Polaroid PLPSLED Overview

  • 1Description

While it looks like a 20 x 20" briefcase or piece of luggage and weighs only 6.0 pounds, the Pro Table Top Photo Studio Kit is actually a traveling mini studio for small product and tabletop photography. The outside of the 20 x 20" nylon case has 4 pockets containing two daylight-balanced 58-LED flood lights with diffusers and two 18" stands that fold down to 12" to fit in the case.

The kit's 2-section 17" "tripod" is really a monopod with a folding U-shaped base that's topped with a swiveling head for your camera.

The real surprise comes when you fully open the now empty case and it morphs into a 20" cube-like tent with an open front and translucent sides and top. To spark your creativity, red, white, black and royal blue cloth backdrop sweeps that attach with touch fasteners are included. Just position the lights on either side of the tent and you're ready to shoot. Pushing the lights close to the material gives you a more contrasted look while pulling them back yields maximum softness.

Since it literally takes a minute to set up or break down, the Pro Tabletop Studio makes it easy for you to be on your way to photographing the next item while others are still fumbling with their equipment.

    Polaroid PLPSLED Reviews

Pro Table Top Photo Studio Kit is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for the price I use the setup to process product photos and it gets the job done for what you pay for, but there's definitely room for improvement. I have to use the white backdrop and it attracts every ounce of dust and lint in the room, so it's pretty difficult to keep clean. Also, I've found that there is now a reddish pink hue cast onto white items which is problematic for my needs. If you're just using this to photograph items to sell on ebay etc., this will meet your needs. It doesn't assemble neatly because it is held together by velcro and the carrying case is attached to the back, which makes it tip and very flimsy and there are gaps which let in light which defeats the entire purpose of the filters because the velcro isn't strong enough to keep closed

Rated 3 out of 5 by from you get what you pay for For the price, it does mostly what it's supposed to. As mentioned earlier, there is a bit of light leakage because of the velcro but it's serviceable. It's a consumer product and it's good enough for 90% of my work. My biggest gripe is quality control of Polaroid. After unpacking the set, one of the LED bulbs was DOA and a pocket on the case was stitched poorly, rendering it useless. Luckily, my client had a light that we could use and the session wasn't a total wash. (no pun intended)The packaging was poor as well. There was nothing to really secure the contents from rattling around in the box. I realize LED bulbs are supposed to be robust but they're not indestructible, case in point. Would I recommend this? If you were on a budget and a hobbiest that makes a little dough on the side doing product photography, it's not a bad deal. Grab some better bulbs with the money you save.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I needed Sttraightforward to set up, the could be a little brighter, but I moved them closer to the front and lit from the front. Worked well for what I intended to use it for - taking pictures of my custom pens. Good quality, everything worked right from the box, quick shipping as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for beginners This product provides an excellent platform for a novice photographer. The equipment is high quality. However, as a novice, it would have been helpful if at least minimal instruction had been provided to assemble the various components. I had to waste about a 1/2 hour figuring out how the pieces went together.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from NEAT LITTLE SET UP Like I said it's a nice little setup for me to practice experimenting with lighting and shooting small macro items. My only complaints, one of which is minor, I have the LED lights and you can't pack those to easy in the bag. I put those in the slots where the straps are and that seems to keep them steady. My other complaint is that the little tripod isn't sturdy enough to hold my T3i with a regular 18-55mm lens on it. Otherwise it's nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Improves the pictures taken. I bought the Polaroid Light Tent to improve the pictures I take of pens I make and other small lathe turned items. It is adequate for that purpose although the lights are a bit weak for lighting the objects through the side fabrics. The instructions for the light tent are inadequate for assembly, but I finally figured out which way is up. The background fabrics are good but arrived extremely wrinkled and needed ironing. I wish a grey cloth would have been included. Now I'll have to purchase an additional one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome... I am extremely happy with purchase. Item arrived on time and as advertised, I'm an amateur photographer and this is perfect for me. Fits perfectly on my table and then folds up nicely to be stored away, lights are strong and bright enough, and the different background colors allow me to experiment and play. Recommend to any amateur or professional photographer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Kit for Reasonable Price Great compact kit for me to photograph my jewelry for online sales. Like that it is small enough to fit on a small table or larger chair, can set up almost anywhere to take photos of small items. I can move it to various locations in my home. The lights that come with the set are very good quality.
