ZEISS Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 ZM Lens (Black)

BH #ZE3514ZMB • MFR #2112-846
ZEISS Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 ZM Lens (Black)
Key Features
  • Leica M-Mount Lens
  • Aperture Range: f/1.4 to f/16
  • Two Aspherical Elements
  • Three Low Dispersion Elements
Characterized by its speed and sophisticated design, the black Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 ZM from ZEISS is a wide-angle prime for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Balancing the versatile wide focal length is the notably bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, which aids in working in low-light conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field. The Distagon optical design, which helps to reduce distortion, is benefitted by the inclusion of both aspherical and anomalous partial dispersion elements to further suppress spherical and chromatic aberrations for high sharpness and clarity. A floating elements system is also employed to maintain image quality throughout the focusing range, even at the minimum focusing distance of 2.3', and a T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to individual elements to control lens flare and ghosting.

It needs a specific lens hood, which has been available for quite awhile now -- just do a search on Zeiss Lens Hood for 35mm f/1.4 Distagon T* ZM Lens .

question

Ok, this question may sounds stupid but I am so curious. For the same Zeiss Distagon 35mm f1.4 lens, is there any quality difference between E-mount and Leica M-mount?
Asked by: Harry
ZEISS does not offer a 1.4/35 lens for the Sony E-mount cameras. However, your question could also apply to the differences between the Distagon 1.4/35 ZM for M-mount cameras and the new Milvus 1.4/35 for F and EF mount cameras. While the focal length and aperture are the same, the lenses have different optical and mechanical designs. The former does not have an auto-aperture feature and is designed for a shorter flange focal distance, both of which helps to keep the size and weight low. The latter features and auto-aperture (meaning the aperture closes down during the exposure, than opens fully after to keep the viewfinder bright) and is designed for cameras with a longer flange distance. Despite these differences, both lenses are designed to produce high image quality on the cameras for which they were designed.

question

Will this work well with a Sony A7rii?
Asked by: Anonymous
The ZEISS Distagon 1.4/35 ZM is designed for use with M mount cameras and will not mount directly to cameras using other mount systems, such as the Sony cameras using the E mount standard. There are M-mount to E-mount adapters available, though you need to be aware there is no communication between the lens and body, meta data is not transferred, the exposure and aperture control is manual.
