SLR Magic SLRD-1333 overview

  • 1Description

Using an Anamorphic Attachment will often limit your taking-lens' ability to focus close to the camera; however, the SLR Magic Achromatic Diopter Set is a pair of diopters with a 77mm diameter thread. The set features highly-corrected glass elements that allow you to close focus with your SLR Magic Anamorphot attachment, or other lenses with a 77mm thread.

When using these diopters with your SLR Magic Anamorphot the +0.33 diopter is effective for focusing between 5 and 10', while the +1.33 is effective for focusing closer than 3.5'.

Corrected optics minimize chromatic aberration in use.
Coated optics for flare reduction.
Diopters are stackable, although SLR magic recommends only doing this with taking lenses longer than 35mm to avoid vignetting.
The diopters come in a small filter case with a magnetic clasp.

    SLR Magic SLRD-1333 reviews

Achromatic Diopter Set (+0.33, +1.33) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Extreme Color Tint, Leads to vignetting I purchased this diopter set separately for use w/ the SLR Magic Anamorphot. I was under the impression these would improve the use of the anamorphic adapter. I have prior experience clamping projector lenses to take-up lenses to get the scope look in camera.First off, you'll need to do a new white balance when adding these diopters. When I first tried them out I was shooting in flat log and didn't notice the extreme color shift to Salmon until afterwards. Additionally, these diopters are super thick and lead to noticeable dark corners and vignetting w/ 35mm lenses on a S35/FF bodies. Frankly, examining 1-to-1 pixel tests, I couldn't tell if there was much of a sharpness change. I found over-sized used $ Tiffen close-up filters, to my eyes, appeared sharper, w/out noticeable color shifts, and didn't cause dark corners even w/ a 28mm lens on a S35 body. Perhaps these diopters work better on old m42/pentax hipster glass; however, on Zeiss sonnar/tessar/distagon lenses in the 28 to 100 range these diopters appear unnecessary. It may lead to a minor improvement at 135mm and higher. Note, the Anamorphot is not a projector lens and doesn't appear to change the focus range of lenses as dramatically as clamped on projection lenses do. YMMV

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money! I really like SLR Magic equipment. I have/use their Micro 4/3 lenses, and ND faders. However, after purchasing a set of Veydra Miniprimes, the 85mm lens does not focus very close. I don't need macro ability, just the ability to focus closer than 4 feet. These diopters, with 2 pieces of glass, are a high quality way to get closer to your subject. These are made to pair with SLR Magic's Anamorphic lenses, but with the 77mm common thread between the diopters and the Veydras, these were the ticket. I can get about 3 feet and 2 feet to a subject respectively with these accessory lenses. People have noted a slight color change. Yes there is a very slight yellow/green shift, but nothing a white balance of the camera wont correct. The best thing is they are sharp, and appear to have little of no effect on the image resolution. This is important, but they also allow the lens to only extend the front, not change the rear dimensions, if say you were using an extension tube. This keeps the lens aligned with my follow focus and screwing them on is very easy. They are well made, and highly recommended!
