iOptron IEQ45 Pro overview

  • 1Description

Conceived, designed, and built for entry-level to intermediate astrophotographers, the iEQ45 Pro GoTo Equatorial Mount with Tripod from iOptron is outfitted with precision motors, zero-backlash gears, and a computer controller to provide an ideal platform for imaging. It features a motorized equatorial mount, the Go2Nova 8407+ computer hand controller, a 2" stainless steel adjustable-height tripod, and an illuminated polar axis scope for faster alignment and setup. The mount has a dual dovetail saddle that fits both Losmandy-and Vixen-style plates for mounting compatible optical tube assemblies (OTAs). With a maximum payload capacity of 45 lb, it can easily hold large telescopes, counterweights, and accessories. The mount has a built-in 32-channel GPS receiver that sends your location and time to the Go2Nova hand controller, so the telescope can be set up quickly with accurate information.

The included dark-field illuminated AccuAligning polar axis scope installs through the body of the mount for accurate initial manual alignment and alignment verification and correction during observation and imaging sessions. The iEQ45 is built for precise tracking, as required during long-exposure astrophotography, with highly accurate stepper motors and the ability for you to program out the Periodic Error Correction (PEC) common to all worm gears.

Its dual-axis 1.8° stepper motor is controlled by the Go2Nova 8407+ hand controller. This system has an internal database of 359,000+ celestial objects, with 60 user-defined objects to program yourself. The hand controller has updatable firmware through the built-in serial port. With nine slew speeds and automatic tracking capabilities, finding and keeping objects centered in the field of view is easy no matter whether you're viewing the fast-moving Moon or much slower deep-space subjects. An adjustable-height stainless steel tripod is included for the mount and your telescope.

An adjustable-height stainless steel tripod, designed for this mount, is included. It has thick 2" legs with a maximum height of 52" to the platform. The 17 lb weight ensures a solid and stable base for the mount and your OTA. To safely store and carry the iEQ45, a hard plastic carrying case is also provided. It features a sturdy piano hinge, with dual locks and lock holes for security. On the inside, custom-cut foam padding protects the mount.

    iOptron IEQ45 Pro reviews

iEQ45 Pro GoTo Equatorial Mount with Tripod & Carrying Case is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wrong 2 tripod leg extension locks CAUTION: I took delivery of the iEQ45 mount and 2 tripod (purchased from B&H) on 6/29/2017. The mount worked fine the first night of use, but at least one leg of the tripod started to slip and was not secure in any extended position. iOptron customer support was well aware of this problem, explaining that the manufacturer had mistakenly delivered some number of tripods with the star shaped knobs designed for the 1.5 tripod, rather than the proper L-shaped locking levers/handles for the 2 tripod. After a week delay, iOptron did send the replacement levers which have fixed the problem of the slipping leg extensions, and it now all works as it should. If you receive a 2 tripod with star-shaped locking knobs, DO NOT use the tripod, but contact iOptron immediately to get the correct hardware. 4-star rating based only on the one night of use during which the mount set up, aligned, and tracked well, and exhibited good goto performance, but cut a star for the mistake in delivered tripod hardware. Still, kudos to iOptron support for resolving the issue reasonably promptly.
