    GoPro ARMTE-002 reviews

Smart Remote is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Little Add-On As a totally new GoPro user I was enamored with all of the accessories and figured for my application, the Smart Remote would be nice to have. I was correct! It was somewhat easily pared to my camera although the instructions that came with it didn't exactly follow the procedure I did which is nothing new in the world of paring Bluetooth devices. It also can be pared to multiple cameras. In one of my first applications, I had the camera remotely located and simply used the Smart Remote to activate, which would have been a PIA otherwise. It comes with a wrist strap which is nice and a quick disconnect key-ring that is a another great feature that makes carrying the thing easy. About the only negative besides the price is that on certain GoPro models, NOT all camera features are accessible via the remote so check whether this is an issue for your application. For example, Quick Capture, continuous photo with multiple cameras and photo capture while recording video on multiple cameras is NOT accessible with the GoPro4. None of this was an issue for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GoPro Smart Remote is VERY Fragile I have a GoPro Hero3 that I use to record videos while kayaking and kayak fishing. In my opinion the GoPro Smart Remote is expensive for what it is so I was hesitant to purchase it. But I needed a way to turn my GoPro on while in the kayak since my camera is mounted on a post behind me. I purchased the Smart Remote in December, 2015. I used the remote this summer on a handful of fishing and kayaking trips and it seemed to work fine however it will drain your GoPro battery quickly. I wear the remote on my wrist with the wrist strap provided with the remote. On my last fishing trip in August the remote would power on and then immediately shut off. I assumed I did not get it charged even though I had it plugged in overnight. When I got home I plugged the remote in and noticed it would not charge. I got on the Gopro website to troubleshoot this problem and noticed that this is a common problem when using the remote near salt water. The remote are susceptible to corrosion if and they advised to clean the metal tabs with alcohol. When I went to do this I noticed a bunch of little cracks around the screws on the back cover of the remote on the end where the charger plugs in. My initial thought was that I must have hit the remote on something to cause the cracks but keep in mind the back of the remote is against my wrist when I wear it. I also wear a $50 watch on my other wrist and it has lasted through years on kayaking and fishing. I contacted GoPro support to see if 1.) is the damage covered under warranty since it was only eight months old, and 2.) if not covered under warranty can I pay to get the remote fixed? GoPro support (which was foreign) instructed me to send emails and pictures of the remote which I did. They emailed back with what looked to be a canned response (with poor English) asking me to again send the emailed pictures. Which I did again. They sent another canned response (with poor English) stating that the damage was not covered under warranty. Additionally they said they would not fix the remote. Essentially saying it is a disposable product if ever damaged. I asked if I could purchase a new back cover for the remote. They sent another canned response almost identical to the others but stated they would offer me a 20% discount towards a new Remote. I emailed again stating I wasn't going to pay for a new remote that only last a few months and only wanted a new back cover. I have received no response from them since. My experience is that GoPro support is very poor. The bottom line is the Smart remote is not made for use near salt water nor can it handle active use. It is poorly made using fragile plastics and will leak in water. If you plan to use it in these environments I would advise you not to buy it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It will disconnect constantly When it works its fine, but it rarely works. For starters, it only uses WiFi to connect to your GoPro, and my Hero 6 will shut down WiFi and switch to Bluetooth mode after ~10 minutes of being powered down, so after that there's no way to power it back on with the remote. Also, quite often when manually powering up the GoPro the remote will never find it even tho the Remote is clearly searching, and everything is turned on with the GoPro. In such cases I have to manually re-pair the devices which takes a while. In other words, this thing is utterly useless because you still have to do most of the work on the camera to get things going. Once they're going, however, the remote will keep working until the camera turns off for more than a few minutes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Much needed, but not perfect This is a much needed accessory Pros: Durable, compact, can trigger multiple cameras, long operating range Cons: Slow to start Unpredictable: sometimes works, sometimes doesn't (tried on multiple cameras and with more than one remote) Hopefully with the new GoPro Hero4 firmware it will work smoother. So far, it's a mixed bag

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very clean GoPro Smart Remote The Smart Remote was one of the first accessories I bought for my GoPro. I set the camera up on a tripod to do slow motion capture of birds in flight. When I finished, I put the remote in my pocket, broke down the tripod and put everything away. The pants I was wearing and the Smart Remote when into the laundry and through a complete wash and dry cycle. When my wife showed me what was in the dryer, I thought I would need a new remote. I charged it up and everything worked perfectly. I knew GoPro products were rugged, but this was truly impressive performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go Pro Remote I felt this was a good product at a reasonable price. The history of Go Pro quality speaks for itself. The pairing process was very simple and well explained in plain english. I've only tested the remote to put it through it's paces and it seems to work very well. Can't wait to see how it works in the field. I use the GoPro camera strictly on my motorcycles to film rides so I'm excited to see how it all works out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great price on a quality product! The best thing I like about this remote is it lets you see that the camera is recording! I use a go pro on my race helmet and when I hit the record button always wondered if it had began. Now there is no guess work, when you look at the remote on your wrist you will see the numbers clicking up!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It Really Is Smart... Didn't think I would need this, but since I've been wearing my Gopro camera on my helmet a lot lately, it makes turning the camera on and off, much easier. Pros: synchs easily, allows a great deal of functionality without disturbing the camera (great for time lapse), allows you to activate the camera from quite a distance. Cons: like the camera, the screen is tiny, one more battery to charge, rather expensive for a remote, waterproof but doesn't work underwater. All in all, a good edition to my GoPro gear.
