Nikon MB-D16 Reviews

Adds functionality

I trust Nikon's own-brand accessories. When the battery grip came on sale at B&H I decided it was time to try it out on my D750. It functions well and brings ease to shooting in portrait orientation. The overall weight increases significantly but the camera feels balanced when using lenses such as the 70-200 f2.8

It's nice to have the extra battery, control wheels and vertical grip. Attaches easily and firmly. The best part is B&Hs new price which makes it very affordable

I love the way this powerpack balances the camera in my hands. I'm a small person, but the slight increase in weight is worth it It isn't a "must have," item, as the camera functions well without it, but it's definitely a "big want."

Nikon quality for my Nikon D75

I actually own a 3rd party battery grip which works but when the Nikon brand went on sale at B&H I had to step up and make the purchase. Upon receiving the item I immediately noticed the quantity difference from my 3rd party grip. The Nikon grip is much heavier and built with Nikon quantity. Not sure I would ever pay full price, but being on sale I just had to check it out and glad I did. Can't wait for the battery grip for the Nikon D850 to go on sale. The price for that Nikon battery grip is substantially higher to make it shoot at 9 frames per second. Needs a different battery and battery adapter to make it 9 fps so I'll wait for a sale price. Hint, hint)

Built to last

Have bought a few 3rd party battery grips for my Nikon D750 mainly because of the price for the Nikon brand grips. When I see this on sale for a great low price I had to see for myself who was right, the diehard must have Nikon brand users or the save money 3rd party users. My verdict. Although I wouldn't fork out the over $300 price, buying the Nikon grip on sale I finally see why some say the price is worth it for the quality. Built better, heavier and you can just feel the quality. Again, the non-sale price was to much for me, but I'll be keeping an eye out for the Nikon brand grip for the D850 to go on sale.

Not sorry I bought this for my D750... I have LARGE hands and always wanted a grip It is very useful for vertical shots and adds slight weight to body I am 125% on the view that Nikon genuine is best and there is NO looseness in connections.... it feels like the camera is what I am trying to say built to the same standard as the body including rubbers etc This is excellent and I am extremely happy I've made the decision to go Nikon as opposed to third party etc And now when on vacations or out for the day will have more than enough power for plenty of shots. Bought mine 9+ and looks as though was opened, and USED stickers applied.... B&H is the BEST reseller I've come across.... and if you need to call... they give 100% the best customer service Nikon is 125% quality

The battery grip was received as scheduled with good packaging. I did not get a chance to use this grip until today. It mounted on my D750 with no problems and functioned as expected. The sale price made this a great buy. B & H is the first place I check for any photo related items. I still use my D200 with it's accessory grip. Makes taking vertical format pictures a lot easier.

what does coming soon mean?
Asked by: Bob D.
I'm not sure, but it's out. I have one. It did take a long time to get one as they seemed to be out of stock all the time. Maybe that's what they mean by coming soon.

I'm considering getting this to do longer night time lapses of the stars. Does the camera automatically jump to the external battery when the internal battery is drained, or do you need to switch between batteries manually?
Asked by: Maren
Nikon MB-D16 Multi Battery Power Pack will switch the battery automatically. You can also pre set the option to use the external battery first, which allow you to switch the battery inside the grip while the internal battery is powering the camera.

Nikon is permitting us to accept pre-orders on the grip currently, however they have not indicated when we can expect them to start shipping. Once they provide us with an updated expected delivery date, we will then post that information on this product link.

question

Does the MB-D16 increase the FPS in the D750 Camera?
Asked by: JG K.
No, it does not. The D750's frame rate is limited to the mechanics of the shutter/mirror, and is set to a max of 6.5fps with or without the grip.

question

Why is it so expensive?
Asked by: chris b.
Nikon's MB-D16 housing is magnesium alloy. All the knock-offs/copies are plastic. There is also a noticeable difference in the feel of the controls on the Nikon grip vs the knock-off brands, but the difference might not be apparent if you don't have a Nikon on hand to compare. Several knock-offs I have tried seemed to work OK, (except one that drained the battery even when the camera was off), but I would bet on Nikon for durability. I own two MB-D16 grips on two cameras that I have used almost daily for years in rough environments. Never had a single problem.
