iConnectivity IC-MIDI4-L overview

  • 1Description

Featuring plug-and-play functionality when used with Mac or Windows computers, or iOS devices with Lightning connector, the iConnectMIDI4+ from iConnectivity is designed to serve as a four input, four output MIDI interface with an Ethernet port for networked MIDI capabilities. Supporting the standard 16 channels of MIDI I/O per port over its four 5-pin DIN connectors, this interface allows you to connect your computer or iOS device to multiple MIDI controllers, synthesizers, modules, drum machines and more. It also features one USB Type A and three USB Type B connectors for connecting multiple computing devices at once, allowing for advanced MIDI routing and control between all connected peripherals.

In addition to transmitting MIDI, the iConnectMIDI4+'s Audio passThru technology routes audio via USB as well, appearing as an audio interface to your devices' operating systems. This allows you to route audio between your computing devices digitally, as well as MIDI. This can be used in a multitude of applications, such as sequencing and tracking a synth on your iPad with your host DAW, or you could process a software instrument in your DAW through an effects processing app like an amp simulator on your iPhone.

  • 4 in & 4 out sets of MIDI DIN connectivity
  • Supports 8 additional MIDI devices via USB host port + powered USB hub
  • MultiHost capability - connect 3 computing devices directly & more via network
  • Network connectivity

    iConnectivity IC-MIDI4-L reviews

iConnectMIDI4+ - 4-In/4-Out USB & Lightning iOS MIDI Interface with Ethernet Connectivity is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Review part 2 I have resolved all but one remaining issue with this device that iConnectivity is working on to fix. The remaining problem is that their iConfig app on iOS devices like my iPhone 5S and iPad Air using their Lightning to USB type B cable does not work. They acknowledge it is a problem and are working on resolving it. Having said that, I CAN use their iConfig app on my iOS devices via the Ethernet connection on my LAN just fine - which is actually more convenient and practical anyway. I can also use my Eclipse remote control app on my iOS devices via both Ethernet AND direct connect using their Lightning to USB type B cable just fine too. So the only reason I give it 4 stars versus 5 is that out of the box the Ethernet connectivity doesn't work on my LAN - it required the firmware to be updated to version 1.0.8. The second is the outstanding issue with their iConfig app not working on my iOS devices using their Lightning to USB type B cable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Initial review just out of the box Out of the box I had the following problems: 1. The network connectivity did not work. 2. Using the supplied lightning to USB cable connected to my iPad Air Model A1474 at iOS 10.3.3, and iPhone 5S at iOS 10.3.3 the iConfig app would get a connection failure whenever any function was attempted. 3. MIDI connection to my Eventide Eclipse does not appear to work. 4. There is no pre-printed manual. If you prefer hardcopy like I do you will have to print it yourself. 5. The documentation lacks practical examples of connecting multiple devices and configuring the unit. The first problem was resolved by using the iConnectivity iConfig software on my Macbook Pro connoted by a regular USB cable to upgrade the firmware via the Device pulldown to version 1.0.8. At first I went to iConnectivity's download webpage to get the firmware, but using that method did not work and the latest firmware there was 1.0.7. I should point out that the firmware upgrade process is not very intuitive. Once the firmware was successfully upgraded the ethernet connection worked. By that I mean that it was now showing up on the iConfig device information display with an IP address and other details. Prior to that it wasn't showing anything. Even after the firmware upgrade the iConfig app on the iPad and iPhone fail to function properly using the supplied lightning to USB cable. I am continuing to pursue a resolution to this problem. The MIDI problem with my Eventide Eclipse may be a configuration issue. I am continuing to pursue. Having said all this, if I resolve the issues I'm having I will be very happy with the iConnectMIDI4+ as it will allow me to connect and control multiple MIDI devices (keyboards, sound processors, mixer) from my Mac and iOS devices.
