Great for on camera use. It's small, light and much more powerful than the built in flashes.

I have used this flash on my Nikon DLSR's and mirrorless cameras. Basically, I use this unit whenever I don't want to carry my Nikon SB-5000's or my SB-700's. Great flash for general photography and event photography. This was a great purchase.

Perfect price/performance balance!

I rarely need flash equipment however I was asked to do an indoor shoot. Realizing that it required one of the Speedlight models I purchased the SB-500 for its mid-range price and great reviews. Not requiring the top-shelf model and needing more features than the basic flash, the SB-500 fit the bill perfectly and performed just as I expected on my P-950.

Exactly what I was looking for....

Fairly new to using tis style of flash but didn't take long to learn how to use it. Will use it on my Nikon Z5 Camera. Easy to use and with the ability to use the bounce flash I can finally knock out the dark areas of some indoor pictures. The camera and flash work well with automatic settings adjustments. Love the light for shooting movies and knock out shadows. Fantastic buy!

This is a great little compact unit. If you just need something to use as a fill flash or to trigger other units this works great. Even in a large room when used to bounce off the ceiling you will get great results. I use mine on my Nikon D850 and it's easy to set up the flash using the camera's menu. I wanted something small to use with D850 and this unit fills the bill.

question

Can the Nikon SB-500 AF Speedlight work with using Yongnuo RF603 II wireless flash trigger? I am using a Nikon D50 for a camera body.
Asked by: Helen
Unfortunately, your Nikon D50 body is not compatible with the Yongnuo RF-603N II Wireless Flash Trigger Kit for Nikon DC2 Connection due to the lack of DC2 connector on the D50. Therefore, you could not trigger the Nikon SB-500 Speedlight with the Yongnuo trigger.
