Transcend JetDrive 725 overview

  • 1Description

The 960GB JetDrive 725 SATA III JetDrive Internal SSD from Transcend is a replacement SSD with 500 MB/s read and 430 MB/s write speeds for your MacBook. This upgrade kit includes tools, instructions, and an enclosure case that is less than 0.5" thick for housing your original drive. Inside the kit are two types of screwdrivers and a step-by-step guide on how to open your MacBook and copy over the data from your original drive to the JetDrive SSD. Once the JetDrive has been installed, use the JetDrive Toolbox software to check health status and enable TRIM support.

If you want to reuse the original drive as a portable drive for extra storage, Transcend has also provided an enclosure case for it. The enclosure is made from aluminum for protection and is powered via USB 3.0, which supports data transfer rates of up to 5 Gb/s. When you need to travel, use the included pouch to protect the enclosure from scratches.

    Transcend JetDrive 725 reviews

960GB JetDrive 725 SATA III JetDrive Internal SSD is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Upgrade Overall, I'm extremely happy with the upgrade the added storage space. The drive seems just tiny bit slower than the original Apple drive but I don't have any hard numbers to back that up and it is barely noticeable. I'm very happy with the upgrade. Installation was extremely easy. The only issue with installation is the included instructions aren't up to date regarding regarding enabling of TRIM with Yosemite using Transcends JetDrive Toolbox App. A small bit of internet research cleared up the fact that this isn't supported and the functionality has been disabled in the App. The added benefit of using the old SSD drive with the external enclosure for an external SSD drive is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy upgrade of SSD drive space Just received this SSD upgrade for my laptop I had held off after reading that the first version of this drive had problems fitting in some systems. This new version fits perfectly in my Mid 2012 15 Macbook Pro Retina.I've been working on PCs and laptops for over 25 years and this was the easiest drive upgrade I have ever experienced. I was somewhat surprised at the simplistic 2 page instruction sheet but it was accurate enough to get the job done. The included USB case worked well for using Disk Utility for cloning the original SSD drive to the new SSD drive after booting to Recovery Mode (hold Option key when powering on). Turned off the system, used the included P5 screwdriver to remove 10 screws from the laptops back plate, remove the plate, the included T5 screwdriver to remove the single screw holding the SSD in place and remove the original drive, swap in the new SSD (with the already cloned copy of the original drive), replace the black screw retaining the drive, put back the back plate and screws, turn the system back on and it booted right up.System seems faster and now I have 722GB free instead of 12. :-) And now I have the old drive in the case to use as an emergency bootable backup. While I had the backplate off I sprayed some canned air to dislodge some accumulated dust. My past experience with Macbook Pros is that they were a little tricky to take apart to access drives, etc. Kudos to Apple and Transcend for making this so simple.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More headroom The 960GB Jetdrive 725 is a great addition if you initially bought a 15 Macbook Pro Retina with a 256Gb SSD. It's easy to install, and if you do some quick googling, you can figure out how to enable TRIM, so it operates just like the stock SSD. The enclosure that comes with the kit is a nice addition, and allows you to utilize the factory SSD as an external hard drive. While the Jetdrive is a little pricey, it gives you a little head room, and may be a more suitable option for those not looking to upgrade their Macbook Pros just yet. I just so happened to get mine on sale, so it was a more reasonable upgrade for me. So far, everything is running fine, and seems to be running just like normal. Should anything go awry, I'll report back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy installation Just follow the included installation guide - everything works perfectly. Speed is atleast as fast apple's drive. Trim is a little cumbersome due to Apple's restrictions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good replacement drive Replaced a failed Apple SSD in MacBook Pro. Couldn't read the old SSD, so I ran the recovery portion from an external HD USB 2.0 so that took a while. Physical install was easy. Fit perfectly, good thing since there's no extra space anywhere. Got it all working via the USB interface before cracking the laptop to open and install, simple enough. Good opportunity to blow out all the accumulated dust too. Works fine so far. 400+ extra gigs will be nice too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great drive, easy install I can't believe how easy it was to swap out my 250 GB SSD drive that came with my MacBook Pro with this one. The tools that came with the drive were a perfect fit, the instructions were clear and I did the whole swap in about 10 minutes. It took a couple of hours to reload from my time machine backup, but everything worked perfectly and with the case they supplied, I have a spare 250 GB drive. I only wish it didn't cost so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works great! The big flash size enables me to add several virtual machines to the system for verifying application/drivers for different versions of OSX/Windows by using one MAC simultaneously. Specially, when I am on the road. The access speed is wonderful.
