Sony MDR1A overview

  • 1Description

The black Sony MDR-1A Premium Hi-Res Stereo Headphones use 40mm Aluminum coated Liquid Crystal Polymer (ALCP) dynamic drivers to deliver a frequency response that Sony indicates extends from 3 to 100,000 Hz, making them suitable for reproducing the information found in high-resolution audio at higher sample rates. Additional advancements include the use of 4-conductor cable for better signal separation, ergonomic earpads for long-term comfort, and the option of adding cables engineered by Kimber Kable.

The headphones come with a carrying pouch as well as a detachable Android/iOS smartphone in-line remote control cable with electret condenser microphone and multi-function button for answering calls and navigating media on your smartphone. You can even customize the functionality of the remote using the SmartKey app available from the Google Play and App Store.

    Sony MDR1A reviews

MDR-1A Premium Hi-Res Stereo Headphones (Black) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Headphones I use the Sony MDR-1A with my macbook pro and iphone, mostly playing spotify.I tried out several pairs of headphones in person at B&H and the salesman recommended these ones to me. After comparing with many other pairs in store with the same or similar songs I could not find a more accurate or powerful sounding set. They really blew me away compared to other pairs, even Sony's $ dollar pair in the same product line did not come close to the response I was getting with the MDR-1A. Songs sound loud and full, and the bass is incredible, I never bring the volume level past 50 percent while using these and they still sound great.i really can't think of any drawbacks to them, they are comfortable and sound great.I highly recommend these headphones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again without hesitation. Awesome sound!! Tight controlled bass, rich midrange and crisp, detailed non fatiguing highs. Super comfortable to wear for hours at a time. Sounds great when listening through my iPod touch 6th generation. Plays loud, clear and doesn't distort at all when driven to unsafe levels which I wouldn't recommend at all. The finest and most musical headphones for the money. All genres of music sound great. Build quality is top notch and the cables included are robust. Totally satisfied with my experience thus far and I don't anticipate that will change.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Headphones for PMP I am using these headphones on the new Sony hi res Walkman. I tried every pair of headphones in the store that this device would run without a headphone amp. I had previously ran a pair of V Moda M100's. These had more lower bass response. I don't mean they were bassy or boomy. Just a lower pitch and breathed more music than any of the others. Sounded way less compressed and more natural. As a almost 100 percent vinyl listener. The Sony's are the only thing I can listen to without ear fatigue. Very light and comfortable with out me wanting to rip them off my head after an hour!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful sound! I listen to many types of music, mostly classic rock, and these are absolutely wonderful! I also tried the Beats Pro in order to compare the two but the Beats brand had a touch too much built-in bass for my taste. With all that bass, the Beats tended to muddle the different instruments. The Sony MDR-1A retains the clarity beautifully and in a well-balanced manner. The only downside to them is the short cord. So I also bought an inexpensive extension and adapter in order to use them with my home stereo and TV systems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding performance The sound quality is phenomenal. The sound is crisp and clear with little distortion, despite the strong, but not overpowering bass. Voice and mid-tones are clear no matter the subtlness despite the low frequency acoustics. Highs are not harsh and present a great sound without sounding unrealistic. That being said I Am very disappointed with the headphone plug design. The actual speaker enclosures feel like heavy weight plastic and do a great job of preventing outside noise from penetrating, but the headphone plug on the is housed in regular feeling plastic. I would have and do expect more out of Sony's high-end headsets. Although it doesn't seem like there is pressure or force on the plug or wire during normal listening, a quick snag of the wire appears to be more than enough to crack and break the plus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavenly sound My intention was to finally put down a little more then $ for a good set of headphones. I believe I made a great choice with the MDR-1A. The warm sounds and big bass are what I've been looking for. The soft ear cups music in and outside noise out. Worth the money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is an amazing headphone! Wide and dynamic sound stage is amazing. Also, it's really loud despite the big size. iPhone can drive this headphones to more than enough volume easily. I have the HD25 from Sennheiser, but after listening and buying this one, I may sell it. This headphone makes any genre of music more lively and engaging to listen too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Headphones Good headphones that are very comfortable after wearing for 7 hours straight. Problems with the headphones are that the left ear-cup creeks and it is on the expensive side.
