Eye Of Mine E2DV100 overview

  • 1Description

The GoPro HERO3/3+/4 Underwater Wired SD Live Video Out Housing from Eye of Mine is pressure tested at depths up to 100' and features a 100' video output cable with RCA male connector. The output cable allows you to send a standard definition 640x480 (4:3) video signal to an external device for recording or monitoring. When outputting the SD signal, the camera functions as it normally does when recording to the microSD card. The housing is compatible with the HERO3, HERO3+, and HERO4, and accepts optional snap-on filters designed for the GoPro Dive Housing.

Note: The GoPro Battery BacPac and LCD screen will NOT work in this housing because the video/power cable uses the same back port. There is no way to control the camera remotely with this housing.

    Eye Of Mine E2DV100 reviews

GoPro HERO3/3+/4 Underwater Wired SD Live Video Out Housing (100') is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice cabled housing I bought this cabled housing to make a drop camera to survey underwater mussel populations. Although there are lots of ready-made drop cams out there, most are very cheap and unreliable. The GoPro platform is very appealing because it is reliable, provides pretty high quality images, and has a really nice wide-angle lens, meaning you can see a reasonably large patch of the bottom with the camera very close to the bottom, which is very important in low visibility water. This cabled housing helps solve the problem of getting real time images back to the surface. The attached photo shows the housing mounted on a simple re-bar pyramidpod frame with two dive lights. I'm using it with a GoPro 3+ camera. The housing works pretty much as advertised. The video output is much lower resolution than the camera is capable of collecting. But the camera can save the higher resolution images while transmitting the lower resolution, so this only matters if you care about getting high resolution in real time (I do not). The transmitted resolution is perfectly adequate for checking what you are recording. I was a bit worried about how the cable would interface to a laptop computer, but the housing comes with a recommendation for a plug in USB video capture device that works great with a laptop running Windows 7. Because I want the high resolution video, I have to stop every couple of hours, open the housing, take out the camera, and download the video. This is mildly inconvenient, especially because you have to wash and dry the housing each time. This particular cable does not carry power to the camera (another one has that option), so I change batteries at the same time. So far everything is working well. But the hinge pin on the camera housing started to rust after only one immersion in salt water, even though I washed everything well afterwards (including submerging the entire unit in freshwater). So I suspect I may have problems somewhere down the line.
