    Nissin I40 reviews

i40 Compact Flash for Fujifilm Cameras is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent product I bought this darlin' little flash to use with my Fuji X cameras. I am very pleased with its performance: quick recharge of the capacitor, adequate flash output for its size, well-functioning reflector card and defuser. Another thoughtful touch is the included Stofen-like diffuser, stand, case and clip, i.e. almost everything and anything you may need. This flash provides TTL function on the hotshoe or with a Canon hotshoe extension cord. Until Fuji wisens up and makes similar or better flashes (yes, I have their EF-X2 flash)this Nissin flash is, IMHO, the best available product for Fuji X cameras. Needless to add, but I will anyways, B+H service is second to none. Happy flashing!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fine Small Unit But ... This unit is close to perfect for my Fuji XT-1 system. Works as designed on camera and off as slave, has sufficient power, is relatively simple to use, automatically sets itself with on camera zoom lenses, etc. The small size is particularly useful. One caveat is that the unit does not support HSS yet (except as a hack in manual mode). Assuming Fuji will address this with a firmware update, there's no direct path to then update the flash firmware assuming this is necessary) without sending the unit off to a Nissin service facility. Aside from this I cannot anything but praise for the unit and recommend it highly for Fuji X camera users.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad; not great Decent flash for a small kit. I use this on the Fujifilm X100T. First, I think it is overpriced. Should be about $ cheaper. I get shadow cast from my lens hood when on camera, even in bounce. Head is too small so the plus of this things size is also a weakness. Another drawback, and I think a major one is the flash is very, very difficult to mount and unmount on the hotshoe on the X100T. I fear I will one day destroy the flash head trying to remove the flash from the shoe. I like th flash for what it is, but it has too many flaws to be worth the money asked for it. Hold out until (if) Fujifilm releases a speedlight system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent with my Fuji X-A1 I compared this directly in store with the EF-42 before buying the Nissin i40. The Nissin flash is much nicer than the Fuji. The dedicated dials are great. The flash is well built. It was also smaller and lighter than the Fuji flash and doesn't feel as cheap either. Recharge time is very quick. I can pretty much recompose and fire again with new batteries. The TTL works on camera and also works off camera with the Nissin TTL cable I purchased for Cannon/Fuji cameras. I also successfully used it as a wireless slave flash with my X-A1 in commander mode, but note that I had to set the flash to film slave rather than digital. Totally has lived up to my expectations and I now have off camera TTL flash for my X-A1 and it also happens to be a nice flash itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little flash for Fuji X cameras I love my Fuji XT-1, XE-1, and X100s, but external flash options from Fuji have been pretty mediocre at best. When I heard that Nissin was developing a version of their little i40 flash for Fuji X cameras I could hardly wait since I use flash often around the house when photographing family and especially a fast moving 3 year old grand daughter. While I have only had mine a few weeks and so the longevity and durability remain to be seen, I am so far very pleased. I use mine in TTL mode all the time (so far) and in the hotshoe of my XT-1. Surprisingly, the little flash can light up a decent sized room and the included Stofen-Like diffuser cap actually allows the use of my Fuji 10-24 mm lens at 10mm with minimal light fall-off at the edges of the frame. Nice! Build quality seems decent compared to my Canon 580 EX II units and the controls of the little i40 could not be easier to figure out. The head can swivel a full 360 degrees...even better than the Canons. Power output is quite good, and recycle time is quick with Eneloop rechargeable AA's. Price may be a little high, but then, you get what you pay for, I suppose. All in all, not much to dislike about this great little unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Finally TTL Flash for your Fuji camera! I have an Fuji X-t1(yes it is perfectly compatible with it) and have been longing for this flash to arrive. I use TTL on camera flash only when I am on the move or shooting an event. This flash is small (proportional to the camera body) powerful enough to get the job done and the dial controls are very intuitive and quick to adjust. It is pretty well built however the hinged swiveling head looks and feels more flimsy than it actually is. It isn't as sold as say a canon 600ext-rt (my go to flashes) but I am very pleased so far. I doubt I would buy more than one of these as going off camera you lose TTL and need a wireless trigger anyway. There are less expensive solutions for that. Oh yes there is a built-in video light but It doesn't do much except in very low light over short distances to your subject

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect match for Fuji X The perfect size for my XT-1. TTL works flawlessly, and I love the dial for exposure compensation, I do wish however is was a lot stiffer to prevent accidental movement. The ability to dial manual exposure down to 1/256 power is awesome and welcome as I often shoot wide open and was not able to dial my old unit down enough. I'm very happy with it so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does everything I want in a small packag This unit is nice and small, comes with a small foot-stand with standard sized thread for attaching a tripod foot, a built in bounce card on the top, and an external attaching diffuser. Also includes a nice carrying case to hold all your accessories + space for batteries. TBH this is the first external flash unit I've owned, so take my review with a large grain of salt, but it does 2 types of optical syncing, plus the TTL on Fuji works fine, and of course manual mode. I love the mode and power dials. Can't imagine using a digital display and push buttons to wade through menus on an LCD. I would deduct half a star if I could for the awkward control of the zoom, and lack of 3/8 jack, but those are minor in my (somewhat limited) opinion. Price is reasonable for someone like me on a budget!
