Kanex Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet + USB 3.1 Gen 1 Adapter is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, USB 3 on my 2011 iMac! I got the last iMac model before USB 3 was added, but it's top of the line otherwise. It didn't bother me too much at the time, because I thought Cheap Thunderbolt Hard drives would quickly follow....2016 I'm still waiting! I had to transfer a video file onto a client's newer iMac with USB 3 and the speed was undeniable. I still have some mileage left on this iMac so I thought I'd give this Kanex adapter a try. Works perfectly. Every USB 3 device I've connected and used for a long period of time stays connected. Editing in FCP X is much smoother with files spanning multiple drives. I did pick up a USB 3, 4 plug hub and the Kanex handles that well too with multiple drives plugged in. Ethernet works great too. Costs too much, but it's worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works. I attached this to the thunderbolt port on my 2011 mac mini, which has usb2 ports, but not usb3. I had also gotten a Dell U2415 which comes with a usb3 pub built in . (The monitor is attached via hdmi.) About the easiest upgrade ever. (By the way. You can install 16 gig of main memory in a 2011 mac mini, all by yourself. Apple does not admit it, but you can.)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ethernet port is CHEAP Was hoping to add some transfer and connection speed to a MacBook Air. Ethernet port was clearly defective, and cheaply made. No audible 'click' when cable was inserted. USB 3.0 port appeared to work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Saves cost in the long run Clunky and expensive for an adapter, but I bought one of these so I don't have to keep buying thunderbolt ready portable video editing hard drives. A bit clunky to carry around yes, but saves on cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from USB 3.0 for MacAir 2012 I had only two USB 2.0 ports on this machine. This adapter allows me to use Usb 3.0 portable drives for backup with greater speed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from solid well built Thunderbolt to USB 3.0 adapter Needed a USB 3.0 port on my 2011 MacBook Pro. The Kanex Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet + USB 3.0 Adapter by Kanex works great.
