    Brother MFC-L2740DW reviews

MFC-L2740DW All-in-One Monochrome Laser Printer is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 808.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installs Quickly, works Reliably, operates cheaply I purchased this monochrome Brother MFC-2740DW laser jet printer to replace two color ink jet printers: Both color inkjet printers, although inexpensive to purchase, were expensive to operate. The Brother printer works well and interfaces easily with my OS X iMac, Windows XP, and Windows 7 laptops, using both Ethernet and WiFi communication media. Besides, I'm still on my "starter" toner cartridge. I've reviewed my printing needs and most of my printing is text so monochrome is good enough for me. If I need color hard copy, say of photos or presentation slides, I'll place my files on a thumb drive and use the services of a professional print shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Duplex and AirPrint/GooglePrint/iPrint For me, this Brother MFC-L2740dw is an upgrade from the awesome MFC-7820N. The L2740dw prints and scans 2-sided pages. The touchscreen display makes setup a breeze and has many options to customize. The latest software is available on the Brother-usa website that can detect the OS version of your computer. A printed Basic Guide is included; but if needed, the online user guide is more extensive. I plugged the cat5 cable from the old MFC to the new and it recognized the wireless network. AirPrint-compatible. It seems louder than the 7820n but there is an option to turn the sound down. B&H had a great sale price and UPS delivered quickly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Buy I have had this product for over 4 weeks now. Have not been able to send and receive Faxes. Called Brother Service on Two occasions to try and figure out what was wrong was able to get it to work once (1 time) then it would lock up. and not send or receive again. The help line persons were very helpful but in the end they told me to contact the phone company that it was the phone line. I find that hard to believe since this was a replacement for a fax that was used for 7 years. So I just bought another FAX machine and it work fine. Also was unable to get this unit to network with any of the other computers. This is a real lemon. DO NOT BUY.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from connectivity problem I bought this product in February, 2015 and configured it to work with my iMac (OS10.10) through my Airport Extreme wireless network. I was able to connect to the MFC, but the MFC was unable to hold the connection. When I tried to print, I would get the message "printer is not connected." After calling Brother and working through efforts to fix the problem, I finally got the printer working with my wife's laptop, but not with my iMac. I was told that the problem had been identified as a firmware problem, and that a firmware update would be available in late July or early August. It's August 17 and I have received no firmware update.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed The installation was pretty straightforward. It set up on network easily. Installed software and drivers on my MacBook Pro and HP laptop. Updated the latest printer software on the printer. The copy and scan functions are great for home use. Have not had any printing jams. However, I keep having problems with the printer going offline. Every time I want to print something, I have to turn the printer off then back on so it can be found by the computer. The problem seems to be more pronounced on the MacBook than the HP. Don't seem to find any solutions on Brother's support site. If it were not for the print and scan quality, would not give this product even one star.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big Mistake Entire unit had to be replaced due to single sheet feed option not functioning properly.Single sheet option is cumbersome to operate; there is no support for holding envelopes or labels when printing multiple copies; must open rear of machine to obtain printed envelopes. Very awkward setup. Plus, singe sheet issue not totally resolved with new unit. Also, printing issues re smudges; resolution involves customer to return drum and toner separately, this after sending a complete new unit minus drum and toner for inspection, thus leaving customer without printing capabilities. Great way to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All in one - all I could ask! This is a SoHo device. I bought it because it literally does everything: copy, fax, scan, duplex (two sides), wireless everything, scan to mobile devices. It sleeps silently, warms up quickly, prints rapidly; and the output looks great. Some have complained (on reviews) that it's noisy. I think its sound level is appropriate. It's a true laser (toner, not ink) which is a plus; and it's not massive, so it fits well into my space. It scans color docs; but prints only in b&w. It replaces an older MFC which I retired to go wireless and donated to a local charity. My experience with these devices is they last and perform well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid MFC - Networking could be improved Your MFC-L2740DW is a really well designed multi function monochrome printer. It's fast and setup was mostly easy. The one thing you could improve can probably be accomplished with a firmware upgrade. Currently it's impossible to activate networking on the NIC and Wifi simultaneously. This means in environments where there's a wired network infrastructure it's impossible to take advantage of direct wifi printing from phones and tablets. If you could rewrite the firmware so both the NIC and the WIfi hardware could take separate DHCP IP addresses, you could probably activate both connections! Please give it a try. It would be a welcome improvement.
