Autodesk MEP overview

Expanding on the core functionality of AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP 2015 from Autodesk features a specialized toolset for designing and documenting mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within a building. New features for the 2015 edition include Project Navigator CheckIn and CheckOut, anchored object preview, EPD backup, color-coded version differentiation, expected linework displays, and a movable Style View tool. This version of the software is a single-user, download license for installation on 32- or 64-bit versions of Windows.

What's New for 2015

Project Navigator CheckOut
CheckOut makes changes outside of the project structure to avoid frequent, unnecessary xref change notifications. It also helps prevent team members from reacting to incomplete temporary changes or tests. No one else can view your changes until the file is checked back into the project structure
Project Navigator CheckIn
When you CheckIn a drawing, it is saved automatically. Team members will be notified of the updated version. Users can add comments to a new file upon CheckIn to ensure team members clearly understand the changes. With automatic saving of multiple backup versions, you can also quickly return to a previous state of a drawing
Anchored Object Preview
Ducts, cable trays, pipes, conduits, and other anchored objects can be viewed as they're moved or rotated
Electric Project Database (EPD) Backup
EPD backup creates multiple copies of previous EPD files to simplify recovery
Color-Coded Version Differentiation
The Visual Compare feature uses color codes to easily spot geometry differences between two versions of the same drawing
Expected Linework Display
Improved section results enable the color of linework to display as expected
Real-Time Change Review
Command Preview allows you to see changes in real time before the command is integrated
Movable Style Viewer
The Style Viewer tool can be moved to the left or right edge of the Style Manager or Edit Style dialog

Reference architectural floor plans developed in AutoCAD-based software for better design, and improve documentation coordination with MEP system designs created in AutoCAD MEP software. Use the referenced architectural floor plans to design, tag, annotate, and create construction documentation of MEP system design
Automatic Space and Zone Calculation
Assign engineering spaces from existing 2D architectural floor plans or AutoCAD Architecture geometric designs. Calculate room measurements automatically, including square footage, meters, and volumes per area. Space and zone information is used when exporting to gbXML for import into Green Building Studio web-based energy analysis service and/or third-party analysis programs
IFC Data Support
Create, manage, and share MEP CAD data with others in the design process with Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) data. IFC export recognizes MEP objects from within AutoCAD MEP and exports them along with MEP Systems and their connectivity to corresponding IFC Building Services entities and types
AutoCAD 360 Mobility
The AutoCAD 360 web and mobile application for AutoCAD MEP lets you view, edit, and share DWG drawings via a web browser or mobile device. Store AutoCAD drawings and project files in an easy-to-access online workspace. View and edit your designs online or on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Share and collaborate more easily with others
Web-Based Help and Learning Tools

Enhanced documentation features help you create, rationalize, and document 2D views. Create 3D models in AutoCAD MEP design software and convert them to 2D for documentation needs. Utilize improvements in the command line with the ability to auto-complete and differentiate commands and system variables. Improve the appearance of your documentation with access to a diverse palette of fonts and colors. Improve drafting and modeling productivity with associative arrays improvements
Integrated Content Search
Search for and access design files, objects, and content from within AutoCAD MEP design software with AutoCAD Content Explorer. You can search local and network drives for files containing content and objects to use within the design environment. AutoCAD Block and Symbol Conversion
Individually convert or batch-convert single or multiple AutoCAD blocks, MvBlocks, or MvParts to a device or schematic symbol. Use routing preferences inside the application with sloped piping and male x female routing. Take advantage of specific piping content created for AutoCAD MEP. Routing preferences support the use of male x female fittings to create more realistic pipe designs

Automated Property Set Definitions
Automatically attach property set definitions to architectural objects to complete quantity takeoff calculations. Also, existing property set definitions can be attached to newly created objects and their styles. New or modified property set definitions can also be attached to existing objects
Annotation and Unit Scaling
When drawing units are changed, object tags, text, and other annotation scaled objects have the expected appearance relative to other objects. In addition, many AutoCAD settings, such as linetype scale, are now properly modified when units are changed. You have the option to rescale model and paper space objects, to rescale only model space objects, or not to rescale any existing objects
Display Order by Layer
Set an order for layers in a list, and apply the display order for objects on each layer. Preview changes to the display order before they are applied to ensure that changes are predictable. Control the way architectural and MEP systems are displayed on construction documents
Block Swap
Edit your components as your design changes. Assign a different definition to block instances without re-creating the block
Point Clouds
Use point cloud data on MEP projects within AutoCAD MEP software. Bring 3D scans to life for renovation, retrofit, and restoration projects. Visualize the points more quickly and snap to the surface of your scanned objects directly within your modeling workspace. Use point cloud data to create existing building conditions for use in MEP project design
