Machined of aluminum, this Movcam Cage is formfitting to securely hold the Sony a7S. Having the a7S inside the cage protects it from the rigors of professional production while providing extra mounting versatility for grip equipment and accessories. Around the camera's controls the cage has openings for access and visibility and the electronic accessory shoe is also left open for attaching Sony audio accessories. The cage's surface is peppered with 1/4"-20 tapped accessory holes along the sides, the front, the top, and on the included removable top-handle. 3/8"-16 tapped holes can also be found on the top-handle. The top handle has a single 15mm rod clamp for mounting an EVF, a monitor or a recorder. Furthermore, two cold-shoe mounts, one on the top handle, the other on the cage itself, are available for other shoe-mounted accessories. For an added measure of protection, an HDMI cable clamp secures an HDMI cable connected to the camera to prevent damage to the cable and the HDMI port. The bottom of the cage is open around the battery access door and has 1/4"-20 tapped holes for connecting to tripod plates, jibs, stabilizers, or other grip equipment. With the optional riser block and LWS baseplate, the cage will accept 15mm rods for building a full 15mm LWS setup using separately available lens accessories and matte boxes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All around great cage! What I love: - Great build quality - Hugs the a7s body very well. - Built in cord protector for mini HDMI. - Lots of mounting options - Quick release is great. What I don't like: - Cage covers the top dial and buttons including the shutter trigger which makes taking photos and changing modes a little tricky. - Only one screw point on bottom for baseplates so you cant use the pin for extra stable mounting. - If you want to remove the cage for travel or just to shoot low profile, its not too quick and easy to take on and off. Overall I love the cage and love the expansion it offers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great setup for A7s Very happy with this setup for my A7s. I love the multiple hot shoes, which is perfect for using the Sony XLR-K1M Adapter and Microphone Kit. Very solid build and will protect your camera as well. The only down side is that I wish it was faster to build and take down. For the most part, I always keep my camera in this cage, but for certain rigs like a glidecam or movi/ronin it's best to have the camera as light and small as can be so I have to take it out of the cage. I also wish the handle had a quick release rather than having to get out a screw driver to take it off. If I could take off the handle with quick release it would store better in my camera bags.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buy the kit version. I really want to give this a 5 star, but it comes with a major design flaw. The bottom of the cage has an integrated arca-type plate and the screw mounts are located right at the edge of it so that when you try to attach it directly to a standard manfrotto tripod mount or camera rig baseplate, the hole camera tilts forward because it only rests on a tiny rectangular shape instead of the hole bottom area. And it makes the setup very wobbly and unstable. This thing was obviously designed to be used with the kit option, which includes their propritary rod mount adapter. But since there is not image of the bottom part of the cage... well it's very hard to figure out beforehand i guess. It just seams weird to me that they would design a cage this way... The whole point of this thing is to make your setup modular, but because of this feature you have to commit to a particular type of plate. I just wish they would have but some regular tripod threads and a large flat bottom surface so that people can mount it with an arca plate OR anything else. So treat yourself and get the kit option. Or, if you're like me and don't have a ton of money buy something like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1007336-REG/sunwayfoto_dac_02_60mm_quick_release.html Since I added this arca-type quick release to my rig, the camera is rock solid. Otherwise I mean it's a great product. It adds just the right amount of weight and heft to the body. The handle is comfy, everything is where it should be it adds loads of attachement points. Now I leave it on all the time and I just take out the handle and the right portion when I go shoot stills. Would I recomend this: Yes... BUT only if you get either the kit or an arca-type quick release plate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from movcam cage sony a7s im a professional DP and rent and use often, it a tight fit and has great 1/4-20 drill outs in all the right places, the HDMI support is also very good. Nice design. What's not so good is the small base plate surface and lack of plate to hold the camera from twisting when you add a follow focus. I will have to have something manufactured special to fix that..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I used this for the Sony A7s. It fits the camera super well. At first I thought the cage is too tight, but I came to appreciate its compactness. I have its based attached to my camera permanently. The other sides can be removed or attached on if you need them. The whole case came off in 5 parts so configure them any ways you want. The only thing I think it clumsy is the part that secure the micro HDMI to the A7s body. It is too tight and easy to fall off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great cage! This is a great cage for the A7s. Very sturdy, small, 3 cold shoe mounts (one of them on camera), cable holder and you can take the right side off if you want easier access to shutter button for photography. The handle comes off fairly quickly with two hex screws. The only thing I'm still wrestling with is the Arca attachment at the bottom. I would have preferred just a flat surface to attach a Manfrotto style plate. You can still do that but the surface area is fairly small and you can only attach it with one screw, so it can still twist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great option Well designed with the exception of how it mounts to the camera. If you are using a follow focus, the camera will torque side to side without a second stabilization point. Also the screws strip somewhat easily. Great overall design though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from But This Cage Simply put, you can not get a better cage for the A7s. I'm currently running a Zoom H6, NTG-2, and Sennheiser 112p-G3 all mounted on top of the cage, and it works beautifully. If you own an A7s, do yourself a favor and buy this cage now.
