Expand your listening horizons with the black A-S801 Integrated Amplifier from Yamaha. Featuring up to 120W per channel of RMS power at 6 ohms, this amp is equipped with digital inputs for connecting devices like televisions and Blu-ray/DVD players. The A-S801 sports a USB input and a 32-bit ESS Sabre Premier Audio digital-to-analog converter for playing DSD and PCM files stored on your PC. This amplifier offers dual stereo outputs, giving you the ability to power two sets of speakers in different rooms and switch between them, or have them both playing at the same time. To increase the bass output of your sound system, there's also a terminal for connecting a subwoofer.

To reduce distortion and degradation and produce the cleanest possible sound, the A-S801 employs Pure Direct mode and CD Direct mode. Activated via buttons on the front of the unit, these modes cause input signals to bypass unused circuits and cuts off those circuits' power supply. To further ensure quality sound, the amplifier's continuously variable loudness control allows you to balance low and high frequency sounds so you can hear a full tonal range at any volume.

Built to be energy efficient, the amp uses a power management system to switch itself to idle mode when not in use. The A-S801's internal circuitry mirrors itself symmetrically to produce higher signal purity and lower degradation. The chassis is reinforced with a solid center bar to reduce vibration and features a brushed aluminum front panel and knobs. The system comes with a remote control for easy operation.

32-Bit USB Digital-to-Analog Converter
The USB-connected ESS Sabre Premier Audio Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) supports native 32-bit PCM and DSD resolutions on Windows PCs (24-bit on Mac), allowing for a direct connection to computer-based high-resolution audio files. The USB device controller has its own master clock that eliminates PC jitter, and the USB driver is designed for low loss and high throughput. A 2-channel D/A converter is housed inside the chip which applies a double differential operation. During playback, indicators on the front panel show which sampling frequencies are currently being used.
Digital Audio Input
The A-S801 is equipped for digital audio inputs with an optical and digital coaxial input terminal. The optical is for receiving audio from a TV and the coaxial for receiving audio from a DVD/Blu-ray player. These inputs eliminate the need for conversion from digital audio to analog out, thus maintaining signal quality.
CD Direct Mode
Engaged by a front panel switch, it matches CD signal levels so each stage produces less noise, resulting in improved signal-to-noise ratio and maintenance of the amp's total gain balance.
Pure Direct Mode
The Pure Direct mode causes the music signals to travel the shortest possible circuit route, bypassing the buffer amp and the tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality.
Continuously Variable Loudness Control
The A-S801 features an analog loudness control on the front panel which lets you adjust the loudness effect as desired. Separate from the overall volume, this controls the balance of the low- and high-frequency sounds, providing full tonal range at any volume level, compensating for the natural loss in the human ear of high and low frequencies at soft levels.
Direct Symmetrical Design
This amplifier's left and right channels are organized in a straight, symmetrical layout for limiting distortion and increasing signal purity.
Anti-Resonance Chassis
The base of the A-S801's chassis is reinforced with a solid center bar to increase rigidity support and vibration damping, which limits resonance.
Dual System Capable
You can connect two separate speaker systems in different rooms and switch between them or have them both play at the same time by switching the dial on the front of the unit.
Gold-Plated Terminals
The A-S801 has gold-plated speaker and input terminals, which ensure a high quality connection and reduce signal loss.
Phono MM Terminal
You can connect a turntable with an MM phono cartridge to play vinyl records, allowing you to enjoy records in addition to modern media sources.
Auto Power Standby Function
This amplifier puts itself into standby mode when it detects that it hasn't been used in approximately 8 hours, minimizing power consumption.
Remote Control
Control your music from afar with the included remote, finished to match the design of the amplifier. The remote comes with batteries and can also be used to control a Yamaha CD player.
Connection for Bluetooth Wireless Adapter
With the optional YBA-11 Bluetooth Wireless Adapter, you'll be able to stream music wirelessly from a Bluetooth capable mobile phone or a PC to the network receiver. This amplifier features a DC-out connection on the rear panel to power the adapter.
Rotary Encoder Input Selector
The rotary encoder makes it quick and easy to select input sources, and the LEDs clearly show which source is selected so you can easily switch between them, even in a dark room.

Does anyone know why the 801 disables the Line 2 Out when the Line 2 In is selected? Same with the Line 3 Out and Line 3 In? It's in the manual, so I know they must have had a reason for doing it. Thanks for any help.
Asked by: William
According to page 10 in the manual for the Yamaha A-S801; The Rec Out jacks are disabled when the Line Inputs 2 & 3 are being used. I am not sure why Yamaha would design their receiver with this function. I would surmise that it is perhaps to protect against copying copywritten content from a CD player for example, or another consumer device with line outputs.

Asked by: Stan
If the equalizer is between the input and the amp, you can run input to the equalizer, then use equalizer as input by COAX, OPTICAL, USB, or Lines 1, 2, or 3.

Previous answer about 15" speakers inadequate. Would this unit support Pioneer CS-99A speakers?
Asked by: Stephen
I would question the earlier answer. "Power Handling" means the maximum power that should be used with the speakers. The Yamaha is 100 watts per channel into 8 ohm, so that's a match. And the speakers are 97 decibels efficiency, which is VERY high. Those speakers could probably be sufficiently driven was a 20 wpc amp! I'd say the Yamaha would be more than a match for those speakers. I wouldn't want to overpower vintage speakers, you might blow a driver.
