Sonnet TSATA6-SSDPS-E2 overview

  • 1Description

The Tempo SSD Pro Plus SATA PCI Express Card from Sonnet is installed inside your computer to hold up to two 2.5" SSDs or hard drives and offers two eSATA ports. The controller chip on the card provides SATA III 6Gb/s data transfer rates for the storage drives and ports. You can install two SSDs onto the card and configure them for RAID 0 via software to deliver read speeds up to 960MB/s. This card also allows you to connect two external storage systems via eSATA for creating more space to store your files or improve performance by creating a RAID set with up to eight drives.

Tempo SSD Pro Plus is a full-length, full-height card that occupies a PCIe 2.0 x4 slot inside a Windows or Mac computer. Since the card is AHCI compliant, the drivers are installed automatically making installation of the card simple. This card is ideal for anyone who wants to maximize the full potential of SATA III 6Gb/s SSDs, when your system uses a controller that only provides SATA II 3Gb/s transfer rates.

Adds Fast SSDs to Your System

    Sonnet TSATA6-SSDPS-E2 reviews

Tempo SSD Pro Plus SATA III PCI Express Card is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Upgrade! I noticed a one star review because it didn't work with a PC. I felt compelled to write. I purchased this for my 2008 Mac Pro, with 2 250gb Samsung 850 EVO SSD cards. My speed test went from about 115 to 950!!! I can now do 5 camera multicams in Final Cut X without dropping frames. Just a note.... 2009 Mac Pro... no problem. But on the 2008 make sure you use the slot above the graphics card. It is 16 lane. The two above it are 4 lane. Also, This is a good company. They answer the phone and are knowledgable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Solid Product with Some Quirks.... Have had the product running for over a week in a MacPro5,1 and its solid. Overall a good product with a lot of functionality. Nice to see the integrated 2x eSATA ports and being able to use any regular consumer SSD's. PROS: - Fast due to PCIe x4 interface ( 902MBps Read & 717MBps Write w/ 2 x Samsung 1TB SSD 840 Evo in RAID 0 ) - Can use any off-the-shelf inexpensive consumer SATA SSD drives - Includes 2 x eSATA ports so it saves a PCIe slot - Appears as two cards in PCI scan since the 2 external ports and 2 internal are on separate chips/ PCIe x2 channels - Hot-Swapping support on eSATA and port multiplier support CONS: - No Option Boot! - Disables the Option Boot feature on OS X and it cannot be re-enabled. Holding the Option key at Mac startup displayed a white screen. Tech support stated this was likely due to the PCIe x4 interface when I mentioned other PCIe x2 products like the Apricorn Velocity Duo SSD do not have this issue. - No hardware RAID 0/1 - Unlike the Apricorn Velocity, this board is exclusively software RAID, which is done by the OS. - PCB Board is full lenght so there may be issues with the board fitting in some cases that need full clearance. - Drives appear as External due to being connected through the PCIe interface. Not the fault of the board but still an annoying side effect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent addition Easy to install. Recognized instantly. If you're coming from a spinning hard drive, SSD in a 3Gb slot or a single SSD in a 6Gb pcie slot, the speed of two drives in the Sonnet Card will easily impress. This is by far the best upgrade I've ever purchased for any computer. You even have the bonus of two external eSATA ports. I installed this in a 12 core Mac Pro tower and now I don't even think about the trash can version of the mac pro because this upgrade means I don't have to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic Product! But.... Pros I have the Sonnet installed on a 2012 Mac Pro 5,1. It's set up with 2 512Gb Samsung 850 EVO's in a Raid 0 configuration. This setup allows read/write speeds of over 920 MB/s. All my apps startup quickly. Adobe Lightroom no longer has me waiting. Thumbnails and other process's appear almost spontaneously. Also the external SATA connections on the card are a great bonus. My once external drives connected through Firewire 800 are now hooked up using SATA. The difference in speed is night and day! Cons After installing the OS, I could not get the Mac to boot from it. the fix was to download and install the firmware update from Sonnet's web site. Once installed, it was able to boot perfectly. However it had an ill effect... Boot Manager (Holding down the Option key to boot from another device} No longer works! I called Sonnet and spoke to their top tech. He said he wasn't aware of that problem. I did some research and sure enough, most if not all users with that configuration have lost the ability to startup from another device during Boot. Yes, you can always go to system prefs and select another drive to startup from. But what happens if you have problems with the OS and need to make a reinstall? Or if you want to install a new OS but want to do so with a clean install and not an upgrade... All and all I'm very happy with the card. If Sonnet is able to cure the bug casing Boot manager to fail, this would make it an Excellent product. BTW I heard the Apricorn X2 cards don't have that problem..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't Work Don't bother if you want to use it in a windows pc. I can't get it to post in an x58 MB, it freezes and corrupts the bios. In a P35 MB it posted but then hung Vista causing me to have to rebuild all my other raid arrays.Tech support is non-existent and hostile. After many lost hours I gave up and used a $ Vantech SATA card that runs my EVO SSD at rated speeds in my x58 board.Sonnet has been a costly mistake for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blazing Fast Added two Samsung 850 PRO 512s and striped them as a RAID 0. Put my system on the drive and everything is fast as can be. Write speed is about 820MB/s and Read speed is 960MB/s!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stellar Performance I agonized over making this purchase and am so glad I did. This card was installed into a Mac Pro 5,1 running Avid Media Composer. The increased performance is awesome and I'm so glad I took the leap! Worth every nickel!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I just could not get it to work. 1) Problem card would not see all external hard connected to mutiplex ESata. 2) Computer - Mac pro 2012, OS 10.12.1 speed 3.46 ghz, 12core, ram 64gb, place card in PCIe 2nd slot 16x rail. 3) Spoke to support group. 4) Returned for a second card, maybe bad unit. 5) Still same results. 6) if your using the card for just raid 0 for speed only, maybe this is for you.
