Canon Eh-S overview

  • 1Description

Optimized for wide-aperture lenses, specifically in the f/1.8 - 2.8 range, this Eh-S Super Precision Matte Focusing Screen from Canon is designed to obtain sharp points of focus with their EOS 7D Mark II DSLR Camera. It's especially well-suited to situations in which you're manually focusing in dim light with fast lenses, and its fine microlens structure allows for high performance in various scenes.

Areas that are slightly out of focus will appear more so, making it easier to tell when focus is right-on. With lenses that have a maximum aperture smaller than f/2.8, a Super Precision Matte screen will appear dark and grainy. Like all Canon focusing screens, this one is compatible with EOS autofocus systems.

The screen serves as a replacement for the standard screen originally installed. Use the supplied installation tool to place it into the retaining frame inside the camera. Focusing screens are extremely delicate and should be handled with great care. Always use the special installation tool provided. Never touch the screen with your fingers or hold it in your hand, and always keep it away from dirty or abrasive surfaces, as dirt and smudges will be difficult to remove and scratches will be permanent. Dust can be removed with a manual air blower.

    Canon Eh-S reviews

Eh-S Super Precision Matte Focusing Screen for EOS 7D Mark II DSLR Camera is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes a difference for manual focusing While I did not really notice a brightness increase in the viewfinder, this focusing screen did make manual focusing easier. Highly recommended if you are shooting with f 2.8 lenses. Escpecially useful when focusing subjects for portraits. Read the enclosed instructions regarding installation, they include a special tool to eliminate finger prints on the screen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job and is quite easy to change It really allows far better and easier manual focusing. I own a Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II and could hardly focus manually with it. Now i can with this focusing screen and i am pretty satisfied with the results. I wish there was a split screen at the center of it, and this is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Using the tool provided with it to unlock and change the screen without touching it, i found the operation really fast and easy. Takes about 30-60 seconds to make the change...and that's it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great helper for manual focus My vision is about less than average, I have difficulty when using manual focus to produce a sharp picture. After switching to the Eh-S focusing screen, I have to admit the manual focus captures are much sharper. A noticeable improvement over the previous manual focus captures. When using AF, I do not see any distinguishable difference between the Eh-A and the Eh-S. As for me, it is a worthy purchase. I am not planning to switch between both screens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful for Manual Focusing This is a high-quality product by Canon that allows the user to focus manually with much more accuracy than the standard screen included with the 7D Mark II. It's manufactured in Japan and comes with all the necessary instruments to change the factory focusing screen, a process that takes no more than two minutes. If you have high quality fast glass, this is an obligatory extra for your kit. By fast I mean at least F2.8. The best way for me to explain the difference between the matte screen and the standard screen is that with the matte screen every little movement of the manual focus ring on your lens will be very noticeable in the viewfinder. This is great. If feels very intuitive, like on a traditional 35mm film camera. Recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Manual focus seams to work better now When I received my focus screen the plastic box it came in was smashed. I was afraid that the screen was harmed. Fortunately the screen was fine and installed very easily. After installation working my 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens is focusing much better manually. I don’t know if it is really hitting better with autofocus. Seams about the same with autofocus enabled, but manual focus is now easier. If you live in autofocus or live view I don’t know if this screen would really benefit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine it in the dark Using this is nice from the original, maybe its me but the one the camera came with is just as good this one is only a tad more deeper I think. It takes seconds to install and it works. Make sure to never touch the screen with your fingers and always use the tool that came with it. I think it is worth the extra dollars, I still give it 5 stars cause it works.
