Interfit STR179 overview

  • 1Description

Useful for modifying the light from an on-camera shoe-mounted flash unit, the 31 x 31" Interfit Strobies S-Type Speedlight Bracket and Softbox Kit provides users with a diffuse option as well as the capability to add other accessories via the S-type mount. The bracket clamps directly to flash heads up to 2.2 x 3.1" in size and leaves the body free to move around for easily positioning your sensors. The top clamp features a concave design for compatibility with the Pro-flash One-Eighty and other bare-bulb flashes. Also, the unit has a built-in umbrella mount for 8mm shafts and can be placed on a standard 5/8" stand.

The softbox will greatly diffuse the light from your flash and it has a silver interior for sharper contrast. The two diffusers are also removable for more lighting options. Additionally, a nylon carrying bag is included.

    Interfit STR179 reviews

Strobies S-Type Speedlight Bracket and Softbox Kit (31 x 31") is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor design We have another 24 softbox for use with shoe mounted flash devices. We really liked it and wanted to get one that was slightly larger so we had 2 softboxes and thought this would be a good one. Unfortunately, whether this unit was simply defective or it was poor design (which is my assessment) the unit does not stay taunt so the inner and outer baffles had folds and rolls which could affect light dispersion and it seemed to always wanting to close on its own. Part of this seemed to be as result of the double folding concept - first collapsed on itself and then rolled to fit into a small carrying case. Just really didn't work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice box for the money and works great with Speedlite This soft box is very nice for the money. It is very easy to use. The mounting bracket allows you to mount the speedlite without the need for any additional brackets. It leaves the body of the speedlite free so that you can turn the speedlite body to allow direct line of sight if you are using optical control. By only minor complaint (and why I dinged it one star) is the way you have to twist it to fold it for storage, like some of those round car windshield shades. I always struggle with getting the twist just right and find myself fumbling with it for several minutes to get it stored. Oh, and the storage pouch isn't very sturdy. Other that that, it's a great product and so far I'm very happy. I will probably buy another 31 Strobe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great budget large softbox for speed lights I use the softbox for both product photography and people photography. I use it with a Nikon SB-700 speed light. For the price, the Strobies 31 softbox really can't be beat. It provides nice, diffuse, directional light. It's a snap to set up and just as easy to take down. Some reviewers have pointed out that it won't stay open. I haven't encountered this problem. I have, though, seen that the edges do bow inward a little bit at first, but after a little coaxing by hand, there is negligible inward bowing and the face of the softbox retains a square shape. Another reviewer mentioned that the outside diffusion screen doesn't get all the way flat. I've noticed this, too, but to be honest, and that the because of the uneven surface, may cause inconsistent light brightness across the area of the softbox. While this may be true, I doubt that any such light variation would be significant enough to adversely affect lighting quality for the majority of uses. I, personally, have not found it to be a problem. Also, it is possible to make the front panel more taught simply by alleviating the inward bowing of the sides and also affixing the panel to the velcro attachments more toward the front of the box. The S-type speed light bracket works as advertised, but I do have some concerns that continued clamping down upon on head of my speedlight may deform the speedlight housing. I try to screw down the clamp as much as I need to in order to hold the speed light securely, and no more. I've noticed a little creakiness in the casing of the speedlight I use with this bracket, but I'm not sure if it is due to the clamp. In any case, the bracket, when properly tightened, does grip the speedlight securely (the inside of the vise is a non-slip rubber-like material). One thing to mention is that there is a little bit of sag due to the way that softbox mounts to the bracket, which is basically just friction. In my clumsiness, I did once knock the softbox off the bracket by bumping into it like a bull in a china shop. Only the softbox hit the ground. The stand didn't get knocked over. Maybe this is a good thing? I would rather the softbox alone fall to the ground rather than my speedlight along with it! All in all, if you're looking for a budget 31 softbox to use with your speedlights, I wholeheartedly recommend this one. You will love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome box this is by far the best box for the money. If you want to get your flash off your camera, and keep it portable this is the box you need. With this and my Nikon 910, and 700 flash heads, I have been able to open up a whole new world of out of the studio photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect beginner/hobbyist soft box kit. This Soft box kit is not professional quality. However, I would rate the quality slightly above what I paid. No complaints thus far. It's a perfect fit for the beginner or hobbyist photographer. I like it, and I would recommend it to any one who falls in the categories mentioned above.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Good to start out. Easy of setup and put away. Nice diffused light. Only issue is the velcro that attaches attaches to almost anything it touches.
