Broncolor 800 S Overview

Providing a 800Ws output in a compact design, the Siros 800 S WiFi/RFS 2.1 Monolight from Broncolor is a reliable studio flash unit with Wi-Fi connectivity and a built-in RFS 2.1 receiver for wireless control and triggering. It has a 9-stop power range which is adjustable in 1/10 or full stop increments for great control over light output. The Siros S is also quite fast with a flash duration from 1/8000 - 1/500second and a recycle time of 0.04 - 2.9 seconds depending on power settings. Additionally, the monolight has a halogen modeling light.

Built into the Siros S is a specialized Speed Mode that speeds up the charging time and flash duration to provide a fast sequence of exposures, up to 50 per second at the fastest setting. Also, the unit has a USB connection for software updates and is fan cooled for temperature control. An integrated reflector and mount are included for adding modifiers to the light.

When the Siros is connected to a Wi-Fi network, each light can be identified by a different-color LED and can be easily controlled using the bronControl app for smartphones and tablets
With the integrated Broncolor RFS 2.1 receiver, users can use the RFS 2.1 transmitter for remote control from the camera
Cut-off technology uses a microprocessor to calculate the flash duration to an output, enabling sequences with up to 50 flashes per second
Enhanced Color Temperature Control technology adapts flash voltage and duration in order to achieve a constant color temperature over the entire variation range
Individual power distribution means the unit has controllers for each lamp in order to have greater control over the flash power range
Speed mode reduces flash duration and charging time while reducing the maximum power in order to achieve a series of rapid exposures without overheating
Single rotary control for flash power output setting, a slight turn provides 1/10 stops while a "Twist" function allows for whole stops
Internal discharge when power is reduced
Grip features double-wall plastic with a special coating for durability and comfort
Aluminum stand adapter can be used with the handle to function as a built-in floor stand
Standard sync port and built-in photocell are available for more elaborate triggering setups
Black aluminum body construction

Good light, not good service/support

In terms of its performance it is a first quality equipment. Power, consistent light out put, short flash duration... first class. Cons: - Heavy (I act cautious when it's attached to my Para 133) - Limited usability and brand support (supports only two known DSLR brands). I cannot use its HS feature with my medium format GFX camera. You stay limited to your camera's sync speed, because there is no compatible RFS trigger. - The Control App is good, but limited to your phone or iPad. I wish I could control the lights while shooting tethered from my computer.

superb design... very efficient. strong building and really speed when i need it . Despite some critic i read before .. umbrella are more for smaller strobs ... what about using it with an APS-C ? people should be more serious.

One Big Problem

So... The lights are built great as a whole. Except one thing that KILLS me! You can't use umbrellas with longer shafts! Wescott 7'? Nope. You only get about 1 foot of distance that you can push the umbrella in. Horrible, horrible design flaw that was overlooked. I may sell my set simply because of this.

Love the Siros lights, we have 4 and run them through the app. We run them almost every day and have had no major problems yet. I will Say is Broncolor is looking at this that they could improve their soft box mount a little. No major problems, it just has some room for improvement

Damaged Goods

Great set of lights, wish they arrived fully in tact. They were backordered over the holidays and when they finally arrived weeks later to my studio it was the height of lockdown and I couldn't inspect them right away. When I reached out to customer service they said bummer, contact broncolor who never responded. In all the reflector, glass casing and connection to the lamp were all damaged. Cost me $$$ and money to replace the glass casing (from Adorama) and still doesn't work like new.

So close to perfection

If I could add a decimal to the star system this beautiful beast would get 4.7 stars. For reference, I’m coming from years using Buff Einsteins which served me well, but to use an automotive analogy, it like going from a Ford station wagon to a high-end Mercedes sedan. Everything about the light exudes quality and of course you’ll pay for that. You can see in the specs they’re heavy, but amazingly well balanced to work with. I’m using them with a Mola beauty dish and Broncolor soft boxes and the light is absolutely gorgeous and consistent. The bronControl app is pretty intuitive and easy to use and most functions like controlling output are instantaneous. SO much better than what I had in the past. The cognition lights in a multiple light setup make adjustments with a app a breeze. The one feature I wish it had, and the reason for the .3 star deduction, is that the modeling lamp can not be set independent of the flash power. It’s either Off, Full, or Proportional. At times working at low settings the modeling lamp brightness is quite dim when set at the proportional setting. It would be nice to be able to bring up the intensity of the lamps while leaving the output down. I hope this this function could be added in a future firmware upgrade, but I knew this feature was lacking going in. (Broncolor, are you listening?) Their Swedish competitor has this ability but the recessed flash tube was a deal breaker. All in all, getting this close to perfection is pretty sweet.

question

Hello all, Does any one know what is needed to achieve successful HSS shooting using a Pentax 645Z with this monolight? Aside from swapping in a longer burning bulb, are there any other required firmware/hardware considerations? Anyone having real world on-location experience using hss this light, please tell what you know.I looked at the Profoto B1 option (lower power; no hss provision for Pentax 645), but prefer the Bron., even if I have to bring my own power on location. Thanks everyone in advance!
Asked by: Teila
At this time there is no system that allows the Pentax 645Z work in HSS.

I Have Grafit powerpack and various J and unilght heads as well as boxlights and pulsospot4. I prefer monobloc heads. Looks like my studio needs will be met nicely by the Siros L 800’s. My question is do these integrate well with the standard powerpack systems of Broncolor like my Grafit and heads? Ie: color temp and output the same? Fast flash duration settings like 1/7000sec t.1? Modifiers all fit same bayonet mounts? iOS app control, is there a way to include my older pack system?
Asked by: Eric
The Broncolor Siros 800 S would have a flash duration of 1/4000 at t.1 and would accept all Pulso/Primo type modifiers. While they can be triggered optically from your current Broncolor pack/head system, you cannot trigger your pack/head system using the bronCONTROL App.

question

Hi, Does anyone know what standard reflector ships with the Siros monoblocs? is it the L40?
Asked by: david
This monolight would ship with an integrated reflector and the L40 reflector is sold separately. The item code for that reflector is BRRL40. Please see the image for that below:

Asked by: James
The Broncolor RFS 2.1 Transceiver, B&H # BRRFS2T, would be a transmitter that may be used with the Leica S3 Medium Format DSLR Camera to wirelessly trigger the lights in the Broncolor Siros 800 S Pro 3-Light Kit.
