    Metz 64 AF-1 reviews

mecablitz 64 AF-1 digital Flash for Pentax Cameras is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Known issues with light, 6 months to repair! UNACCEPTABLE! Huge disappointment! After reading reviews that the secondary light has a tendency to noisily explode, rendering the whole unit useless I thought I would be one of the ones that it won't happen to but boy was I wrong! Sent it into CRISS Camera repair as was advised under warranty and it took 6 months to get back!!!!!! This was no fault of CRISS but because they had to wait 5 months to get parts from the manufacturer! Totally unacceptable! On the fifth month I complained so much that they offered to loan me a replacement. If I could do it over again I would have purchased a different flash.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for me The touch screen is not for me. Not only that it uses more battery power (20%, according to the manufacturer), it also doesn't stay more than 3 seconds in any of the adjustments modes. In other words - If you are going through the menu options and pause for 2-3 seconds then it will go back to the home screen. Very annoying. On my K5 this flash didn't fire HSS in manual mode. Not sure if this was the unit or a general issue. I replaced it for the Pentax AF540FGZ II Flash and this one is working fine The Metz is huge. The extended zoom range may be useful for some but the actual power is not higher than the Pentax. Only when zoomed all the way in

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Metz yet I have been a pro for 30 yrs now and have had just about every Metz flash made. I had been using the 58af series for a few years, but never really cared for the dimly lit blue/green display and the various buttons you had to navigate to make selections. Now comes the 64af with touch screen controls. Very easy to read, it is much quicker to make the selections you want and display is much brighter than previous flashes. It is a bit bigger in size than the 58 series, but not enough to be a deal breaker. Battey compartment door is tight and precise like other series Metz's. The Rapid battery re-cycle option is a nice feature, as well as the customary 2cd reflector for fill in bounce. I have not noticed any more battery consumption than with previous models. I use Energizer rechargables (2500 nimh) and can easily shoot 3/4 of a wedding without changing them out..and I change them at the reception just so I have a fresh set, not because they are exhausted. This is with the flash usually on Automatic and running my camera setting manually, and the flash on the majority of the time. For me, this is a welcome addition and I will be buying a second one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Big, not easy to control I don't like this touch screen for these reasons: 1. Uses battery power 2. Too many clicks to make changes 3. Keeps going back to home screen if you halt for 2-3 seconds during setup - very annoying The battery compartment doors doesn't open enough and I had hard time getting the batteries out. The front small light can be useful and the range is imressive I returned this product and ordered the Pentax AF540FGZ II
