Designed for storing and working with intensive multimedia files including video, photos, audio, and music libraries, the 5TB G-DRIVE USB G1 USB 3.0 Hard Drive from G-Technology lets you store up to 5TB of your data and transfer it to or from your computer using USB 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen 1) technology. Housed in an aluminum enclosure, the G-DRIVE USB G1 features data transfer rates of up to 165 MB/s and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, both of which allow for quick file access and fast data transfer speeds. The G-DRIVE USB G1 natively supports USB 3.0 and includes a USB 3.0 cable, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

While the G-DRIVE USB G1 is compatible with both Windows 10, 8.1, and 7, and Mac OS 10.9 and later, it comes formatted HFS+ for macOS and supports Apple's Time Machine software, allowing your Mac to be backed up to this drive. To use this drive with Windows, it will need to be reformatted. Also included with the G-DRIVE USB G1 is a power adapter.

HFS+ Driver for Windows by Paragon Install
By installing the HFS+ driver for Windows by Paragon on their Windows 10, 8.1 or 7 system, customers will be able to read/write to their G-Technology HFS+ formatted drive(s) from such PC, in addition to their Mac computer.

G-Technology Format Wizard
By installing the G-Technology Format Wizard, users can reformat their G-Technology HFS+ formatted drive to NTFS to be used with Windows-only systems. Please be aware that reformatting the drive to NTFS will erase all current data on the drive and it will no longer be compatible with macOS. Please be sure to back up all data prior to performing this install.

I'm looking to edit my documentary feature film. I'll be using Windows 10, Premiere Pro CC 2017, USB 3 connection. The footage is 4K DCI. I have about 1.5 TB of footage to edit. Will this hard drive be good considering the information above?

These answers are incorrect, they need to specify data speeds and codecs. USB 3.0 is 99 percent ready for moderate to high end video editing with easy 450 MB/s writes and reads.Resolution is important but not the deciding factor in hard drive performance. If it's any kind of compressed footage go nuts, including 4k prores upto 200 with 2 streams, any raw codecs like red code RAW OR ARRI, or BLACK MAGIC RAWS like Cinema DNG stick with one stream. This is also decided with up and down streams in mind. Also with 30fps or below, of compressed go for UpTo 250 fps cause fps isn't a factor when compressed. Now if u pay for thunderbolt, quote me on, you are just throwing money away. Store your caches on a separate disk or ur solid state main drive if possible. I suggest aquiring basic IT knowledge before randomly saying a drive is not capable.

Will this drive work well using a USB-C adapter to connect it to a 2016 MacBook Pro w/ Touch Bar?

If your MacBook Pro has a Thunderbolt 3 port it should work very well for your data stream to and from the G Drive. Using the adapter should give you USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds or double USB 3.0 speeds. However, the particular G Drive you have must be able to accept the USB-C adapter and then you can plug the adapter into your Mac's Thunderbolt port. Your G Drive's read/write speed if it is the USB 3.0 version like mine will most likely not match the capability of the USB-C's speed. But it will allow the use of the Thunderbolt port but you will most likely still be operating at USB 3 speeds. I am using my G Drive on my new iMac so my drive is plugged into one of my four USB 3 ports.

Why is the 5TB cheaper than the 4TB? Is it an old version? And isn't 165MB/s slow (comparing to the WD Passport 4TB that has Data transfer rates up to 5 Gbps with USB 3.0).

Actual speeds are held back by the max read/write speed of the discs, so 165mb/s is a realistic expectation. 5 Gbps is a theoretical max capable of USB 3.0, but no where near what a hard disc can read/write at.

The power adapter supports 110-240V. It has the standard US plug, but can work in Europe with just the plug converter.

What's the noise level for this product? What's the dB?

I don't have an exact db level. There is a sound but I can hardly hear it. So far I'm quite happy with this drive.
