The AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II Lens from Nikon is a general-purpose DX format zoom lens featuring a retractable barrel for a compact, lightweight design. The lens has a zoom range of 18-55mm, equivalent to 27-82.5mm in the 35mm format, which makes it useful in a wide variety of shooting conditions. The retractable design makes it easier to store and carry than standard lenses.

The lens utilizes a Silent Wave Motor for quiet, quick autofocusing and also features Nikon's Vibration Reduction II image stabilization. This technology optically stabilizes the image to reduce the blur caused by camera shake and movement, providing the equivalent of up to 4 additional shutter speed stops. The elements of the lens feature a Super Integrated Coating that nearly eliminates ghosting and reduces flaring, maintaining a crisp, high contrast image throughout the frame.

For general shooting, this lens features a minimum focusing distance of 9.8" in manual focus mode and 11" in autofocus mode. It has a 52mm filter thread for attaching filters and accessories.

A versatile DX format zoom lens providing wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives with a 35mm focal length equivalence of 27-82.5mm.
A very compact and lightweight build makes this an effective camera for travel and everyday carry. A retractable lens barrel further enables easy storage and transport.
Nikon's Vibration Reduction II image stabilization reduces the blur caused by camera shake providing the equivalence of 4 shutter speed stops of added light for sharper images in dim light and when shooting handheld.
The Silent Wave Motor provides fast, smooth and near-silent autofocus action, particularly important when shooting video.
Super Integrated Coating applied to lens elements improves light transmission and reduces ghosting and flare.
Minimum focusing distance is 11" from focal plane, but can reach 9.8" in manual focus mode.
Works on FX-format cameras in DX crop mode.

AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II Lens is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a bad little lens I previously wrote a review on my purchase of this lens based on my initial reaction to using it, which wasn't a very good experience. I really don't know what happened because the images didn't focus very well. I tried again today, and was pleasantly surprised. I used a smaller f-stop, f/11, and the images were crisp and the color was rich. I have decided that this will be a good walk around lens. The moderate zoom capability will come in handy, and the VR is something that I will definitely be able to take advantage of. The VR is truly effective, and contributes to the sharpness of the images. This is truly a handy little lens to have in your kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An inexpensive gem I needed a more versatile lens for my D7000 body as I gave the original kit lens away. I needed something inexpensive and wider than the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX that normally lives on my camera. The optical quality and the VR effectiveness is truly surprising, especially considering the price. Of course the subject has to be STILL in relation to the camera but it's extremely effective in quelling unsteady hands. On top of this, this lens is extremely light and compact. I highly recommend this sleeper of a lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Diamond In The Rough! I bought and owned the Nikon 35mm F/1.8 from B&H months ago and I loved that lens. However, I sold it because I wanted to reach back to my old school 18-55mm range. I know..this is a kit lens, but hear me out. This lens is sharper then the Nikon 35mm and 50mm F/1.8 models. I don't see a lot of chromatic aberration either. The colors are nice and contrast isn't heavy. This lens is built solid and has a good balance on my D7100. This lens is killer for price and range, but it's a slow lens due to F/3.5-5.6. That's the only negative aspect I've experienced with it. If light isn't an issue...keep this lens if you received it in a bundle or buy it if you want an excellent lens in the 18-55mm range. Overall...I'm thrilled with this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light and Excellent for the Price Bought this as a walk-around lens for my D7200 which I got body-only. After shooting a whole day with the 18-200 VR II as a trial I knew I wanted something much lighter for an everyday lens. This lens is sharp, easy to use, has absolutely zero focus kickback and eye-blow. Images are very sharp with the help of VR II. Did I mention it weighs nothing? A steal for what you get, replace it if you break it. Sometimes I forget to unlock the lens, with the locking this thing gets so small it's worth having. Camera will tell me if I forget.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Surprised to learn this is not a top of the linelens When this lens came without a pouch or hood and had only a soft plastic rear cap, I asked on a photography forum whether I should be concerned about other corners having been cut. Several participants referred me to reviews and blogs saying that the D-series lenses were notably inferior to the G-series. Not sure if that is true and in any case there was no G-series in this focal length, so I have no regrets, but do think Nikon is sending the wrong signal by making us pay extra for what had been included and that cheesey rear cap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all around lens I bought this to replace my usual lens which is the AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lens. I wanted the VR and decided to spend the extra bucks on the VRII (latest incarnation). First off, the lens feels a lot more solid and better made. I give it 4 stars (not 5), but not because of the optics or VR. The lens is still made with a plastic mount, but for the price, I am not surprised. I have used the lens in various test situations and although the internet ratings were so-so, I find the lens quite sharp and more than adequate for the price. Feels a lot more solid than my other lens. Also, I was very disappointed in Nikon for not including the lens hood which I had to pay an extra $$for. Lens is light and easy to use. VRII excellent. Optics are Very good. Build quality very good (for this type of lens). Did not notice any lens creep, zoom was quick and solid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outperformer I chose this lens over both the 16x85 and the 18x140 to pair with my new d7200 as my walk around lens. I believe that within its range it offers superior clarity, macro performance and ergonomics. Plastic mount? Who really cares. Cheap cost? Yeah sure, why not? The lens delivers in spades and I feel the joy I used to feel with my M Leica, but updated to digital. Go for it and send it back to B&H if you dont agree...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly good I picked this up on sale as just a beater lens but after using it I even bought a bag for it. It might be the sharpest kit lens I ever used. I love this thing. The lock took a while to get used to but thats it.
