Leica 11683 overview

  • 1Description

Compact for its short telephoto focal length, the silver Summarit-M 75mm f/2.4 from Leica is a portrait-length lens for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Utilizing a double Gauss optical design, the six elements in four groups design features both anomalous partial dispersion and high refractive index elements to control a chromatic aberrations, color fringing, and field curvature for a high degree of clarity and color accuracy. Its manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away, and included with the lens is a screw-on lens hood to shield the front element and prevent lens flare and ghosting.

Double Gauss optical design uses six elements in four groups, including four anomalous partial dispersion glass elements, two of which also have high refractive indexes, to suppress chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and reduced distortion.
Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3' away with a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:7.2.
Eleven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth bokeh quality to suit selective focus and shallow depth of field imagery.
Screw-on lens hood is included and the lens also has front filter threads to accept 46mm filters.

    Leica 11683 reviews

    Summarit-M 75mm f/2.4 Lens (Silver) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great 75 mm I just got this lens and used it in Africa. It is not inconspicous particularly the silver version. Keep in min that adding the lens-hood, which one should, doubles the length of the lens. This lens is super sharp and as a tele allows you to capture detail at full resolution that a 50 mm just cannot. But you have to know how to use it. At 2.4 the depth of field is razor-thin. I only used it for landscape (infinity) or in very controlled situations, if possible with a tripod. This is the opposite of theLeica way, where you set you < 35mm mm cron or lux to wide open and the lens will do its magic. Don't use a 75mm that way. For the 75mm magic sets in outdoors at f5.6 and larger. Then it behaves like a super 50 mm and is ready for street. For someone, who is shy like me, it allowed me to take amazing shots -- and of course portraits. A portrait taken with 75mm will always look prettier than 55 mm. That is the property of tele compression.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Summarit-M 75mm f/2.4 pairs perfectly with the M (TYP262) I began with one lens, the super Summarit-M 50mm f2/4 to go with my M (TYP262), and have begun to review lens options to add for wider and telephoto images. I went with the superb Summarit-M 75mm f/2.4 for the compact size, relatively affordable price, and the new Summarit-M f/2.4 redesign, lens hood and latest compatibility with digital M cameras. The image quality is very impressive, with great color and contrast. The lens is simple to focus tack sharp. it is a great step up in the telephone direction when expanding from a 35mm or 50mm. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super with Sony A7r If you are looking for the best manual focus lens between 55 - 90 mm for your A7x, this is the ultimatum choice. Razor sharp, nice bokeh for portraits. Equally great for landscape. Small, light. Better resolving power than Apo 75 (see Sean Reid test). Easy to focus. Nice & small combo with Sony Zeiss Fe 35 2.8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Mid-Length Telephoto Lens from Leica I had previously owned a Leica Summarit-M 35mm F2.5 lens so I was already familiar with the Summarit products as Leica's budget line. When Leica announced a refresh of the Summarit line-up, I paid attention. I had been wanting to get a good-quality portrait / nature lens for my Leica camera, but the Summicron 75mm and 90mm lenses were way beyond my budget. Almost all the things I read online about the new Summarit 75mm lens were positive. Some reviewers even said the performance of this lens was virtually the same as the Summicron, but for a lot less money. In addition to a mildly modified lens formula, the lens now includes a machined-aluminum hood, which used to be an accessory. From my experience the hood is rarely needed -- this lens is already very resistant to flare. But the hood looks cool, and it's good of Leica to include it with the lens as a package. The out-of-focus area or 'bokeh' of this lens is wonderful. It's everything a good portrait lens should be: sharp at the plane of focus with backgrounds that melt into a liquid neutrality. The Summarit is also not too sharp, which is a comment I have read about the Summicron 75mm. The Summarit has more than enough resolution for an enthusiast like myself. One more thing to mention is the build quality. Typical of Leica, the Summarit 75/2.4 just feels right. Everything about it oozes a high standard of manufacturing. It's a beautifully-crafted lens. Compared to the mostly-plastic offerings of other camera lines, this lens shouts old-world quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenging and rewarding I recently purchased this lens to use on my Monochrom M. I have primarily been a 50mm user but decided I wanted something a little longer for street photography. I am a bit reluctant about drawing peoples attention when street shooting so I thought the slightly longer reach of 75mm would help me to get the shoot without being noticed. I also wanted to see if I could narrow my street and travel kit to just a 35 and a 75. The Summarit has to me the perfect balance in several ways. Good price, not too big and not too heavy. It feels solid and well made. The rubber focusing ring works for me and does not take away from the overall impression of quality. The challenge. This lens has a very narrow depth of field and short focus throw. If you plan on shooting wide open then some practice will be in order because the DOF is razor thin. I tried using a 1.4 magnifier but achieved better results without it. Some people have complained that the 75 viewfinder guidelines are difficult to see but I did not have that issue with some practice. The reward. If you hit focus the results are very pleasing. This lens is sharp especially when coupled with the resolution of a Monochrom and the bokeh is pleasing. The compression that a short telephoto lens provides also adds to the image for me. I am very satisfied with this lens. I have to be more meticulous in my focus habits to get the shot but he results have been worth it. For me, the 75mm Summarit has added a whole new dimension to street shooting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mid-Grade Performance, High-Grade Price This is an update to a review of this lens that I wrote previously. Ultimately I returned this lens to B&H. I liked the Summarit-75/2.4 a lot, but not enough to justify the cost. Pros: o compact size, relatively light o excellent build quality o very good image quality o pleasant background rendering Cons: o lens barrel moves with focus, making it succeptable to dust over time o focusing with 75mm is challenging on a rangefinder o center of image not as sharp as I'd like o price-to-performance ratio is so-so

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fantastic "bargain" Leica lens! I read the reviews, and wondered if my experience would measure up. Well, yes, it did and I am very happy with my decision. The lens is critically sharp, and that is something that I value. I haven't had a chance to evaluate corner sharpness and all that, but so far, this lens has lived up to the high standards Leica always presents.
