closure. Interior flap separates the inner compartments from the compartments in the front and rear of the pouch. Belt loop on the backside for easy carrying.

I needed a filter case to hold my 3 sets of Freewell Magnetic VND systems while running and gunning. I had been splitting them in 2 of the freewell cases (minus the diffusion base filters, which I don't need). Everything I need from those kits fits in this one case. The color coded slots make it easier to find the filter I want. It's easier to insert my fingers and remove a filter from this case than it was with the freewell cases. The only complaint I have is that the outer sides of the interior container don't have the same microfiber material. Technically, there are no filter slots outside the main container. But I needed one more slot than was available, and a place to store my lens caps. I don't mind if the lens caps are in an abrasive place, but I worry about my 9th filter potentially getting scratched by the polyester material. I also like the tiny exterior pouch for holding disposable lens tissues.

Very compact way to carry six filters. I use it as a two in one. The inner case goes in the camera bad while the outer case is on the belt of my Mindshift back pack. Wish the outer case was a bit more rigid in its own and the zipper was in the other side. Easy to unzip and very hard to re zip.

This Filter Nest Storage case can hold 8 x 3.4 x 3.5". This is not large enough to hold the Profoto Click Gels which are 4.7 x 4.7 x 2.5".

The largest filter i have in my bag is a 82mm so i would say yes. With that said there is plenty of room in the bag to store other adaptors, without it damaging your filters. All around i think its great buy.

How is this pouch at keeping dust off the filters? Does that fuzzy stuff in the sections come off on the filters? Thx

Your filters will stay clean in the case, no issue there, what so ever... It's well built and water resistant. The only issue I've ever had with this case is, that I have a few of the thicker filters like Singh Ray's Vari-N-Duo, Vari-ND and the Color Combo Polarizer. The case isn't intended for such deep rimmed filters so space gets a little tight and occasionally, I'll get a finger print smudge on the filter because I have to pry it out with my fingers. But I have since move the two thick ones out of this case and it works a lot better... Hope this helps...

I have about a half dozen of 49mm and 52mm filters that I would prefer to keep in the plastic boxes/cases they are sold in (approx 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 1/2 ). Will these boxes/round cases fit inside a Mindshift case?

No, they won't fit. Even if they did it would be difficult to use. Double the effort - remove from the case then remove from the box.

Is the insert case sealed? I have heard some of Mindshifts other cases have open bottoms (sides are not sewn to allow for accordioning), where dust can get in. If I used this on occasion with out the outer case, would they still be in a safe/ dust free case?

The pockets measure about 80 x 80mm. the Cokin A filters are 66 x 72mm so they should fit.
