    Fantom GF3B2000UP reviews

2TB G-Force3 Pro USB 3.1 Gen 1 External Hard Drive is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wrong I ordered this Hard Drive GF3 B2000UP (2TB 7200RPM) but when connected to the computer it says 3TB, I was happy about 1TB extra but the disc was slower, so I checked the serial number at back of the hard drive but the serial number was correct GF3 B2000UP. Then I start comparing the different Fantom models and I found this one "GF3 B3000U'' that I don't think is 7200RPM because it doesn't say in the SPECS, So I think this mistake happens in FANTOM FACTORY they put the Wrong Sticker in to the Aluminum Case. I cannot say Fantom Hard Drives are bad because this is the first time I bought this brand, hope this was a single mistake from Fantom but I'm exchanging it for another brand.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mac users - check on whether this drive is USB 3.0 speed On the side of the box of this drive it says OS Support: Mac OS X 10.5 or later (USB 2.0 speed). The manual, which is dated 2010, says the same thing. Nothing on the B&H site describes this, and neither does the Fantom site unless you read the online manual. I contacted Fantom support. After giving them the model and serial number, they said it would be USB 3.0 speed on the Mac, and that their manual needs updating. I'll take them at their word as speed is not too critical for me. I do not yet have a USB 3.0 Mac (I plan to get one soon), so I cannot test it. If speed is important, check before or immediately after buying.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not NTFS formatted The specs state that the disc is already formatted for NTFS, but the instructions that came with the drive stated that formatting had to be done, so I did it. On my computer it took 30 hours to do the NTFS formatting, so that annoyed me. I thought that all I had to do from the advertizing was to plug it in and use it. Not so. My laptop is a HP 2000 210 US and likely does not have USB3, but I did not expect formatting to take so long. OK, so I have had the drive for a week and it seems to be working fine. I may rate it again after I have used it for a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so far so good Works as I expected! Even though it was to be formatted for MAC, it was easy to reformat on 10.12.1.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unacceptable noise I had high exceptions for this drive since I own an older drive from this company. I was disappointed with the new one and I must return it. It is much to noisy. Despite it's USB 3 interface, it take much to long to perform a Time Machine backup on my Mac Mini. It has a blue LED indicator which is much to bright, lighting up the room at night when I am trying to sleep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I will buy more of these I did a lot of looking before I bought this drive, compared many models from many brands and found that they all pretty much say the same thing. The major difference is that I've almost never read a bad review for a Fantom drive. I use this drive to store all of my files and in a couple of weeks I'll purchase another. This is the perfect hard drive solution for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality for the price I bought 2 of these and use them to hold server disk images for an offsite backup solution. We rotate them daily. The drives are well made in an aluminum enclosure and seem very durable. The drive uses an external power supply with power switch which is more stable than USB power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless performance Reliability is key for an external USB hard drive like the 2TB G-Force3 Pro. I cannot address that issue since I have used this drive every day for only 3 weeks. But I will say that the performance has been excellent. This drive replaces a Hitachi which failed gracefully by taking excessive time to write data. The G-Force is quiet. It is rather heavy--I would say nearly twice the weight of the Hitachi, i.e., it is well built. The USB 3.0 operation is really fast. I backup my C: drive files to the G-Force every other day. This includes the Windows system files along with all my programs. I use a backup program that has overhead of determining which files to add and which to delete and ends up writing around 6 GB on average each time. The entire process takes around 15 minutes and examines around 700,000 files. I hope the G-Force is reliable as I would want to use additional ones when it comes time to replace other external hard drives that I have connected to the computer. The cost of the hard drive was less than $.
