Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Overview

Offering long reach with an advanced feature-set and optical design, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO from Olympus is a versatile 80-300mm equivalent telephoto zoom for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. As part of the PRO series of advanced lenses, this zoom distinguishes itself with a bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture for consistent illumination throughout the zoom range to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. Its optical design makes use of a series of aspherical and low dispersion glass elements to suppress chromatic and spherical aberrations for notable sharpness and clarity, and a ZERO coating is also used to reduce flare and ghosting for high contrast, color-accurate imaging.

Complementing the optics, a dual VCM autofocus system offers fast and near-silent focusing performance to suit both stills and movie recording applications. A manual focus clutch permits quick switching between AF and MF, and a programmable L-Fn button avails lens-based control over shooting settings. The lens is also weather-sealed for working in trying conditions, and a removable rotating tripod collar is included for improved balance and support when working atop a tripod or monopod.

Telephoto zoom is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides an 80-300mm equivalent focal length range.
Bright f/2.8 constant maximum aperture suits working in a variety of lighting conditions throughout the zoom range.
One aspherical ED (extra-low dispersion) element, two aspherical elements, one Super ED element, three ED elements, and one HD element are featured within the optical design to minimize both spherical and chromatic aberrations, distortion, and color fringing throughout the zoom range while also contributing to overall image sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy.
A ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
A Dual VCM (voice coil motor) system is used for quick and near-silent autofocus performance. By separating the focusing mechanism into two groups controlled by separate linear AF motors, focus speeds are faster and the friction-free movement is notably quieter to benefit video recording.
Manual focus clutch lets you quickly pull the focusing ring into place for direct, intuitive focus control.
Programmable L-Fn (lens function) button for easily accessible settings adjustment.
Dust-, freeze-, and splash-proof design uses 11 separate seals to ensure the lens's performance in inclement and harsh conditions.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm produces a smooth bokeh quality.
Removable rotating tripod collar offers a stable platform for working with this lens atop a tripod or monopod.
Included lens hood collapses back onto the lens for a more compact profile when stored.
Compatible with the optional M.Zuiko Digital MC-14 1.4x Teleconverter to further extend the reach to a 112-420mm equivalent focal length range.

Very Versatile Lens

Beautiful lens, versatile, used in many weather conditions without issues. Weather sealed, for sure! Love the internal zoom, used it in a pounding rainstorm without worry. I'm fortunate to also own the Olympus 150-400mm pro lens and I find myself using the 40-150mm because I want that wider angle and I can confirm that you get stunning images. Very good wildlife lens when subject is super close, and you want to take an environmental shot. I use this with an OM-1 and AF is blazing fast. Love the manual focusing ring and focus peaking for landscape photos. I like my landscape shots tack sharp from foreground to background. The built-in pull-out lens hood is very convenient for me. I had heard people tend to break them, but so far, I have not had any issues. I got to admit that the landscape pictures I have taken so far have been my best ever. I wish I owned this lens back in Oct 2022 for the autumn color change. Unfortunately, I had to crop the pictures so they can be downloaded on this site, but you can still judge for yourself image quality.

Great, Fast Lens to Fill My Long Lens Needs

I recently upgraded from a Panasonic G85 to the OM-1. I like to shoot nature/wildlife and close up like plants, flowers and insects. Some features I really wanted like Focus Stacking were not possible with any of the lenses I had so I went on a quest to upgrade the glass in my lens line. This M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 was perfect for the mid and long range. It's fast, the clarity is superb and the aperture remains constant throughout the focal range and can focus down to inches when desired. There's a manual/af clutch that's easily used and works smoothly. I really like the L-Fn button on this 40-150 PRO and other PRO lenses. It's now my Focus Stacking function button and, since that setting is in the OM-1 body settings, that configuration carries across my other PRO lenses. A couple of this I really like are the retracting lens hood and the internal zoom. The lens hood fully retracts while remaining on the lens. This makes storage much easier. It does hide the manual focus ring/clutch but I just pull it out to its working mode. The internal zoom means the lens stays the same length throughout the zoom process. This is great for close work. While the 150mm is great for reasonably long work, the lens came with a M.Zuiko MC-20 Teleconverter so now my lens gets pushed to 300mm for even longer work!! With that focal length and the speed of the lens, following and shooting birds in flight is a pleasure.

Love it!

I received this lens a couple of weeks ago and have been running trial photoshoots - bids, grandkids, etc. as much as winter weather allows. The lens is amazingly sharp. and the f/2.8 all through the zoom makes it possibly to get great shots even in poor lighting. It also has the benefit, if you are shooting at full f/2.8 aperture, of blurring out the background nicely, which is a huge benefit for child portraits and bird photos, making the subject leap out of the frame. All photos attached shot in my backyard at 150 mm zoom, through a closed window.

I bought the 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens for an upcoming seascape photography trip. I've used it several times to get to know it before the trip. The images have been crisp and clear and just what I would expect from a PRO lens. The lens is easy to use. I love the fact that it doesn't extend out any further from the camera when zoomed out. So far I am very happy with the lens. This was the first time ordering from B&H. The website was really easy to use. I got the lens when they said I would--which really please me! The lens was packed so well it could have almost been run over and it wouldn't have been damaged. Will definitely use B&H again.
