ASUS AC2400 overview

  • 1Description

The AC2400 Wireless Dual-Band Gigabit Router from ASUS is a versatile, high-performance router, designed to effectively work with a wide variety of wireless and wired devices on your network. It delivers speeds of up to 1734 Mb/s at 5 GHz, and concurrent 600 Mb/s speeds at 2.4 GHz for a total bandwidth of 2334 Mb/s. This means the router gives you lag-free online gaming, 4K/UHD video streaming, and effortlessly copes with even the most bandwidth-demanding tasks. In addition to this, it features fast file-sharing of large files and low-latency online gaming.

With a separate high-gain antenna for each of the four spatial data streams, this power-packed router gives you true 4x4 multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) wireless performances and is designed with AiRadar universal beamforming, for unrivaled multi-device performance and wireless signal coverage up to 5000'. It delivers top performance for all your wireless devices, even those using older Wi-Fi standards. As with all ASUS networking products, you get the support with the widest range of device compatibility, plus free firmware updates for years to come, so your router will always be at the forefront.

The router has built-in USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports for up to 10-times faster data transfers to USB storage devices, printer sharing, and 3G/4G dongle support. It has ASUSWRT graphical user interface for easy, CD-free 30-second setup, and hassle-free advanced network control. The router features AiProtection with Trend Micro with triple-strength total network security, plus parental controls, and privacy protection. ASUS AiCloud 2.0 lets you access, sync, share, and stream your files anywhere, on any Internet-connected device.

Dual USB Ports
You can share printers, 3G/4G (HSPA+) cellular dongles, or USB storage devices over your network. With SuperSpeed USB 3.0, transfer speeds are up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0. These ports are widely-spaced for convenient and easy access when using bulky devices. The easy-to-use USB application puts you in full control of tasks for all connected USB devices, including media streaming, file sharing, and file downloads.
Double Dual-Core Processors
When transferring files to and from SuperSpeed USB 3.0 devices over Wi-Fi, it can be up to twice as fast as a router with a single 1.2 GHz dual-core processor.
Up to 50% more Total Throughput in Busy Multi-Client Networks
In tests* simulating a heavily-loaded network with three wired and two wireless clients, PCs, its hardware NAT and dedicated Wi-Fi processor helped it deliver a total throughput (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and NAT) up to 50% faster than a typical router with a single 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. 1
With its main 1 GHz dual-core processor, the router also has a separate dual-core processor that's dedicated solely to 5 GHz 4x4 Wi-Fi related tasks. So it has Wi-Fi-to-USB transfer speeds that are up to twice as fast*, and can show up to a 50% improvement in total throughput on a heavily-loaded network with multiple clients*. Inspired by the gamer-centric ASUS Republic of Gamers G series notebooks, the router is designed with Stealth Fighter-like curves that exude power and sophistication. It's VESA-mount-compatible too. 2
Optimal Wireless Performance
You can enjoy wireless performance, with 2334 Mb/s of combined 802.11ac and 802.11n bandwidth. With speeds of up to 600 Mb/s on the 2.4 GHz band with Broadcom TurboQAM technology and up to 1734 Mb/s concurrently on the 5 GHz band, the router provides optimal wireless performance. It offers optimal performance for all your notebooks, smartphones, and other wireless devices.
Unrivaled Signal Coverage
Boasting a true four-stream, four-antenna (4x4) design, the router gives you up to 5,000'2 (around 465 m2) of wireless coverage*. That's 33% more than the latest generation tri-band routers*, making it a suitable choice for large homes and multi-floor buildings. 3
Multi-User MIMO Technology
It features MU-MIMO technology, which allows the router to be able to connect to multiple MU-MIMO-compatible clients at each device's maximum speed, simultaneously. This means that as you add more MU-MIMO-enabled devices, the router's capacity actually increases, giving all users the best possible internet experience. 4
AiRadar Beamforming
ASUS AiRadar intelligently strengthens wireless connectivity using 802.11ac universal beamforming technology, high-power amplification, and exclusive ASUS RF fine-tuning. This gives the router up to 33% better coverage than 3-stream antenna designs. In real-world tests, the router lets you stream two 4K videos flawlessly at its maximum range.* 5
For fast wired networking performance, the router comes with a dedicated Gigabit WAN port, five 1000 Mb/s Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports (one of which can be used as a second WAN port), and a hardware-accelerated NAT. The hardware NAT removes the bottleneck between the wired LAN and the internet, allowing you to get the most out of modern fast broadband connections.
Hardware NAT
It removes the bottleneck between the Internet and the home network, giving WAN-to-LAN performance that's between 2-5 times faster than a traditional software-based NAT.
Dual WAN Support
You can configure one of the LAN ports as a WAN to use two internet connections, either to share internet traffic between them or so that one can be used as a backup connection, should one connection fail.
The router is subjected to exhaustive compatibility testing during its development. It works flawlessly with a vast range of adapters, media players, and other wireless devices to ensure optimal performance. It even supports the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game consoles.
Powerful Online Multi-tasking
With its data pipeline of up to 300,000 data sessions, the router has around 20 times the networking capacity of conventional routers for smooth performance.
Time Machine Support
Supports Time Machine backups with Apple devices.
Lets you connect devices instantly with a press of the WPS button.
VPN Support
Configure a VPN server or turn your network-connected devices into VPN-enabled clients, with PPTP and OpenVPN protocol support, with no need for paid VPN services or a dedicated VPN server.
User-Friendly Interface
This router features the enhanced ASUSWRT graphical user interface, which gives you easy access to the 30-second, 3-step Web-based installation process*. It also depends where you can configure the AiCloud 2.0 and all advanced options. ASUSWRT is Web-based, so it doesn't need a separate app, or it does not restrict what you can change via mobile devices. You get full access to everything, from any device that can run a Web browser. 6
Network Map
Comprehensive network map shows you at a glance, details of what devices are connected to your router and their connection status.
Multiple Guest Networks
Lets you create up to six secure guest networks with customized access times and online restrictions.
Adaptive QoS
ASUS adaptive Quality of Service (QoS) optimizes inbound and outbound bandwidth on both wired and wireless connections. Applications and tasks can be prioritized easily using drag-and-drop presets for gaming, media streaming, VoIP, web browsing, and file transfers.
AiProtection with Trend Micro for Advanced Security
AiProtection, incorporating state-of-the-art, three-pronged security from Trend Micro, makes this router secure home routers. As well as providing some advanced parental controls in any mainstream router, it detects malware and other intrusions before they reach your PC or device, and alerts you if an infected device is connected. Potential weaknesses such as password strength and operating system vulnerabilities are also monitored, at all times. Moreover, AiProtection even protects Wi-Fi devices without an installable security program such as smart TV, game console, and smart home devices, giving you total peace of mind.
Router Security Scan
Scans your router for any security vulnerabilities and recommends options for improving protection.
Malicious Site Blocking
It restricts access to known malicious websites in the Trend Micro database for always up-to-date protection.

    ASUS AC2400 reviews

AC2400 Wireless Dual-Band Gigabit Router is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Asus AC2400 Router This is a great router for speed and distance with many configuration options and Asus has greet tech support for their products. When I migrated from the Asus RT-1900 AC68u ( great router) to the AC2400 model I thought it would be a piece of cake but, I did have some issues, the setup was not quit as easy as my former router but I managed to get it up and going however, could not get the guest option to work on the 2.4 GHz band. After talking to Asus Tech support they confirmed that there what a problem with the firmware. Currently there are several firmware upgrades for this model. I am return this router and upgrading to the AC3200 Tri band...stay tuned for my next review

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Router! Purchased this router because of the 2.4ghz & 5 ghz capabilities.. But also for the processing power which allows it to handle multiple devices streaming video concurrently without buffering, hesitations, or lock ups. My old Belkin router would lock up multiple times per day requiring reboots.. I have not had to restart this router once since receiving it about two weeks ago, and my 5ghz wireless devices are experiencing much quicker downloads and thruput. I am an IT professional, but you don't need to be to set this router up. Very easy setup, just follow the setup docmumentation. You don't need to use the CD. Be sure to allow it to update the firmware when it prompts you during the initial setup. Jesus is King! God Bless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good I am currently upgrading my network equipment and was in need of something that fit my needs. as i am operating my own NAS and seemed to make since with my recent cable modem upgrade. with that being said the device was easy to set up and operate. seem intuative enough for myself and i am new to setting up my own network attached storage. there may be some opportunity around what printers it supports if you are wanting a network printer as well as price point is a little high. thats the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars. other then that it's a great unit and met 95% of my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightening Fast!! East setup I needed a new wifi router to replace my 5+ year old Apple Airport Extrememe that was becoming slow and unreliable. I upgraded to this AC rounter based on test results I found online. I hoped I would notice a difference in speed and range, but I was actually blown away how fast my download/upload speeds became, especially on my AC devices. I have a 3000 SqFt house and the range is excellent. It was a quick setup and the user interface in the admin mode is detailed and easy to use. I love this router and hope it remains fast and reliable, it has yet to drop a connection. I'm sorry I didn't upgrade sooner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! I use the router to run 3 Ethernet connected CPUs, 6 wireless CPUs, 3 apple TVs, 3 smart TVs, 2 ipads, 6 iphones, 3 PS3s, XBOX ONE, Wii U and a handful of other devices including network cameras in a 3,330 SQ foot home. The coverage is complete even though the router is located in one downstairs corner of the house. I get full strength throughout most of my yard as well. The features are endless and so far it has been up for 12 days with no hiccups. Best router I have ever owned!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Largest range of any router I've had I bought this to upgrade my Asus RT-N66U. I have a big house with three floors and my old router had some dead spots around the house. The AC2400 has a great range and reaches all the corners of my house. It seems to be very fast and provide a strong signal. Also, the AC band is much faster and some of my newer devices, like my iPhone 6, can take advantage of it.The AC band is fast, but doesn't have as high a signal strength as the other bands. Also, I only have a 30MB connection to the internet, so for wirelessly accessing the internet, all bands of the router are faster than my internet connection, so there isn't much advantage for the faster speeds.I like the IPV6 support and some of the protection features are nice. All in all, this is a great router.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solved my wifi range problem My problem (before I purchased this router) was range; I had poor wifi speed/signal strength. The router was/is located in extreme corner of a 1500 sq ft house. I previously needed an AC power line ethernet extender so that I could get constant Netflix. I also had an AC power line wifi extender for a laptop computer. The wifi devices were through (three) dry walls and about 40 feet away. Now we get good wifi signal/speed to these devices. Even the 5GHz signal has been reliable and acceptable strength(three bars) with good speed. But there are only two people running a maximum of three wifi clients in the far away room. But after almost a month the new router has been reliable and I do not have to screw around with extenders any more. Also, I am not very technical. This is the first router that set up easily and fast, so I did not have to call ASUS for help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Router Excellent range and speed. Easy setup. While I have not had it for an extended period, it has been stable to date. My house is not large but I have a small outbuilding where I work about 100 feet from the home. I am using a new Amped Wireless range extender in the outbuilding. Originally, in addition to an older Asus router, I was using commercial grade access points between the two buildings and an additional AP unit within my house (total of three). I have reduced the number of devices I need to manage from four to two. The reduced complexity and increased speed is great.
