Gli pro PVX9000 overview

  • 1Description

The GLi Pro PVX-9000 - Stereo Power Amplifier (10,000 W Max) is a 3RU 19" rackmountable device intended for installed and live sound reinforcement applications that require high power output such as in a club, bar, or music venue. The amplifier can also be used to drive high power requirement loads such as large subwoofers or transducer arrays in home theater applications. The unit provides 2000 W RMS per channel and can be bridged for a total maximum output of 10,000 W with a frequency response of 20 to 20,000 Hz, a signal to noise ratio of more than 100 dB, and a total harmonic distortion rating of less than 0.1%.

The front panel features clip/protect LED indicators and separate marked gain controls for each channel. To maintain a safe operating temperature, the unit utilizes a fan-driven cooling system. For power the amplifier features a switchable 115V 60 Hz/230 V 50 Hz power supply.

    Gli pro PVX9000 reviews

    PVX-9000 - Stereo Power Amplifier (10,000 W Max) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of power (1,200 watts/ch), great price! I purchased the PVX-9000 to use in an outdoor fairground paging system that has lots of old wiring, amplifier-killing RF interference, and is prone to lightning strikes. Therefore, I didnt want to risk putting one of my expensive amplifiers in the system. But, I still wanted one that had lots of power and would be either easy to repair, or disposable. In the past, I tried the newest fad the Class D amplifiers and found they tend to cut out instantly as soon as they clipped, leaving the audio choppy and inconsistent. After testing, I think the PVX-9000 will do the job for not a lot of money. The PVX-9000 is rated at 10,000 watts per the online literature. Thats unrealistic for any amplifier. After contacting GLI, I found the PVX-9000 is rated at 1,200 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms (2,400 watts bridged mono at 4 ohms). I hooked one channel of it up to a pair of 18 McCauley subwoofers and ran it to the clip light. I think 1,200 watts per channel is reasonably accurate. The amplifier is clean and noise-free with no distortion. Unlike finicky Class D amps, this amp clips softly and has some headroom after the clip light is reached. Its comparable to the older Class AB amplifiers of the late 1990s complete with a large toroidal transformer for lots of extra reserve power. The owners manual and printing on the box packaging say its rated at 500 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms. Ignore that its closer to 1,200 watts. It is well-constructed for its price point; 16- and18- gauge stamped steel, a heavy duty toroidal transformer and clean, neat circuitry laid out on the inside makes for efficient cooling and ease of servicing. Two large ventilation fans keep both amplifier channels cool. The front panel is neat and attractive. The owners manual is poorly written, but the only thing youll really need to know is to set the input gain switch to the 20X position, which is 0db the most common setting for live sound gear. The 40X and .755X settings correspond to +6db and -10db respectively so you can match to other types of equipment as needed. I've found the sales team at GLI to be prompt with returning emails and handling my requests. Customer service is as important as good gear. For a decent quality, high power, disposable amplifier this is a great amp. Its heavier than the fancy Class D amplifiers, but its extra weight gives you the headroom Class D cant, for a very reasonable price.
