Designed for storing and working with intensive multimedia files including video, photos, audio, and music libraries, the 2TB G-DRIVE G1 USB 3.0 Hard Drive from G-Technology lets you store up to 2TB of your data and transfer it to or from your computer using USB 3.0 technology. Housed in an aluminum enclosure, the G-DRIVE G1 features data transfer rates up to 165 MB/s and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, both of which allow for quick file access and fast data transfer speeds. The G-DRIVE G1 natively supports USB 3.0 and includes a USB 3.0 cable, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

While the G-DRIVE G1 is compatible with both Windows and Mac, it comes formatted for Mac OS and supports Apple's Time Machine software, allowing your Mac to be backed up to this drive. To use this drive with Windows, it will need to be reformatted. Also included with the G-DRIVE G1 is a power adapter.

    2TB G-DRIVE G1 USB 3.0 Hard Drive is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Hard Drive of Choice This is the tenth G-drive I've purchased in the past year. Two are for portable travel for film production, six are part of a large array for backing up audio and video, and one is for Time Machine back ups. Virtually all of these replace a slew of other brand dextral drives that have both aged out, but also are old technology. I chose G-Drive with USB3 to be my primary back-up systems because of their dependability. The newest G-Drive, a 2 TB model, is for a general back up of a brand new MacBook Pro. Having had a few failures of other major brand name external drives, I was extremely selective this go around on who I could trust my data, video and audio to. G-Drive won hands down. TB for TB they are a great value. Not as fan of the ones with Gobbler software though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most Happy with my 3rd. G-Technology Drive This is the third G-Technology Drive I've purchased. I use one as a backup drive for my desktop computer, one to back-up my photo collection and I just bought a new one to back up my wife's new iMac. Solid reliable drives that work great with Apple's Time Machine with no formatting required. And I've had no technical problems with the drives since I bought my first one over 3 years ago!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Drive with a couple of drawbacks I've only been using this drive for 2 weeks now and it seems to be working fine. The things that I don't care for are: it's noisy and I don't care for the big flashing G on the front. The price was good for what I needed and it is compatible with Time Machine; other drives I've tried were not, so that's good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A heavy chunker I did not intend to get this big heavy thing. I wasn't paying enough attention, I guess. If weight is related to function, it will work out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast, plays well with iMac used for audio Use as a supplement to my digital memory in my Retina iMac.I like that it actually does go sleep. I use it to store my large audio.video & photo data. Current Projects I work off the the internal (fast) Like the Big G that lights up show disk activity. Happy with the drive so far.I will still be getting that Never to Be Released Sonnet Echo thunderbolt dock/hub w/ the DVD burner ( I have to access old client data I need a optical !)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very satisfied with this Hard Drive. I use this drive as an off-site storage backup of my picture and movie files from my Mac. I have previously purchased a 4TB G-Drive which is my active location for my picture files when my internal hard drive reached capacity. This 2TB (extra) hard drive works perfectly for my desire to back up my primary picture files and store off site for security against theft, fire, flood, etc., and I'm not comfortable with the cloud.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive Right Out of the Box Used to store photos, this drive is attached via USB to a Macbook Pro 2008 vintage. Just received and set it up, so I cannot yet vouch for its reliability. However, it looks like a really well made piece of equipment and it is good looking also. It set up quickly and easily and it was a cinch to transfer files from Time Machine. This drive is replacing a drive that failed from which info could not be reclaimed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Quality, a little noisy I bought this drive to be my Time Machine backup as well as to store audio samples for music production. Build quality is solid, and connectivity was totally plug and play. I was able to partition the drive with no issues. The drive is a little noisy when spinning. The data transfer rate may be too slow for my application (reading audio samples in real time), but I trust it meets the manufacturer's spec.
