Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 overview

  • 1Description

The silver Fujifilm X mount Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye II Lens is a prime fisheye lens specifically designed for APS-C sized image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm and full 180° angle of view, this lens is well-suited for creative applications as well as interior and architectural subjects. Its fast f/2.8 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions.

Three extra-low dispersion elements and two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion in order to produce sharper images. Additionally, the lens' design features a built-in lens hood and a UMC coating has been applied to the lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

180° fisheye lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 12mm, making it ideally suited for interior and architectural subjects.

Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 reviews

8mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye II Lens for Fujifilm X Mount (Silver) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievably Great! Ordered this lens for some specific uses / shoots I had coming up. Did research and found this brand / model to be the best for my Fujifilm cameras. This exceeded my expectations to say the least. I was skeptical on owning / using a manual focus lens in this day and age autofocus. But what I found was that being such a wide angle lens and the distance from subject I'd be shooting, I ALMOST didn't have to change the manual focus anyway. Bottom line regarding focus - this baby is TACK SHARP! Highly recommended! (see user photograph herein)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 8mm f/2.8 on a Fujifilm X-e2 camera I got this to use with my Fujifilm X-e2 camera for night time photography, specifically to shoot the milky way. I am very pleased with the clarity of this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Most Fun! This is one of my favorite lenses. For context, I have shot the 14mm f2.8, the 27mm pancake, and the 35mm f2. I nearly bought the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm but decided to buy this fisheye instead because it's smaller, and I thought the extra width could add some fun drama to my images. I am so happy with my decision. I even use this as a general lens for street and family. Don't worry about manually focusing this lens. Keep the aperture at f8 and everything will remain sharp. I only open it to f2.8 for astro photography, which it handles beautifully. My favorite way to shoot with this lens is with 1:1 (square) framing. It cuts off the extremely distorted sides and gives the image a wide, yet subject-centric, look. Only con is for flash users. The attached lens hood casts a long shadow when using a flash, so I simply do not use a flash with this lens. Definitely buy this fisheye if you're thinking about it. I bought the silver version because the X-mount versions come with a wide silver ring at the base. It looks good on my black X-E2s.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Lens I am using this lens on a Fuji X-Mount camera. I typically set the lens aperture to f/4 and set focus to Infinity, which kicks in around 3.5 feet. With this set up, I can shoot 98% of my shots without further adjustment! In fact, I wrapped electrical tape around the lens to prevent accidental movement away from these settings. So, - Image Quality - in center of photo - excellent! Sharp edges on objects. - Image Quality - at edges - good. The part of the image that is at the edge of the photo is typically farther away than the main subject and of course it won't look at sharp. Also, I have not found chromatic fringing. - Exposure - essentially excellent. Some photos might be enhanced by an EV of +2/3 or by post editing. However, most photos are good right out of camera. - Color saturation - Excellent - you're in Fuji territory! - Focusing speed - not a problem for me - I don't rapid fire one photo after another with a fisheye lens. This is the third Rokinon Fisheye I have own, the other two having the slower f/3.5 aperture. The f/3.5 Rokinon fisheye gives a very good fisheye effect but the overall softness of the image left me wanting. And I often found myself shooting at f5.6 or f8 to get sharpness. The newer f/2.8 version not only gives you a brighter lens, but the image quality is noticeably better than its predecessor. Images are crisper, showing more detail. If you already own the f/3.5 version, I feel that it's worth upgrading to the f/2.8 model. Attached photos: Mural - 1/2700 sec, f4, ISO 200 Banner - 1/3000 sec, f4, ISO 400

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I'm a architectural photographer, I don't use a fisheye very often but when I used this one I was so surprised be the quality! Very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun lens I was a Nikon shooter since 1995 but on 2018 I moved to Fujifilm with a XT-2 that gave me again the joy to shoot. I bought this fisheye during my last trip in NYC and I used it with fun during my week shooting mainly in small places (pubs, bars, diners...) but also to have some fun shoot of the city landscape as alternative to the wide angle (I also have a 10-24 f/4). Again, really fun, sharp, less distorted than I was expecting. HIghly suggested!
