    Tascam DP-32SD reviews

    DP-32SD 32-Track Digital Portastudio is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome machine, easy to use. I needed an easy way to record 8 microphones at once for live amateur radio show production. This is possibly the easiest way to record live and have enough flexibility to adjust and master the recording down to a professional final product. Having 32 tracks allows additional sound effects and music to easily be added in post production without ever having to connect to a PC. Great on the fly!! I like being able to simply focus on my project without being interrupted by social media notifications or emails. I can also drop the raw tracks into my computer for further editing and mastering. I simply love this machine!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't beat it for the money! Don't let the price fool you. This is one solid built unit and it sounds great! The Pros:1. It's built to last. Everything about this unit screams quality. I was actually shocked that it was built so well.. 2. Sound quality. While it may not be a Neve or SSL desk it's pretty darn nice sounding. It sounds like something that costs ten times it's price.3. The display is easy to read and is plenty big enough to see from a few feet away.4. The Mic Pre's. While they are not Neve 1073's they do have a good amount of headroom and are clear. You can always use a external Mic Pre if you want something better.5. The AD/DA. I'm really surpriese at how good the converters are on this thing. I wouldn't call them high end but they are above average and better than everything else I've heard it this price range. Way to go Tascam! The Con's:1. The learning curve. If your used to a analog mixing desk, your in for a surprise! Although knobs and functions are named the same on this unit as they are with a analog mixing desk, the functions don't exactly work the same way. You really need to read the manual fully to understand the internal routing and all the menus. Once you do things a few times using this unit gets eaiser. If your looking for a plug and play solution, this unit isn't for you. 2. internal effects. While the dynamics section is usable (and actually sounds quite good) the reverb(s) aren't the greatest. However I didn't purchase this unit for the reverbs. There are two aux sends so you can use your favorite outboard effects processor. 3. No MIDI support! What the heck Tascam? I would have paid another $ on top of the $ this thing costs to have MIDI support! Hopefully they bring the MIDI support back in the future. As of this writing I can rocommend the following SD card for this unit:SanDisk 32GB Extreme Pro UHS-I SDHC U3 Memory Card (Class 10)B&H # SAEPSDU32GB MFR # SDSDXP-032G-A46 I was able to use it in 24 bit 48.8 kHZ mode with no issues what so ever. Bottom line I would recommend this unit to anyone without hesitation. There is nothing else in this price range that does what this unit does nor is there anything else in this price range with this audio quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice multitrack recorder .. I have a Korg D3200 multitrack recorder, and it's showing its age. These units work great, and the quality of the sound is quite good, but they're pretty complicated to learn .. and worst of all, use an internal hard disk and a CD writer .. both of which are nearly obsolete these days. Also, these units are extremely sensitive to power failures and glitches .. a problem with the power supply while the unit is running can corrupt the disk beyond repair. To guard against possible failure and to get myself a little further into the future, I bought this Tascam recorder. It's considerably less expensive than the Korg, and has fewer features .. but is easier to use and does NOT have an moving parts .. no disk drive, no CD drive .. in other words, less stuff to fail or become obsolete. I'm still learning how to use it, but what I've done so far is impressive. It stores everything on SD cards, so there's not much that can break. And it connects to a computer via USB, making all the raw .WAV files available for backup/restore... or even offline editing on other devices if that's what you need. The quality of the sound is quite good. You can record up to 8 tracks simultaneously, so it would be pretty good at capturing a live performance .. and it will play back 32 tracks (although some are 'stereo tracks) Hard to beat for the money. I'm having a blast with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not for people who have a mind of their own for us, useless..... at this level, we need USER CHOICES, not mfr dictatorship for sake of factory saving 2 dollars. we use mostly condenser mics and old fragile ribbon mics for realistic capture of music, but this idiotic machine forces you to have 0, 4, or all 8 inputs for 48vdc phantom choices, so when we need 5 or 6 condensers and balance ribbons, we cannot use this machine at all. 0, 4, or 8. limited. 21st century ? or back to stone age ? by now, every darn MTR should have USER choice as fundamental design... which means, EACH mic input, should have user choice of whether go 48v or not, INDIVIDUALLY or at least, like zoom r24 does, in groups of 2.... still waiting for tascam to reply if 2 of these units can be connected for simult 16 mic input, like the zoom r24...or not
