The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens works very well on the Pen F, as well as the Pen. It is easy to balance the lens using either camera.

It will focus but not Zoom.
That being said, we use this with out studio cameras and they are great.
Stay away from any M43 lens with powered zoom, they're all garbage. (Trust me)

The image stabilization is done in the body of the camera...sensors there... Thus, lenses without internal stabilization may be used with the EM-1.

will the waterproofing of this lens keep it safe while at tidepools from the occasional splash from waves? What about dipping the front element under the surface for a few photos throughout the day.

The weather seals on a camera or lens allows you to use it in the rain or a few splashes from a wave. It is not meant for submersion.
