Mackie CR4 overview

  • 1Description

The Mackie CR4 - 4" Woofer Creative Reference Multimedia Monitors (Pair) are a compact and portable solution for providing audio playback in home and studio environments for multimedia work such as mixing music or doing sound for film. The pair consists of one passive un-powered speaker and one Class AB amplifier powered speaker that connect with an included 6' stereo cable. The monitors use 4" polypropylene-coated woofers and a rear port tube for the low end and 0.75" silk dome tweeters for the highs to deliver a frequency response of 70 to 20,000 Hz with a maximum SPL of 100 dB.

A switch allows you to select whether the powered speaker will function as the left or right speaker which is helpful when having to position the speakers near power outlets or when deciding which side is preferable for the volume knob. A front panel LED power ring illuminated on/off switch and volume knob allows you to control level and a dedicated front panel headphone output that defeats the main speaker output can be used to expand the system's monitoring versatility.

A front panel 1/8" stereo input and included 1/8" to 1/8" cable allows you to connect your smartphone or other mobile device directly to the monitors. Other equipment such as audio interfaces, CD players, or mixers, can be connected to the rear panel 1/4" TRS, 1/8" TRS, or RCA inputs. The monitors also come with an 1/8" stereo to RCA cable for connecting to a computer as well as isolation pads for reducing the transmission of structural vibrations and allowing the monitors to be tilted slightly up or down for a better listening angle.

    Mackie CR4 reviews

CR4 - 4" Woofer Creative Reference Multimedia Monitors (Pair) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pair of speakers I have these speakers connected to my desktop PC. I have a decent sound card: an ASUS Xonar DG. I mostly listen to music through Google Music at 320kbps. I love the sound of these speakers. They have enough bass that I do not require a subwoofer. They are monitors, so they mostly have a flat response curve. Frankly, they sound amazing. Foam pads that help you angle the speakers towards your ears and basically any kind of cable you could need are included. I can see if you don't necessarily like the green accents. For me, they perfectly fit my desktop setup. At the review price of $150, these speakers are phenomenal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Computer/Office speakers. Great speakers. Best lows of everything I tried. Bought them for my son to directly connect them to a Denon LP player. I love their sound and the fact that you can turn them off from the front knob. My son connects the LP turtable from the back and the his iphone from the front. No need for an AV equipment or a computer to listen to music. Nice setup for his small room. I also bought the M-Audio AV40 speakers and they do not sound as good and you have to turn them off from the back when not in use. Otherwise they stay own and get hot from the back which means they are constantly powered unless you turn the switch in the back off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible monitors for the price! This was just what I was looking for! I'm a freelance video editor and needed small desktop monitors for my home studio that could give me flat, accurate, and detailed sound for editing. They are also great for watching movies and listening to all types of music. My budget for new monitors was well over this price point, so by no means was I limited to the $ CR4...they just happen to fit my needs perfectly. I believe Mackie had someone like me in mind when they came out with their CR series.I highly recommend these monitors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mackie nailed it with these ones! I use these with a Tascam US-1200 interface and i bought these on a whim because they were a paired set and fairly affordable. Normally I wouldn't have bought monitors without listening to them prior but no stores around had them in stock. Let me just say i bought these almost a year ago and I am continually blown away with how great they sound, as well as give an accurate representation of the frequency band. These are absolutely amazing reference monitors and everybody who can afford these as main monitors for your home studio or just an extra set of monitors in your professional studio, should buy a pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Audio Monitors for a Basic Video Editing System. If you are looking for a pair of speakers for a basic video editing system, start looking at these. These are compact, sound very clear and have some convenient features. They have a built in headphone jack for when you want to turn up the volume, but don't want to disturb others (these can put out a LOT of sound). They also have a volume knob right on the front which is handy. They even come with foam isolation pads. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mackie CR4 Monitors Normally I never write reviews, but I am fully impressed with the CR4's. I wanted some better than average speakers to listen to music in my office. I spent entirely too much time reading reviews and in the process stumbled upon these. They were waiting for me on the steps today so I set them up immediately. For the past few hours I've been playing song after song I listen to a variety of music but this is the first time I've truly heard the same songs. It's a clean balanced sound that I never knew I was missing. If you couldn't tell, I'm thoroughly impressed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dead in 6 months. While it works, it sounds good. no bass but good definition. I brought mine with me to Brazil and 6 months after I bought it, I had the same problem as other customers have already posted: it stops working and when you turn it off and on again, it works for 2 seconds before it dies again. no RMA, Warrant or support whatsoever for me here. There is only one service center in Rio de Janeiro that fixes Mackie (Genos Som) and they ripped me off to get it to work again. almost the same price of a new unit. I've complained to Mackie abouth them and they acted like the fault was mine to be in Brazil. My logitech x530 that it replaced it is still working after 12 years. I just can't recommend Mackie.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the price! I'm using them not much further than arm's length at my monitor. They sound rich yet not muddy and the highs well articulated without being brittle. I very much like them and consider them a very good deal. They came with nice foam pads and are sturdy. While not audio related, I do like the little green light around the front level control - kinda cool. Doubt that anyone will fault these Macks at the price. Highly recommended.
