Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM Overview

Recognizable by its truly thin profile, along with an advanced autofocus motor, the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM from Canon is a 38.4mm-equivalent prime designed for APS-C-format DSLRs. Its optical design features one aspherical element, which helps to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for high sharpness and clarity. A Super Spectra coating has also been applied, which helps to minimize lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity in bright lighting conditions. Additionally, benefitting both photo and video applications, an STM stepping AF motor is used to realize quick, accurate, and near-silent autofocus performance.

Short normal-length prime is designed for use with APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs and provides a 38.4mm equivalent focal length.
Modestly bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light, affords control over depth of field, and helps to keep the overall physical design compact and lightweight.
Pancake form factor measures less than 1"-thick for an ultra-portable, versatile design.
One aspherical element limits distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
An STM stepping AF motor realizes smooth, near-silent autofocus that is complemented by a rear focus system, advanced AF algorithms, and a high-speed CPU for fast AF performance. Additionally, full-time manual focus override is also available.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

question

when will this item be in stock ?
Asked by: Anonymous
Unfortunately, Canon has not yet provided us with a delivery date for the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lens. If you haven't already, you could choose the Notify When in Stock option on the lenss page on our website. We would then send you an email when it came into stock. Otherwise, we are also accepting pre-orders for the lens, which we would fill in the order they were placed.

Is this a good lens for taking small group ...

Is this a good lens for taking small group pictures (2-4 people) at parties? I am looking for an EF-S lens that is good in low light and has a low profile for these types of pictures. My concern is that I might have to get too close to people for this lens to work?
Asked by: David
Since you have a cropped sensor camera, this lens will afford you a 36mm angle of view and so would be ideal for group shots up to 4 people and will be good in low light.

Will this work on a C200?

Will this work on a C200?
Asked by: Eric
I can't see any reason it wouldn't work. I use it when I put my EVA1 on a Ronin-S -- looks great for such a small/light lens design! Should work well with the C200's autofocus mode. With the EVA1 I have someone adjusting focus through the wi-fi app when on the Ronin. (I'm not wild about trying to manually focus with the focus ring on the lens. It's fly-by-wire. So if I'm hand-held and pulling focus myself I'll use the Sigma 24 1.4 instead...)
