    Dell AC511 reviews

AC511 USB Soundbar is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Limited use cases This audio bar uses USB to both power the speakers AND control the audio playback. When connected to a Dell monitor, it uses one of the USB ports on the back and the speaker appears as a new audio device on your computer, but only if you ALSO plug in a USB cable in addition to a video cable. There were no drivers necessary to get this working for me in OSX. I tried hooking up a Kindle Fire Stick (via HDMI) to my monitor, and no audio worked. Because the monitor only acts as a USB hub and can't translate the HDMI audio signal to something the sound bar understands, you're left without any solution for audio. There's a lot of random noise coming through the speaker that I believe is the result of nearby cell phones - there is occasional humming and clicking noises from a poorly-shielded speaker when a cell phone is nearby.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to my Dell U2515 display I bought this on a whim to go with the Dell U2515 25 display I was purchasing at the time. I was using the display on 2011 MacBook Pro that I have and the sound quality isn't that great when the laptop is shut. The primary purpose of the monitor was for photography and I hadn't thought about sound until this was a suggested addon. I'm glad I got it as it was fairly inexpensive and it dramatically improves any audio that I do need (mostly YouTube, Netflix, etc). The only downside was that it consumes a USB port rather than the audio jack; this wasn't a major issue since I had an external USB hub already.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Substitute for built-in monitor speakers Bought this with a new U2715H Dell display. I was struggling with whether to buy a monitor with built-in speakers because I don't have available desktop space for dedicated speakers. Ultimately, I decided on the U2715H so this was a necessary add-on. The speakers are fine, and match my expectations for speakers in this price range. Not great, but not bad. If I wanted better, I'd pay more and get dedicated speakers. As it stands, I give these 5 stars because they're easy and fine for the price point. Note that I added Good Sound Quality to the Pros, and by that, I mean Good Sound Quality for the price. They're not expensive speakers, so I wasn't expecting top-quality sound. But they're fine for watching movies, playing games, etc. two feet in front of the screen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install + works good with my Dell P2715Q Monitor Easy to install, inexpensive and I now have sound ... which is a lot better than no sound at all. Just pull the sticky tabs off the bottom of the monitor, click the sound bar into place, and plug into one of the USB ports on the back of the monitor. I had to manually adjust my Macbook Pro through System Preferences to play nicely with the sound bar and it obeyed. If you're looking for GREAT sound quality, be willing to spend more than $20.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible for multiple inputs It is very glitchy and only works when directly powered thought my laptop (which it controls the volume of directly when connected) I tried using external USB power so I could have sound on it from two of my inputs without moving the cable and it doesn't work. If you use the computer for its power and use another input (the monitor successfully passes sound into its headphone out jack) and then change the volume it adds the computer sound into it. Disaster. The sound quality is better than expected for the size and price if you can get it to work. If this is for a monitor that is only being used by a single tower computer and won't be using multiple inputs it is great. Otherwise run away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from sounds good It is a nice add-on to the Dell monitors, in that it puts out good sound while not taking up any desk space. There seems to be plenty of volume adjustment between the control on the Soundbar and the computer. The only downside is cosmetic, in that there is a lot more USB cable than needed when plugging into a Dell monitor that has the integrated USB hub, with ports on the back-bottom of the monitor.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent Bought a Dell U2415 to use with a macbook pro so I added this on. The bar does not get recognized by the MBP so you need to plug the USB into the laptop instead of the monitor like you would if you were using a PC. This defeats the purpose by messing up your desktop with another USB chord. The sound quality is alright, better than a laptop but not much above that. The lows are muddy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Noisy Bought this to use on one of my two Dell U2414H monitors. It attaches easily, and plugs in via USB for both power and sound. Looks good. Only problem is that when I have headphones plugged in to its headphone port, I hear lots of noises, even when nothing is playing. I wouldn't expect this from a digital connection via USB, so it must the Dell unit making the noises. I wouldn't buy this again, but since it is pretty cheap and I don't want to pay return shipping, I will keep it.
