    Canon LiDE 220 reviews

CanoScan LiDE220 Color Image Scanner is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 82.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product, bad connection! I replaced an older Canon scanner with this model and once I learned how to use the software, I absolutely loved everything about it, except one thing; there is no on/off button and also no power cord. This means the only connection is a USB cable. This was fine when I powered up my computer and immediately used the scanner, but if I didn't immediately use the scanner, the computer thought there was no scanner connected! The good news was; all I had to do is to switch to a different USB port to get it working. However, this became such a great source of irritation that I decided to return the scanner for one with a power cord.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be very cautious about alleged Mac OS compatibility I wasted 1/2 a day trying to get this scanner to work. It did work once or twice but then nothing would wake it up. Could only get it to scan by pulling the USB lead out & plugging it back in. When it did work none of the buttons (scan to PDF, scan to email etc) on the front of the scanner would work as expected. All they would do was open a basic scanning window. These problems existed through both the Canon software & Apple's Image Capture app. I'm not alone in this, Mac users have been reporting these problems since the scanner was first released. My mistake for not doing better research first. All-in-all very disappointed. Have since returned it as I shouldn't have to find work-arounds & waste time trouble-shooting something as simple as a scanner. Should add that I am using Mac OSX (10.11.5) running on a Retina 5K 27 iMac 4GHz i7

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good scanner but s/w too simplistic I have had an LiDE 210 for a year or more, and I needed one in my summer home, so I bought the 220 which is the current product. The scanner is much the same - I'm sure it's as good or better than the 210. BUT the software is not. Canon reduced the capability - presumably to make it simpler for neophytes. But in doing so they took away at least one excellent feature of the 210's MP Navigator EX; it's ability to generate a multi-page PDF from a multi-page original. In MP Navigator EX, you scan the pages and it adds them to its user area as they are scanned. You can then select which scanned pages to process, and have them saved as a PDF, multiple JPGs, etc. With the 220, you get a one PDF file for every page scanned. So if you have a 3-page original to email to someone, they are going to get 3 separate PDFs, not one PDF with 3 pages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CanoScan I have a Brother laser printer that I have owned since 2002 and it still rings like a bell. I am attracted to printers with scanners, but it simply isn't necessary for me to purchase one at this time. The CanoScan served my needs for price and usability. I needed a scanner for older photographs and documents for a research project and it got the job done. Pulled it out of the box, plugged in the USB, and started Photoshop and the scanner's drivers were immediately ready to go. Mission Accomplished!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent scanner but... This is a decent scanner for the money but there are several issues with it. First, the online and included manuals are just slightly better then useless. It may seem cute with its internet interface but the information isn't clearly there or easily found. Second, a major part of the included software, MyImageGarden, will only print to Canon printers. Any other brand printers that may be present in Windows are not seen by the program. Canon tech support says that's the way it is. This is not stated on the box or in the description of the scanner/software. A final comment is that the color accuracy is good but not great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't scan white! Quiet, quick, does not allow as my old HP (chooses the scan area for you), but none of that matters. Its rendition of white is horrid! Every color image I scan that has white surrounding the colored area is awful! I just ran a test of the old one vs. this scanner on the same source document and I wish I could post it. Looked for settings to change and found none. As it is, the scanner is destined for the electronic waste pile. A shame.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not work well in Windows 10 or not at all. Same problem as others reviewers have reported when using Windows 10. I have two exact computers computers (upgraded to Windows 10) and this scanner works only on one. On the one that works, it will disconnect while scanning a multi sheet document. It varies, I may be able to scan 20 sheets or just a few before it disconnects. At the end I have a lot of pdf files (instead of one) to complete scanning of a multisheet document. Great for scanning a few sheets/pictures, but had I know of this problem I would definitely not purchased this scanner.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good - But... The quality is top notch. I bought this to replace a Lide 210 that dies of old age. Unfortunately the software is awkward and clumsy. 6 pages to open to set a file path, three to open to change the path for the next doc. Not good as the old 210.
