Canon SX60 HS reviews

PowerShot SX60 HS Digital Camera is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 105.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Specs Poor Image Quality I bought this camera because I was really impressed by the specs and the 65x optical zoom and I needed a compact camera for wildlife photography. I was really disappointed by the image quality. The images are not sharp and they seem that they were taken using a 10yr old cheap 5MP camera. I tried using a tripod, shooting RAW (and edit on photoshop) but I gave up. The specs are great but the camera does not deliver. Poor low light performance and slow focus at the high focal end. My Canon G16 takes way better photos. I even called Canon and complained about the SX60. I finally sold it. The SX50 is a much better (and cheaper) camera.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Worthy of Its Name I had owned the SX40--loved it, the SX50--loved it even more and now I own the SX60--dislike it. The first SX60 I ordered worked for awhile and then quit focusing all together. I returned it to B&H and they promptly sent me another one. And that one has trouble focusing--sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. But the annoying problem I have with this camera is its poor stabilizer. The SX50 took clear photos even with a little shake while shooting. Not so with my SX60. Just a little shake while using the zoom and I get blur. I sold my SX50 to a friend. Now, do I buy another SX50 or wait until the newer model is released? Such quandaries.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worthwhile upgrades from the SX50hs I use this camera primarily for nature and landscape photography, and have previously used the SX30 and 50. This camera and the SX50 share most features, but the addition of a microphone input finally made this a viable camera for shooting short videos. I also appreciate the new location of the shortcut button and the grippier texture of the exterior. It is a little more comfortable and feels lighter than its predecessor. I also use an intervalometer and shoot time-lapse with this camera. While the aperture range is somewhat limited for this, the full manual option does allow me to create good time-lapse movies in reasonably consistent light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camera even for an old guy. I am a 76 year old novice photo enthusiast. Got interested a few years back and went through the Canon choices from the SX110 to the SX130 to the SX500, and now to the brand new SX60. I take lots of bird and wildlife photos and only use hand held cameras. In most wildlife situations there is little time for setting up tripods etc. At first I was a little concerned about the increase in weight and found it somewhat difficult holding the camera steady while shooting small birds at a distance, but am now very comfortable with it. The 65 optical zoom is fantastic and allows me to capture images that were previously beyond my range. I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking to photo similar subjects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Impressed! Shooting at 65-times optical handheld requires an excellent immage stabilization system and this camera succeedes and it is even very capable when shooting handheld at digital 2-times maximum opitcal. Love the wi-fi very much too. And of course the photos need to be sharp & clear that they are. The 'Getting Started' manual is just that. It is so much better to download the complete manual from Canon. I feel that to rate it 5 stars I need to have enough experience with it as regards its functional reliability that I won't have until perhaps the end of the year so 4 stars for now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from limited aperture, great quick shooter I own a few DSLRs and enjoy being able to switch lenses to achieve the perfect view point for the scene. It is also a limiting factor and means I have to travel with a bag just for the camera, and take a few seconds to switch lenses depending on what I need to shoot.Recently I went to Yosemite as a chaperone. I knew that while hiking with a bunch of teenagers I won't have time to switch lenses and still capture the moments, so I researched a quick shot camera, and found the SX60. I enjoyed it very much during the trip, missed my lenses only a few times and ended up with great team photos. would recommend this as a secondary camera for such occasions. I didn't appreciate not being able to use the viewfinder when the LCD is switched On. You have to choose one or the other and that's not cool because you can't use the viewfinder and then preview the image. Maybe there is an override setting so I'll pull the manual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic camera! Love it!!! I started out this summer taking pictures of bluebirds in my yard with an old Kodak camera and I've enjoyed it so much but didn't have the zoom I needed and I also wanted crisp clear prints. I tried the Canon SX 530 but couldn't keep it steady enough to get good pictures and the zoom wasn't far enough. I had wanted the Canon SX 60 but didn't want to pay $500 for it. B&H ran an open box special for $399 and I ordered it. This camera is everything and more than I wanted. Beautiful colorful prints, easy to use, I love this camera. Thanks B&H!! Your service was fantastic too!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Interestin camera for creative photogs After sx40, 50, now 60. Fun to use camera with enormous zoom in compact format, RAW image capabilities for excellent results in post processing. Perfect Travel camera. Leave your pro gear home if you go to family vacation. Nice 21mm wide lens with enormous 65x zoom. Stunning image stabilization in photo and video mode. Very good menu and controls layout- better than SX50. Hand grip is solid and stable. One minor problem- would be nice to have thread for filters instead of bayonet lock.
