If you are looking for a tape that you do not want to stick this is your tape. It works well for audio console labeling. Pencil, Ball Point & Sharpie's will all work. Labeling cable by folding it over connecting tacky side to tacky works... just not sure it is the best for long term. Bottom line for the price and basic labeling... It works.

We use this tape with both our professional audio mixing console and our television production switcher to label faders/sources. It is high-quality tape and does exactly what it is designed to do: doesn't leave any residue.

Would this tape be suitable for hinging a photograph to a mat?
This tape would not be acid-free, therefore it may damage your print down the road. A better option for hinging a print to a mat board is the Lineco Self-Adhesive Linen Hinging Tape (White, 1.25" x 35') B&H # LILTSE400W. https://bhpho.to/2PBjCrT

Can you successfully write on this tape with pencil? Thanks in advance.
Technically maybe pencil would work. But I use a black Sharpie marker. I love this tape to hang my seamless paper on any smooth wall. It holds up and never has removed paint from walls.
