Easy peasy dark and well...

Used this for the home theater ceiling. Had pro painters roll it on. Applied 2 coats of very dark gray primer, 2 coats of Rosco. Looks fantastic. Note that it is thick so don't apply much pressure when rolling or you get noticeable lines.

What a dream to work with

It's like a liquid black hole coming off your paintbrush and onto your wall. It's relatively thin but very easy to work with and coats well. You don't have to worry about feathering out or leaving hard lines and going back over them. As long as it's on thick enough it will blend together perfectly well. It dries with a slight texture to it, almost like a truck bed lining. Best on smooth surfaces. If you're looking for the blackest black paint out there, look no further. If you asked me how much more black this paint could be my answer would be "none. None more black." Will definitely purchase again.

Excellent effect!

This stuff is pretty amazing. At least a couple shades blacker/less reflective than the blackest paint Home Depot sells. When it first came I could not get it mixed enough myself, who knows how long the stuff sits before it ships. I had to take the can to a paint store where they shook it for me. Only thing blacker is black velvet upholstered walls.

This paint is perfect for a theater room with a projector. I highly recommend this over any other paint that you would buy at a paint store. It's like painting on tar, dont use a sprayer!!!

Excellent quality. Great Coverage, no splatter.

I purchased this paint to cover the walls in several video sets. The paint has excellent reflective quality for video taping, the technician told me it made an enormous difference when they filmed with this compared to the previous wall paint. It applied evenly, splatter free and coverage was excellent. I could easily have satisfactorily covered over the previous paint with one coat. Great product, thank you.

The best paint for home theater but beware of smudges

I previously painted my theater walls with Rosco Super saturated paint but this paint is darker (when viewed in a dark room with the video display/projection screen activated). In order to properly evaluate the different levels of black it is necessary to watch content on your projection screen of flat panel display in a completely dark room. This is noticeable darker than the Rosco Super saturated but the super saturated comes in a close second. The only downside is that finger / hand rubs on the surface will create a light smudge on the wall. But the paint is so dark that it is hard to see the smudges unless you have a very bright light source in the room. In my opinion, if you don't have kids or the kids are older so that there will not be constant hand touches it is worth it for painting an area you want as dark as possible.

Purchased this for a garage photo studio after working with Rosco TV White paint at work. Happy with the color but you need to really stir the paint quite a bit before using it. Probably should take it in somewhere to get the van shook.

Good color for back wall of small studio? I'm thinking of painting three sides black, and the back wall TV White (because I'd like a light gray wall to shoot on). Can't tell how gray the TV white is.
Asked by: Brian
The paint can look a little grey to the eye, but is calibrated to look white on camera.

question

Is this the right product to use to turn a wall into a projector screen?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, what you are looking for is screen goo. Also, the wall needs to be sanded and finished to a level exceeding typical specifications, so often a fixed frame screen is just as cost effective.

How would this work for the ceiling of a home theater? I assume it is very flat, not gloss.

This works excellent for your application. I painted about 10 feet of my ceiling and walls of my home theater around the projection screen. Amazing the difference between the Home Depot Flat Black and this product. It actually seems to absorb the light.
