What will be the basic set to go for? A full, a 1/2 and a Mini full?
Asked by: E.Christian
A full set is considered one of each size, 1-Full, 1-Half, 1-Quarter, 1-Eighth. People really purchase apple boxes for there particular needs, there really is not a standard. If you are using them on a set or while shooting at a location its always good to have four of each top raise up furniture, one for each corner/leg. If you are a stills photographer 2-Fulls and 2-Half Apples are great to raise up your subject. Really depends on your needs.

The Apple Boxes come unfinished. They are sanded smooth so you can leave as is, paint or in my case i used Linseed Oil.

question

Can these be used for the Dana Dolly? At what height would be recommended?
Asked by: Matt P.
Hi Matt. Normaly doing things under the camera is another department, another profession. But when you'll use it, you should use bar clamps if you want to add / stack the boxes. It can be a slippery business sometimes. Make sure that nothing can move sidewards by accident. Dirt, dampness can act like lubrication. The weight will never be a problem, the boxes can hold easily a magnum dolly carrying to person. Safety first, you should think and always have wooden wedges with you. Have educated and experienced crew members around you, if possible. You would need a lot of the big boxes to support your Dana dolly on both sides, wouldn't you? I personally would go to a meter hight with no problems, like I said, using clamps to make it solid. Instead think about using a ladder on both sides, or a kind of foldable platforms. I hope I could answer your question to your satisfaction. Good luck for all your shooting situations.
