The Blackmagic Design DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G is an 8-lane PCIe Gen2 digital cinema capture and playback card with two multi-rate 12G-SDI inputs and outputs that accept resolutions from SD up to DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) at 60 fps. The card supports 10-bit YUV and 8-, 10-, and 12-bit RGB color, as well as up/down/cross conversions and 3D stereoscopic output at full bandwidth 4:4:4:4 RGB. The DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G features a mezzanine card design that has 4K HDMI input and output connectors on a second daughter card, along with connections for adding two optional optical fiber modules for Dual Link optical fiber SDI input and output. The card also supports AES/EBU balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs/outputs, analog video I/O, reference input, and RS-422 control via an included breakout cable.

Flexible Format Support

The card offers flexible format and system support, letting you work with compressed video formats such as ProRes and DNxHD, as well as 12-bit 4:4:4 uncompressed video. When working with uncompressed video, all images are pixel-for-pixel identical to the source, without any generational loss. This lets you get sharper keying with green screens, cleaner compositions, superior color correction, and more. Support for common file formats provides ready-to-edit files for use in popular editing, effects, and design software applications. DeckLink Studio 4K is compatible with Mac-, Windows-, and Linux-based workstations.

Optical Fiber Connections

Two optical fiber connections on the daughter card support optional optical fiber modules for Dual Link optical fiber SDI input and output. SMPTE compatible optical modules can be added for up to 12G-SDI speeds, allowing you to choose to connect equipment using optical fiber connections instead of regular BNC copper cables for much longer cable runs, even at 12 Gb/s speeds.

Key Features

  • 8-Lane PCIe Gen2 I/O card compatible with Mac-, Windows-, and Linux-based workstations and servers

Can the 4k Extreme 12G downscale a full 4k DCI ...

Can the 4k Extreme 12G downscale a full 4k DCI frame to 1080p (to feed to an HD reference monitor)? I currently have their Miniconverter and that only does 4k DCI to 2k DCI and then crops off the sides of the 2K DCI image to display it at 1080p. Does this do the same and crop off the sides when going from 4k DCI to 1080p? Or will it give you the full width of the 4K DCI frame on a 1080p screen?
Asked by: Mark
No, the DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G card can only down convert 4K UHD to 1080p HD and output a full image. It does not support 4K DCI to 1080p HD downconvert.

question

Hi, which SDI Cable Can I use to output 4K video? Because I was not able to find a 12G SDI Cable.
Asked by: Anonymous
As long as the two devices you are connecting are 12G, you can use any SDI cable. While you should consider build quality of the cable for your set up, just know any SDI cable will do the job.

Does the dual SDI I/0 12G in this unit support Dolby Vision HDR Dynamic Metadata in Davinci Resolve via iCMU?
Asked by: Willian
BMD PRODUCT SPECIALIST: accordingly to BMD card specifications, it supports 3D stereos output, —single/dual— which is part of the requirement for sending Dolby Vision dynamic metadata via SDI out from Davinci Resolve Studio. One SDI is used for the video signal and the second one is for PQ metadata content. Taking your response into consideration, the card doesn't support dynamic metadata via SDI out. Could you please clarify this? BMD's card Specifications: Advanced digital cinema capture card featuring full frame DCI 4K inSDI put and output $895 via 12G‐SDI! You get dual link multi rate 12G‐SDI connections that work with SD, HD and Ultra HD even in Ultra HD 60p, as well as full frame DCI 4K at 4096 x 2160 resolution up to 25p! Capture 10‐bit YUV or full color bandwidth 12-bit RGB. Includes AES/EBU audio, up, down and cross conversion, plus built in 3D stereoscopic output at full bandwidth 4:4:4:4 RGB! No other capture and playback card supports more video formats and video connections!
