The Wireless Transmitter for Select Canon and Nikon DSLR Cameras from CamRanger allows you to wirelessly control your digital SLR and view and share images via your mobile device. Remotely access advanced features, functions and settings, such as live view, intervalometer, bulb mode for shutter, and HDR bracketing, in addition to photo capture, movie recording, shutter speed, aperture, white balance, ISO, metering mode, drive/shooting mode, image format, focus mode (Nikon only), focus stacking, auto exposure mode (Nikon only), exposure compensation, bracketing, and software autofocus toggle.

The CamRanger creates an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network to which an iOS or Android device or a Mac or Windows computer can connect. The free CamRanger iOS app then enables camera control without the need for a computer or existing Internet connection. The effective wireless range is 150'. The device is compatible with iOS 4.3 or later.

The provided USB cable charges the included rechargeable, replaceable lithium-ion battery and can also be used to power the device. Also supplied is an Ethernet cable for firmware upgrades. A protective case is included for storage and secure connection to a tripod, belt loop, or other attachment point.

The CamRanger requires the use of a separately available camera-specific USB cable for connection to select DSLRs. For a full list of compatible DSLRs, see the following:

Approximate frame rate is 8-18 fps, depending upon camera
CamRanger App
  • Share images wirelessly from within the CamRanger app on an iPad, iPhone or Android device to social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or flickr, as well as the option to wirelessly transfer to Dropbox and FTP servers.
  • Images can also be emailed, sent as a text message, or printed wirelessly with compatible printers from within the app.
  • Once the app is updated and the settings are configured, images can easily be shared with the press of a button.

  • Selectively print images wirelessly during events or weddings.
  • These features can be accessed while using other CamRanger features, including sharing to multiple devices and auto-saving to either the iOS photo library, an FTP server, or Dropbox.
Take and View Pictures
Wirelessly capture images in multiple drive modes. Thumbnails automatically appear on the top of your device's screen after you capture a photo. Tap a thumbnail to view the image and its histogram and associated meta-data. Images are saved to your camera's memory card and can also be transferred to your iOS device
View Full Resolution
Double-tap an image to view it in full resolution. CamRanger supports full-screen mode to maximize image size. Toggle among a variety of overlays, including AF points, highlight, shadow, grid lines, and aspect ratio
Movie Recording
Start and stop video capture and view it while you record. Perform focus adjustments and touch focusing
Intervalometer and Bulb
Configure the CamRanger as an intervalometer to take time-lapse pictures. Bulb mode is supported for specific shutter speeds. There's no need for the iOS device to remain connected after the initial setup
Wirelessly View and Set Camera Properties
Control shutter speed, aperture, ISO, metering mode, metering mode, drive/shooting mode, image format, focus mode (Nikon only), auto exposure mode (Nikon only), exposure compensation and bracketing, and software autofocus toggle for switching between AF and MF.
HDR / Advanced Bracketing
Configure the CamRanger to capture a series of photos, automatically varying shutter speed, aperture or ISO. Images can then be combined via third-party post-processing software into a single exposure with greater dynamic range
View Memory Card Contents
See thumbnails of the images stored on your camera's memory card. Select photos to be permanently deleted or download them and save them in the iOS photo library
Macro Photography and Focus Stacking
Great for macro work, when the extremely short focusing distance can increase the effects of camera shake; eliminate blur in your close-ups by remotely triggering the camera's shutter, rather than pressing the shutter button. Also makes it easier to physically shoot in the awkward locations in which you commonly find yourself during macro shooting. Additionally, you can perform focus stacking to enhance depth of field (post-processing required). Focus stacking is bracketed focusing similar to HDR but designed for focal planes
Studio Photography / Client Mode
Switch to client mode to disable camera control on the iOS device. Shoot while holding the camera and simultaneously view images on your iOS device. This allows clients, directors and associates to quickly view the wirelessly-transferred shots after they're captured. The CamRanger application also includes optional watermarks for viewing or saving on the image. Additionally, there is a rating system and comparison feature for the clients during the photo shoot. When working on a Mac or Windows computer, you can instantly import and view images in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom as you shoot them
Compatibility with X-Rite's Color Calibrator
The CamRanger iOS app is compatible with X-Rite's ColorTRUE, a color calibration tool used to accurately correct color. The CamRanger app can seamlessly access the ColorTRUE profile within the app, allowing you to view images with accuracy. If you like, you can select from a number of predefined environments, such as Outdoors and Office, to display images based on ambient light with greater accuracy. Easily toggle the ColorTRUE calibration on or off for each image from within the app. X-Rite devices supported with the iOS version of ColorTRUE include ColorMunki Smile, ColorMunki Display, i1Pro 2, and i1Display Pro
Multi Camera Tethering
Available via a free update, the CamRanger enables multi camera tethering where multiple cameras (each with a CamRanger) can all wireless tether to one computer (Mac or Windows) simultaneously

Wireless Transmitter for Select Canon and Nikon DSLR Cameras is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 293.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does NOT perform as advertised I purchased this device to use during astrophotography. In particular, I wanted to use the live view feature to focus stars. I downloaded all the software onto my computer, laptop, and tablet. The software was very unstable. Sometimes my selected commands worked, but most times they did not. The advertised ablity to create a dedicated wifi worked for maybe 2 seconds. Just as soon as I typed or clicked, it dropped the signal. I tried to use it with different devices and cameras, all attempts failed to function as advetised. It frustrated me, and I ended up sending it back to B&H. Don't waste your time or money on this paper weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice to have remote trigger I like the product, The I-pad app is easy to install and use. The MFG website has the full user manual that you should read before you start because you have to set up the network for your Smart Phone/Tablet. Also tells you how to upgrade to the new ver of firmware, if needed. Mine shipped with the newest rev. Thumb nail pictures load quick, full size pictures load at a good rate over the WiFi. I have a D7100 and the kit did not come with the right cable for my camera but the D7100 Nikon came with one in its box so no big deal. The case could be a little bigger, you can store the CamRanger, extra batt, and cables but the AC plug will not fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing little device I was a little nervous about the Cam Ranger living up to the hype but after setting it up (which was incredibly easy) and taking a few practice shots, I was blown away by how well it worked! I primarily shoot nature and wildlife so I set my gear up near the hummingbird feeder in my yard and went back into the house and was able to easily make adjustments to the camera settings and got some spectacular images! I also used it for some long exposure star and moon photos. I feel certain that this product will serve me well for years to come... In fact, I am contemplating purchasing the motorized tripod head that accompanies the Cam Ranger!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Impressive Capability but Short on Critical Feature As many touted, this is a great product for photographers. I've tested it and found one major shortcoming. If I move away from the camera and the lighting changes (landscape shoots), I have no way of knowing that the scene is still correctly exposed because there is no exposure readings provided by the app on my phone or tablet. I would have to rely on just guessing that what I see on the screen is the correct exposure. I don't know for the life of me, why this super expensive remote does not include the most important indicator of all. The exposure meter is the last thing you look at before pressing that shutter release button. If you are using this product, you are shooting blind...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too soon to tell.. Potentially a really great device. Both to control your camera and review your images. My main purpose in investing in the Ranger was to show clients quick samples of their shots. However it takes a LONG time for the image to render on my tablet, especially when shooting in Raw and M_Fine jpeg.. with the file size of the Nikon D800... it does not pop up as quickly as it does on the back of your camera... it renders AFTER all of the files are written... that takes a while. However, the camera controls could come in very handy for long exposures and changing settings in the dark. So time will tell on this one...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly but slow transfer for large raw images I used the cam ranger for portrait photography with a Nikon D810 shooting in RAW format while displaying on an iPad pro. With that workflow it takes about ten seconds per image for transfer and review by clients, which had some folks tapping their feet while waiting. Sucked all the fun out of an otherwise joyful and humorous shoot. Perfect marks for execution, but needs something like 802.11ac for reviewing raw images. In the future, I will try to figure out how to interface with the camera for JPG only and adjust my camera settings to shoot RAW+JPG.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works decently, but does have its limits. I bought this unit to use as a remote camera at events that I shoot. Software and functionality is pretty good. Just as I have seen in many youtube videos about the product. However one thing that you can't notice or know until you actually use it is the delay between the camera and the phone/ipad and then the delay back to the camera from the phone/ipad. That can be considerable and if you are trying to catch fast moving objects (sports for example) what you capture will be a guess game at best. Also if you are expecting a unit that shows perfectly smooth video, this doesn't do it. I think CamRanger is one of the better units in this utility, but it could still improve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the CamRanger! I do a lot of extreme close-up work in the field. What the CamRanger allows me to do is to frame my shot, then step back from the camera (and get out of the mud!) and use the live view on my iPad (via CamRanger) to fine tune my focus, take multiple shots with multiple different exposures/focal points... and not have to do that laying on my belly in the mud working through the view finder. Live View through CamRanger also give me automatic depth of field preview so that I know exactly what my shot is going to look like rather than looking at the darkened depth of field preview through the view finder. Bottom line is it's let me slow down and be more exacting with the work that I do. I love it!
