VRED Professional 2015 from Autodesk is visualization software to help automotive designers and engineers create product presentations, design reviews, and virtual prototypes with realistic materials, physical camera settings, engineering tools, and even surface analysis modes. Use Digital Prototyping to visualize your ideas, evaluate your designs, and move from physical to virtual prototypes in real time. On top of all of the modules found in the standard version, the Professional edition adds features including, Oculus Rift support, a VRED app for remote controlling from a smartphone or tablet, a Gap Analysis tool, visual simulation, Alias curvature shader, the ability to synchronize two or more VRED Professional instances, TrueNURBS topology, spectral rendering, subsurface scattering, and more. This copy of the software is a single-user, download license.

Oculus Rift Support
Experience designs with a virtual reality head-mounted display. The Oculus Rift features special distortion lenses that support orientation tracking. Wearing the head-mounted display can immerse you in an auto design evaluation, for example. Use the Oculus Rift in combination with raytracing to evaluate reflection and refraction behavior. VRED App
Remotely control a VRED scene from any mobile device. The VRED app runs on any mobile device connected to the Internet. You can switch variants, navigate through the scene, switch viewpoints, and set render modes
Import Alias Layer Structure
Wire files from Alias industrial design software are now imported with the corresponding layer information, and layers are imported as tags. Retaining the Alias layer structure shortens data preparation time and simplifies your workflow. You can now select objects according to the layer information
Updated User Interface
The new Simple User Interface helps casual users create imagery more quickly. Take advantage of new features such as a scene module, an animation wizard, a render queue function, and an improved quick access bar
Asset Manager
Create predefined asset libraries with the new Asset Manager module. Libraries can contain any kind of scene element such as materials, environments, and external scenes. Store libraries on your enterprise network with read/write permissions set at the file level. Create standardized libraries for each department as well as for your entire company
Camera Collision Detection
Navigate through your virtual space more easily with a camera that can now recognize and avoid colliding objects. This feature is particularly helpful for point-of-sale installations and interactive presentations, as it prevents the camera from going through objects or flying out of the environment
Alias Curvature Shader
Now use the same curvature shader evaluation mode that is available in Alias industrial design software. VRED now renders the curvature shader directly on the NURBS surfaces. This helps you more accurately evaluate surfaces without any tessellation artifacts
Visual Simulation
New visual simulation features help you better understand lighting distribution and let you define color spectrums on a mathematical basis. Look directly into illuminated light sources--for example, light pipes or headlights--using a rayfile as a calculation basis. All effects, such as specular reflections or refractions, are visible and you can see, for example, how pre-simulated rayfiles behave inside a light source. You can now also load Osram and Optis Spectrum files that define color on a wavelength basis. The Luminance tone mapper can display a legend that indicates the light distribution inside a scene. Light specialists can now also define color spectrums on a mathematical basis using Full Width Half Maximum
Physical Camera Settings
The camera module's physical parameters - focal length, shutter speed, f-stop, and depth of field-make elaborate post-processing unnecessary
TrueNURBS
Build your own NURBS topology or rebuild an existing one. TrueNURBS enables you to load the native NURBS data from a CAD model. This information coexists next to the tessellated polygon data

The new Shell Node contains the NURBS shells and patches, and the tessellated polygon data is stored on top of it. You can interactively re-tessellate the meshes for better polygon quality, and you can re-topologize an existing scenegraph structure

You can now instantly switch between polygon OpenGL rendering and direct NURBS raytracing rendering. A/B side rendering enables you to set visible or invisible parts. This is an often-used flag during the modeling process to differentiate between visible and invisible parts
Spectral Rendering
Achieve color correctness with spectral rendering, and capture realistic dispersion effects with wavelength-based spectral rendering. An intuitive Spectral Plot Editor in the Color dialog box provides both freedom and precision. You can define arbitrary spectral distributions to achieve creative rendering effects, and manually fine-tune radiometrically measured data for technical purposes. Wavelength-based spectral rendering enables you to capture realistic dispersion effects--to evaluate lighting behavior for headlights and rear lights, for example. Use Photonmapping and caustic effects to calculate realistic prismatic color
Measured Materials
Use measured materials to visualize realistic material behavior based on captured material data. AxF (Appearance Exchange Format), the new appearance file format from X-Rite, combines measured bidirectional texture function and bidirectional reflectance distribution information. With AxF, a single file stores the entire appearance of a material--such as diffuse color, specularity, and bump--in order to visualize realistic material behavior

Data Preparation and Navigation

Integrated File Converter
Import a wide variety of file formats with the integrated DirectConnect CAD converter.

One of the key strengths of VRED is that it can handle very large data sets. This makes it ideal for visualizing full engineering data sets with minimal data preparation and optimization requirements
GeometryEditor
Set surface normals and split objects according to specific degrees with the GeometryEditor. The phong geometry subdivision helps you get a smooth silhouette even when your tessellation is insufficient. Also, the improved normal calculation leads to better results when your imported model does not provide vertex normals
Scripting API and Command Terminal
Use the scripting API and interactive command terminal to make extensive customizations to VRED Professional. You can also use the scripting features of VRED Professional to customize VRED Design, but just in read-only mode

Evaluation Workflows

Measurement, Grid, and Ruler Tools
Accurately evaluate model size and proportions. VRED includes tools that help you measure in 3D space, plus a reference grid and ruler to provide context

Presentation

Animation Module
Create keyframe animations interactively in real time. Simulate motion sequences and produce moving images. Animations implemented in FBX format are preserved as animation blocks during import and export. You can copy and paste animations to other objects, which makes it easy to adapt repeated movements for multiple uses
Variants and VariantSets
Present different configurations of your 3D model using Variants and VariantSets. You can summarize and store components, assigned materials, and more as predefined variants. Deposit different product components and configurations and save them directly in a data set--in order to activate them via a mobile device, for example. VariantSets enable you to combine and arrange several variants of a scene. You can assign each variant a user-defined key and quickly switch between the available variants of the data set
Display Options
VRED Professional supports CAVE display and motion tracking to enable immersive experiences. The Display Cluster module enables multi-workstation display output--to support, for example, multisegment powerwall displays
Conferencing and Collaboration
Synchronize two or more VRED Professional instances to show the same scene. The Conferencing module enables you to remotely collaborate with others on the same reference model. Use a synched virtual mouse pointer to transfer interaction control. Your data is safe because the communication is encrypted with design data that is stored locally on each collaboration site

Rendering

Multiple Rendering Modes
Take advantage of a wide range of rendering modes that deliver different levels of display quality and speed. With VRED Design and VRED Professional, you can switch between OpenGL and Raytracing mode by pressing a button - there's no need to modify your materials. And in the Raytracing mode in VRED Professional, you can switch between various modes - including Pre-Computed Illumination and Full Global Illumination with Photonmapping - without needing to change any scene parameters
Render Passes and Render Layer
For additional post-processing, you can export your render passes for further adaptions in separate image processing software. The Render Layer module offers many options for dividing your 3D environment into matching image planes while rendering. Set up alpha channels interactively, and define attributes for reflectivity and refractions for every object. You can also define shadow settings individually for every object
Sequencer
Organize complex batch processes and execute them sequentially, on a single machine or in a CPU cluster environment

Visual Setup

Realistic Materials
Use a wide range of photorealistic material types such as glass, car paint, and metal. Just add the material to the geometry, and 3D models are visualized photorealistically within seconds. Each shader is defined according to physical material attributes, and you can also copy and paste material attributes such as diffuse, glossy, and bump
Powerful Lighting Options
Use HDR lighting to illuminate an entire scene with a high-dynamic-range picture. Capture the lighting information from a photograph and cast it onto 3D space. Every object within a scene can be defined as a source for object light. VRED also supports area lights
Clipping Module
Use 3D clipping on digital data, polygons, and even on native NURBS data. The clipping module helps you evaluate 3D models by creating cross sections of geometries without manipulating the geometry itself
Analytic Rendering Modes
Analyze 3D surface shape, quality, and continuity. Access multiple analytical rendering modes, including isophotes and zebra stripes
Gap Analysis Tool
Evaluate the fit between adjacent surfaces with the Gap Analysis tool
Annotations
Attach annotations directly to a 3D model during an interactive review. You can edit a comment's color and content at any time and during any stage of a review. This helps create a better communication workflow throughout the evaluation process
Layered Glass Material
Single-sided objects can have a simulated thickness in order to achieve the appropriate index of refraction (IOR). Window surfaces are usually imported as single-sided surfaces, but now the glass material can simulate thickness for a proper IOR. When you enable this option, VRED simulates a solid geometry to render the appropriate IOR
Subsurface Scattering
Accurately simulate the translucent behaviors of materials such as skin, milk, wax, and plastic
