Oben AC-1321 overview

  • 1Description

The AC-1321 Aluminum Tripod with BA-106A Ball Head from Oben is a lightweight (2.9 lb) tripod that provides reliable support for any camera and lens up to 6.6 lb.

The tripod's 3-section aluminum legs and center column extend to a maximum height of 57.5", and when folded, the entire system is a compact 23.4". Flip locks on each leg enable extremely fast deployment and retraction of leg stages. Three leg angles are possible, and pull-tab locks secure the legs in their notches. The legs' angles are independently adjustable to accommodate shooting on uneven terrain. At the widest leg angle, the tripod sits extremely close to the ground to facilitate low-angle shooting. The tripod's feet feature rubber tips which are great for shooting on slippery or hard surfaces.

The tripod's rapid center column extends with a twist of the wingnut locking knob. For protection when it's retracted quickly, there's a rubber damper that protects the center-post collar. Locking screws underneath the collar enable you to fasten the head securely to the chassis. By unscrewing the spring-loaded hook at the bottom end, the center column becomes removable and reversible, for a second method of achieving extremely low-angle shots. The center column's hook holds a counterweight, in case you need additional system stability.

The BA-106A is a simple ball head with one ratcheting locking knob to control all motion. The knob allows you to unlock the ball so that you can quickly orient your camera properly, retighten the knob, and return to shooting. This enables fast setup changes, and frees you to keep a finger on the trigger while you're making a quick adjustment to the head's orientation. The ball head has a 90° notch which facilitates shooting in portrait orientation. A bull's eye bubble level ensures your camera is level on both the horizontal and vertical axes.

The included quick-release plate attaches to your camera via its standard 1/4"-20 screw. With your camera attached to the quick-release plate, it easily snaps and locks into place on the ball head and is quickly removed by pressing the locking lever. A safety lock on the lever prevents your QR plate and camera from accidental release.

This tripod also includes a fitted, padded carry case with a removable shoulder strap, two heavy-duty zippers, and an interior zipper pocket. A tool clip with two hex wrenches for adjusting the center column and the leg joints is also included. It snaps onto any of the tripod legs for easy access.

A spring-loaded counterweight hook is located at the bottom of the center column. The column can be separated into 2 parts to give you a short column for low angle and macro work
Leg cushions on 2 legs provide a firm grip in cold or wet weather
Two included Allen keys attach to a tripod leg, so you're always ready to tighten components
Padded carry bag provides a snug fit for the tripod/head combination and features two heavy-duty zippers, an interior pocket with a zipper, and a shoulder strap
Angle adjustment locks keep legs at the chosen angles
Center column is grooved to prevent rotation
Angled rubber feet for maximum contact with the ground
Tripod features reversible 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screw to fit almost any head

    Oben AC-1321 reviews

AC-1321 Aluminum Tripod with BA-106A Ball Head is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good beginning tripod I would say this is probably the best tripod you can get for under $. It has a really sturdy ball-head and the legs seem very strong. It also has a hook for a counterweight to hold it down for long exposures, time lapses, etc. where being as steady as possible is necessary (I haven't found this in many other cheap tripods). I wouldn't say it's the most lightweight, but it is travel-ready.The only problem I had was that the levels on the tripod head were constructed such that they are actually tilted, so they never have the right reading; but you should always check that your image is level anyway and not rely on it!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tripod for the price I purchased this to replace a well worn no-name tripod I had for many years. They have come a long way since then! This one is 1/3 of the weight, compact and easy to carry thanks to the bag that comes with. You can acheive just about every angle thanks to the ball head. I use this for landscape/ backpacking. The only drawback to the light weight is it can fall over easily if not weigfhted, but it does have a hook for that which is another plus. Definately worth the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very sturdy, compact, and light weight Overall this is a very sturdy tripod that will suffice for 95% of the situations the average photographer will put it through. It is lightweight, compact, and the head locks in place very tightly, ensuring no movement with heavy equipment or wind. The only complaint I can find is the locking mechanisms for the sections of the legs are plastic, and I can foresee these breaking with time and heavy use. For $ this was a great pickup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Entry level tripod I bought this to help with image stabilization because my old point and shoot camera was taking burry photos. So I thought I just had a shaky hand. However, the camera I bought at the same time had very good image stabilization and I didn't need the tripod for most of the pics I take. It is very good for timed delayed pics so I can be in them too. Also it is great for long shutter speed pics to pick up cool motion effects. The tripod is very sturdy and light. It is very easy to set up and use as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny! I needed a tripod for a photography class that I'm taking at my college, and this one was definitely a great choice. It is simple and easy to use, setting it up is super easy, and the levels are extremely helpful in making sure the ball head and tripod legs are both level. The case that is included also allows me to take this tripod to different places for shooting without worrying about it being damaged.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid tripod This Oben tripod is a very good product for the price. It is solid and easily adjustable. The unit remains stable even with the legs fully extended. The 1/4-20 removable quick release mount is a bit finicky to connect and remove the camera but seems to be loosening up with use. I intend to use it mainly in outdoor settings and astrophotography and the construction is such that even a heavy dew or rain will not cause problems with the device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best tripod! This tripod has served me very well for both photography and videography... I use it when taking long exposure images, and when doing videography for interviews and events. It's has been the most versatile tripod I have ever used! If you choose to get it, I know you won't be disappointed!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight & Easy to Use Great for landscapes using cameras & lenses that are relatively lightweight.Pros: -Lightweight-Easy to Use-Easy to carry on a daypack when hiking-Comes with a nice handle bagCons:-Legs cannot lock when stretched-Ball head seems flimsy and doesn't always lock in vertical position
